As with most Nikon cameras I've had, the 9900 takes excellent pictures and is otherwise a quality product. But as with most Nikon cameras there are a few minor complaints. For one thing, there have been situations in which it simply won't focus - usually at fairly close distances. The subject will snap into focus and then snap right back out. There might be a solution to this, but I haven't found it yet. Also, there is apparently no manual focus option. Another thing is that there is a Wi-Fi button on the back, which I don't use - but I consistently press it accidentally when holding the camera (especially with one hand), which displays a message and prevents you from doing anything else (including taking a picture) until you turn it off. There doesn't seem to be a way to disable it, which I would certainly do if I could. Some people complain about the fragile-looking flash, but if you're careful it shouldn't be a problem.
One last thing - with a camera at this price, it would be nice to have the option of shooting in RAW.
Otherwise I have no complaints with the camera, and can live with these minor deficiencies because the pictures it produces are so good.

Excellent Point and Shoot camera

Great, quality pics for a point and shoot camera. The size is not a problem. A little pricey but considering all the features provided with multiple automatic settings it is worth the cost in the long run--my estimation. When I go on a trip or photo opportunity I like to take lots of pics and then edit for the best view, Nikon's editor is very good but doesn't allow for creative art or text additions in this package.

I picked this up to replace a 10 year old Nikon Digital P&S that was starting to have some problems. I shoot my real estate listings and also shoot family snaps. I spent 10 years as a professional photographer, so I can get pretty picky about images.
After a couple of family trips, I have really enjoyed the camera. I love the swivel screen and haven't had red-eye (yet) with the extendable flash. The zoom range is great... I wish it had a little more wide angle, but I can work with what it has.
Color and image quality are pretty solid for a point and shoot camera, and the controls are pretty easy to figure out. On some of the modes (like backlighting) it takes forever to process the image, so shooting it slow in those modes. Other than that, I have no complaints, especially for price.

I purchased this camera to record a video to upload online. I love that the screen flips for selfie recording, and that flip also protects the screen when the camera is not in use. It is lightweight, has good zoom and takes great pictures. I am a point and shoot kind of user, so this is perfect for me.

Decided to try this Nikon camera after owning a Canon compact camera, that had the display fail on it twice within 4 years; once while under warranty and finally just recently. This Nikon has 30x zoom which I thought I would like, since my Canon was only 20x. However, I'm having trouble getting a good, clear zoomed picture even at less than the max. 30x. I'm experiencing a lot of image shake if I don't use a tripod. Other than this problem (the zoom is one of the main reasons I decided to purchase this camera) the camera takes good non-zoom photos, has WiFi (haven't tried this yet), an adjustable angle display, is easy to use, compact and light weight. It's convenient to carry in my purse on vacation and attending special occasions. I have owned this camera approximately 3 months.

I recently purchased this camera after doing a lot of researching looking for a compact camera with great zoom, and picture quality.. Recently, taken photos and videos with this camera, they came out beautiful. Still trying out the other features, but so far I love the feel of this camera and loving the zoom features, etc. Cannot wait to use the burst feature...

Great camera - the autofocus really zeros in when zooming to 30 x (it does get a little shaky with that max zoom, but the image stabilizer helps with that. The LCD screens flips so that you can see yourself when you are doing a selfie - that was the difference-maker for me in deciding between this and the Canon (which doesn't have the LCD flip screen, but otherwise seemed also like a great camera). Only potential drawback is what seems like a somewhat short battery life - might need to get a spare battery just in case...the camera does nicely depict how the battery is draining, just wish the batter would last a bit longer. Overall love the camera!

I bought this camera for a vacation trip and love the ease of using the camera. It takes great pictures, quite fast. I also like how you can set the screen preview to show a selfie while you take it. It's small and portable. It also records high-quality videos.

I love this camera. I needed a compact camera that would be easy to carry when I don't want to lug around my camera with the lenses, flashes, etc. I've purchased a few and sent them packing because of the quality of pictures taken with them. I'm a bit picky after using my semi-pro camera for so many years. This camera takes really good pictures even in low light and it is so easy to upload them to your phone using Wi-Fi. The only thing, and I'm nitpicking, is the manual flash. I'm not used to having to press a button to get it to pop up. This is only done once and then it is up until you close it. Other than that, I think this camera is great. I would definitely recommend this camera.

significant upgrade from the S9300

Purchased this camera days before an international vacation to replace stolen S9300 purchased just two years ago. Liked the old camera well enough - it took very nice pictures & had lots of features but I was missing my older Panasonic Lumix Lens. I like this S9900 much better for just a few improvements that make a big difference to me.
#1 - the lens is better in lower light situations. I still think Lumix is slightly better but this is much closer.
#2 - picture focus/snap speed! This might actually trump the better lens because it's faster than both older cameras & I feel like I'm getting a photo much closer to the moment I click the shutter-release button.
#3 - the rotating view screen, for two reasons: I like that I can protect the screen by folding it against the camera when not taking photos & because I'm a creative photo-taker so I'm able to angle the camera awkwardly to get a shot and still be able to view the scene (even around corners, or selfies).
#3 - battery life seems a little longer.
#4 - the flash doesn't pop up automatically, ever! It only raises when I release it, though the camera tells me when it thinks I should.
Drawbacks are minor/acceptable: S9900 is slightly bigger - doesn't feel as slim but does still fit in the small camera bag I bought for the 9300; surface texture is not as soft & smooth overall but has a large "grip" area where needed; lightly concerned about the delicacy of the flash rigging - I'll be very aware of it when raised & close it as soon as the flash photo is taken; also hoping the monitor pivot is well-constructed for the constant use I'm giving it...seems to be solid though.
All in all I'm very happy with the upgrades & the photo quality. I don't feel I gave up much & got more, especially more of the features that matter - and the price was the same as I paid for the lesser version 2 years ago.

This camera is great, especially the video! I have used this camera a lot lately and it has definitely met my standards! It has beautiful zoom, I zoomed in on the moon the other night and couldn't believe what the camera had captured. Only thing is...low light pictures absolutely need the flash which still come out beautifully but need the flash to come out nice, otherwise without the flash they will come out blurry. Definitely recommend!

Meter very good and great zoom, had difficulty downloading manual (only way to get one) and too easy to hit the WI FI button, which stops the camera, when trying a quick grab shot. No way to disable or delete WI FI to keep it from launching when button hit. A bit heavy/bulky for pocket or purse. Auto focus sometimes has difficulty in close up mode.

I'm enjoying this camera. Very good pictures and wifi connects fairly easily thru Nikon app with my iOS devices. Like that it has rotate able LED screen. Zoom works well, but at full zoom it's somewhat difficult to hold camera steady. Of course you can always zoom out 15x rather than 30x.

Bought this camera to take to New Zealand. Small enough to fit in my backpack or bike bag. Excellent zoom with good quality. Don't rush the zoom give it a second to catch up or will be fuzzy. It has a good amount of scene selections which i like.

Great for Intermediate shutterbugs

Good: Price, Shutter and aperture options in manual mode. I always buy Nikon due to the ease of customization of shutter speed and aperture. ISO is a bit more difficult to customize... had the camera for about 2 months now and it still escapes me. Well, for a point-and-shoot it is very versatile and a good camera for beginners. It is loaded with little extra features which can easily be enabled or disabled at the push of their respective buttons around the body of the camera - like auto GPS-tagging (geo-tagging), NFC photo transfer (bluetooth to smartphone/tablet) and wifi-direct features include printing and uploading. It also does 1080p recording. Low light shots are very good - took a great picture of the man in the moon during a full moon on a clear night; and the shutter speed range makes it possible (with a bit of finagling) to make a night shot look like an afternoon shot. Recommend using a 80mb/s regular SD (not microsd) card or above for best results - otherwise camera will seem very slow. All in all, would recommend as a portable do-it-all intermediate camera.
