I'm very satisfied with the photo quality of this camera and how easy it is to use. I am a beginner into the photography "scene" and this camera has by far met my expectations. The weight of this camera is perfect, not too light nor not too heavy. Battery life is pretty good but I recommend buying an extra one if going on longer adventures. People will stare at you with envy lol... professional styling and very sharp. First Nikon camera of many more to come!! You won't be disappointed!!!

Great Camera for the price. Pictures are of great quality, Pretty light for its size. The only downside is you need a memory card with lots of space if you want to use the video feature - with 128 GB you get about 30 min on high quality and the low quality on it will get you about 60 min. The Bluetooth feature with the Nikon App is nice to use

I recently became interested in taking better quality pictures than what my old iphone 6s can take. However, I didn't want a new phone. I simply wanted a better camera. After researching a lot, I decided to buy this camera with the two lens kit, the bag, and the tripod. I was hesitant because I thought it would be difficult to take pictures with it and maybe I wouldn't use it as much. However, I'm very happy with the purchase and I use it a lot. The battery life is great, the quality of the pictures is, as expected, much better than my old iPhone and the camera has been very easy to use, including the manual mode.

Really like this camera. I had bought a Nikon about 10 years ago and used it all the time. It finally broke and was told by a camera store that it would be cheaper to buy a new one rather than fix this one. This one is so much lighter than my old Nikon. Also does videos, which my old one did not. I was amazed at the price. Ten years ago mine was more than double what this new one cost me. Love the automatic feature but also like the fact that you can change the settings to play around with different shots.

I've taken over a thousand pictures with this camera, close ups, and long distance. This combo is a great starter kit for anyone thinking about getting into photography. I like that you can point and shoot with the auto mode and get great pics, or use the manual settings to get a precise outcome. Wish there was an option to save presets in manual mode.

I am a 'wanna be photographer' so this is my learning camera and so far, it's pretty easy to use. Plus Nikon's online tutorials help a lot. I was pleasantly surprised at how light weight it is - I had another camera that was smaller but heavier. This camera can do just about everything and my only suggestion to others is not to be overwhelmed. The info button helps a lot so use it! And the 70-300mm lens that was included kind of cinched the deal for me. Great purchase!

I have been waiting a while to get a new camera. Now that have bought this Nikon I couldn’t be any happier. It’s very user friendly and well made. It came with 2 lenses that will cover all your shooting needs (for now) and it also brought a storing bag (for free) . I have just slapped up into the DSLR world and this camera was the easiest to learn with because it shows you what happens to iso and aperture with the lens on the screen while you are adjusting the lens, it teaches you as you use it. Not to mention there’s a bunch of YouTube videos out there that you can learn from. I did my research before buying this camera and I’m so happy that I picked it. It’s great for landscape photography and does good with portraits as well. Totally recommend this camera to a beginner.

The Nikon D3500 is a really small DSLR that takes great pictures (when using an external flash). It is really small and lightweight package especially when using the bundled 18-55mm collapsible lens. High ISO and Autofocus performance is very, very good. The D3500 is Nikon's entry level DSLR replacing the D3400. These two cameras have very similar specifications but the real difference is the White balance. The D3xxx series before this model, had an orangery AWB when shooting with existing incandescent lighting (i.e regular light bulbs). This model does a much better job The colors are really so much better. The buttons are also rearranged to make one handed-shooting a little easier. However, the next camera up the line is the D5600 which currently sells for almost the same price since the D5600 has been around for a while. The D5600 which has almost identical and excellent image quality, is about the same size and weight (maybe an ounce or two heavier). But the D5600 has several important features the D3500 lacks; a fully articulating LCD, touch screen controls (in addition to buttons), many more ISO stops (The D3500 has only 2 ISO stops between ISO 400 and 3200), DOF Preview, Bracketing, better wireless picture transfer, automatic sensor cleaning, programmable FN button etc. Like almost all cameras, the built in flash is not great; an external speedlight with bounce capabilities is really essential for properly exposed photographs. The SB300 is a very small flash and a great match for this camera (and for the D5600). Like all cameras, the most important component is the skill and imagination of the photographer. Read less

I was worried about spending a lot of money on a camera when people were saying they get pictures just as good with their cell phone. Baloney. The pictures taken with this camera are in a different league then your cell phone. Very easy to use, and the battery life is out of this world. I’ve take Well over 1,000 pictures on a single charge. You’ll be happy!

I have the Nikon D3200. I purchased this D3500 for my beginner daughter. She is loving it. Acquiring both the basic lens and the zoom lens at this price was a great deal. The fact that this model has Bluetooth/wifi capability built in makes transferring images to a computer or smart phone a breeze.

This camera has been great. I’m new to photography and this camera is perfect for me. It has really great automatic features as well as a guide mode to help new photographers learn how to tune each setting for different types of photos. But even though it’s geared toward beginners, it also has a few different modes that allow you to tune every setting manually. I’ve had a lot of fun trying to learn all of the different settings on my own. As far as the build quality of this camera goes, it’s very solid. It’s a rather small camera but nothing about it is cheaply made. Having purchased this camera in the package with two lenses (18-30mm, 70-300mm) has also been extremely useful. I would say that having both lenses is a must. The photos themselves are very crisp and clean. The battery is spectacular and most times I can go on several trips without having to put it on the charger (though I only use it for about 200 shots each session). Uploading photos onto my computer has been extremely easy. Highly recommend this camera, especially to those who are just starting out and want to learn more about photography.

I recently wanted to get into photography and starting looking at cameras. Best Buy had a great selection. I decided on the Nikon D3500 due to its price, features, and that it came with 2 lenses. I have taken many photos with it so far and I have not been disappointed. I would recommend this camera to anyone interested in a beginning camera package.

Dark/black bands at high zoom and fast shutter spe

After 2 cameras, 3 lenses (2 Nikon 70-300 mm kit lens, 1 Tamron 18-270 mm lens), 4 micro SD cards and multiple flashes, I can say for sure that this camera has a peculiar sensor issue that triggers in only a very selective lighting and capture settings. Chronologic events: - Bought the camera in late November to capture memories of kids and couldn't be happier! - Excellent photo shoot of ice skating show, very impressed! - Used non-Nikon flash during the capture of a school event and realized that top half to 3/4 of the image is bright while the bottom part is dark. Assumed that it was due to sync error with the flash and ordered a Nikon-compatible flash. It worked fine. (In the hind sight, I did not notice that all the captures were at high zoom: >70 mm and fast shutter speed: <1/125 and high iso: >3200) - Ordered a Tamron 18-270 mm lens so that I do not have to keep switching lenses (kids are agile enough to miss the moment while swapping the lenses). First try at 18 mm: good capture (slightly dimmer than kit lens, but good quality). Second try at 270 mm: good capture with a dark band at the top (horizontal band, not dark corners, i.e., vignetting). Another attempt: 3/4 of the bottom is black! Another attempt: top 1/4 is black: another: bottom half is black. - Switched to kit lens 70-300: Same issue at higher zooms and high shutter speeds. - Switched to kit lens 18-55: no issue whatsoever (couldn't get shutter speed high enough in A or aperture priority mode). Could not replicate in S mode with shutter speed <1/250 seconds either. - Swapped the memory card. Same issue. - Contacted Nikon support. They suggested to send it in for service and acknowledged that this is not a known issue for Nikon 3000 series cameras. - Since I am traveling, the support suggested to exchange the camera at the point of purchase (BestBuy) while marking returned product as defective, if within return policy. Luckily I was - and returned the camera and got another D3500. - Completely virgin camera - no flash attached, no lens attached (i.e., no chance of "infection"!) - Mounted 70-300 kit lens and the issue repeated! - Tried 3 other cards and the same issue! - Tried Tamron lens and the same issue! Attaching select pictures of the problem, since only 2 images are allowed. First one is zoomed out at 70 mm (shutter speed 1/160), no issues, and the second one is at 300 mm with bottom blacked out. I took the picture at 300 in burst mode and there are all kinds of blackout: complete, upper 1/3, middle strip, lower 1/3 (displayed) etc. Shutter speed was 1/500. Does anyone else have similar issue or can reproduce it? With 2 bad cameras, I am convinced it is a manufacturing issue and is evident in low, yellow light, likely from the top (chandelier?) Thanks!

Great camera. I am a beginner with young children and wanted a camera I could easily learn as I don’t have time to learn a more advanced camera. I love that I can upload via Bluetooth to phone/iPad. Great quality photos. Glad I spent the money on this vs. a new phone w/ better camera.

I bought this so I can learn how to use a manual camera. It has great features for learning, like the guide mode settings. And it has a fully manual mode to play with. It takes beautiful pictures. I've noticed very minor noise or lack of clarity in some photos, but that might be from me not setting it correctly. But it's not going to be noticeable in most applications like social media, blogging, or personal keepsake photos. It might not be the best camera for someone looking to sell photos, though. It's lightweight but generally sturdy. The battery door is a little fragile so I'm concerned that at some point it will give out. The battery itself is great. I can briefly use the camera for days on one charge, or it will last for a couple hours of continued use. Plus a rechargeable battery it saves money and os better for the environment. If you're going to be shooting all day, I would recommend buying a second battery as the camera only comes with one. I've found the two lenses easy to use and hold. They attach and detach with ease so I can swap between them. They even come with a 5 year warranty. The viewfinder is nice. It's comfortable and has markers to help with focus and composition. I do wish it had a macro lens, as it can only do close-up. But I can always buy one. All in all, I'm happy with my camera. It's great for me while I learn and grow as a photographer. If I ever go pro though, I will need to upgrade as this it's pretty entry level.

I am overjoyed that I made the purchase of this camera. It is all that I needed to get started in the world of pro photography without spending a fortune. I’ll admit that it was tough decision between this Nikon model over the Canon Rebel models. After some deep research on both companies and models of cameras, Nikon was definitely the right pick for me. Nikon has a great website for training for beginners and tips for pros, but for a little cost. Learning how to use this camera in manual mode and the others as well was very easy, even though there is so much still to learn. I am definitely recommending this camera to anyone that is looking for a pro camera on a budget.

I purchased this camera as a gift for someone just beginning with photography. It was in the right price-range that a beginner would feel comfortable making the investment. With the added lens (and free bag that was part of the promotion at the time), the value was a no-brainer. While I've only used this camera a few times, the giftee has reported that the learning curve was not bad, and the quality of the shots have been a significant improvement over the 5-year-old point-and-shoot she had been using. So far, she hasn't felt the need to go beyond using the presets which have so far proven to work well for portraits, motion, landscapes, and night shots. Another point worth noting is that the NIKKOR lens system makes this camera easily adaptable for many use cases, and it allows for a beginner to transition into intermediate or advanced without needing to upgrade the body right away.
