If you're planning to get into photography or DSLR

    Posted .

I'm new in photography but I've learned so much in the past week that I've owned this camera. I've done about 8+ hours of research on how to use DSLRs and also done 4+ hours on other DSLRs around this price range and I have to say...nothing beats it in terms of value for the money. But of course, you have to understand that it also starts with your personal preference. What you're looking for may be completely different from what everyone else is looking for. For me, the 39 AF points are great and the fact that this camera doesn't have the optical filter in it means everything is sharper. You also get WIFI and GPS functionality built right in; you won't have to spend $300+ for adapters that take up room and space. This camera pretty much does it all, unless you want to spend upwards over 1k. Do research before you purchase, but if you're getting into DSLRs I recommend the Nikon D5300 or if your budget is low, go for the Nikon D3300. It's also a great camera for its price. Both comes without the optical filter and the newest exspeed 4 processor. If i had to give you some advice though, get the Nikon D5300 with the 18-140mm lens. The one that comes with this kit (18-55mm lens) is great but if you upgrade lens and get better ones, you might just leave that one in the bag somewhere. For another $200 or so, I'd get the 18-140mm that comes with the camera. I'm not saying the 18-55mm is bad though, it's a great piece of lens. If you're low on budget and you plan on using this piece of lens or if you're planning to just buy a nice prime lens, get the 18-55mm. Btw...if you're starting into DSLRs, i recommend you purchase the Nikon 35mm f/1.8 prime lens. GREAT lens for the value and it works wonders with this camera. I listed it in the related products down below. Comparison between rival models: Okay, so I was looking at this camera and its rival, the Canon Rebel T5i. Both has it's strong points and both will depend on the user's preference but I think the major selling point of the T5i is the Touch Screen. Most of us all use smartphones nowadays and we are all very used to using capacitive touch screens, so if you like that and ease of use behind that, the Canon T5i can be a strong option for you. It doesn't have 60p 1080 recording like the D5300 or the WiFi and GPS functionality either. The specs are a little bit older and weaker than the D5300 but you can compare that if you type it in google. The touch screen is a very strong feature and i REALLY wish Nikon put it in the D5300, but I guess everything has its pros and cons. I'm sure i've strayed away from the main topic quite a few times but I felt like I needed all these information when I purchased my camera. I hope this helps you, whoever read this :)

Awesome camera for a bigger or semi pro

I'm very surprise of the quality of picture and response of this camera. A lot of people don't know that this camera actually has equal sensor as the Nikon D7100 yes the D7100 Has Way higher megapixels and higher price tag but I'm very happy with this D5300. The wifi makes it so easy to transfer pics to any device. I highly recommend the Nikon D5300. I recommend the camera body but I don't recommend 18 - 55 mm lens that comes with in most kits. I use mine with an 18 - 105 from my previous camera with the 67 mm filter size and it's way way better. I hope this helps make your decision.

    Love this Camera!

I have always had an interest in Photography as a hobby but never owned more than a point and shoot camera. I just recently bought a drone and got into filming and taking pictures. I also got into editing the pictures and have found a renewed interest in photography. I decided I wanted to buy a nice camera to supplement my aerial photos. I did a lot of research and talked with my friend who got a nice camera last year. He bought a Nikon which I never even thought of. I have always thought of Canon when thinking of a nice camera. Boy was I wrong. Don't get me wrong the Canon's are great but they are over priced for what you get. With any of the Nikon's you get way more for your money. I decided on the D5300 because I wanted the added features of the flip screen, GPS and Wifi. The only thing it does not have that I thought I wanted was a touch screen, but once you get used to not having it it is just great. Also after using the camera I think it might be a problem as I have a tendency to hit the screen with my nose when using the view finder so not sure what that would do with a touch screen. This camera has so many features that I am still learning what all it does. I do recommend shooting with the kit lens for a while and decide what type of shooting you will be doing before buying another lens, then buy one for your style shooting. Thanks for reading my review.

I love this camera at a glance it is intimidating you would assume you NEED to be a pro to operate it. It is basically self explanatory. It take excellent high resolution pictures. Before buying this camera my family and I would take pictures but we would not develop them because of the bad quality pictures do to the camera. But after purchasing the Nikon 5300 DSLR Camera OMG now we print pictures all the time we even look for any reason just to go take pictures cause of the Profesional looking pictures, and don't get me started on the videos and it's 1080p HIGH DEFINITION . Well let me go is about to rain and there are some beautiful looking clouds that I need to take pictures of, I now if you buy it you WILL ENJOY IT!!!

I really have enjoyed this camera. I read several reviews on here and even went to YouTube. All reviews were great so I went ahead and bit the bullet! I have to say, I am so glad I went with the Nikon over Canon! This camera takes amazing pictures! I love uploading them to social media accounts. Everyone's always asking what kind of camera I use. I gravitate more toward nature photography. The lense it comes with is nice, although not my favorite, but it's decent! Kit lenses are usually like that. But for a beginner it's definitely a great one. I love the fact that it has wifi! This makes it SO easy to get the pictures to my phone without the hassle of connecting it to my computer. Only downside is if you have an iPhone you can't transfer video to your phone through the cameras wifi... But I've heard that with android you can! Battery life is great. I am very happy with this camera. It's definitely a steal! The price is great for what you're getting. It's easy to use, auto mode for beginners and once you get more familiar with it you can step up the quality! I definitely say go with this one. I was on the fence... But I don't regret my purchase one bit!

    Greatest DSLR camera so far...

As a beginner, this camera is a great investment. I have tried a number of DSLR cameras available but nothing beats my new Nikon D5300. Easy dowload of pictures through its wi-fi capability. I am able to grab photos from my camera without removing my memory card, which was a hissle before. Lightweight but durable. I am so happy to have it in my possesion and have my date with nature. Worth recommending to those who are looking for an affordable and reliable DSLR camera.

I'm an amateur photographer just starting out and this is my first DSLR and I couldn't be happier with my choice. My Nikon D5300 takes great, sharp pictures; very colorful. It's got great focus with the 18-55mm lens, pretty fast, too. It struggles a bit when in dim lighting, but other than that it's awesome. I'm now taking photography classes and practicing every day on my own and I would highly recommend this camera for any beginner that's got an interest in photography. I previously had a Nikon 1 J1 and I mostly used it to take pictures at music concerts I went to and I was pretty pleased with it, I'm a Nikon guy all the way.

    Loving this Camera

I purchased this after reading tons of reviews and comparisons between the 5300, the 3300 and the Canon rebel series. I'm nowhere near a professional level photographer, more along the lines of a momtographer who knows enough to be dangerous. I previously used a Nikon 1 J3 so I was pretty familiar with the Nikon platform. This camera was super easy to use out of the box. The 55mm kit lens actually does a great job with images. I did find that some of the buttons and settings were difficult to find, but a quick glance at the manual answered my questions. It's small enough that it fits in my hands really well and all of the buttons are within easy reach. It's pretty easy to make adjustments on the fly, and getting the correct focus is much easier than I thought! The integrated wifi was a breeze once you found the setting in the menu, worked great with the app. Overall, I've only has this camera a month and used it a handful of times but so far I absolutely love it and am so glad I spent the extra money for this model.

I have saved for this camera for months. I am so excited every time I use it, compared to my last camera, a Nikon 6006, going from film to digital, I can't believe the difference. I researched for months, reading lots of reviews, and feel that I made the right choice. I am enjoying photography again! This camera is very easy to learn, takes great pictures, and feels great in my hands.

I bought the Nikon D5300 for my husband after he went through 3 Canon DSLR's in 5 yrs. He keeps wearing out the shutters. So I thought we would give the Nikon brand a try. After using the D5300 and our D3300 for about a month and half. He says he likes the Nikons better. they are easier to use, and create sharper photos and videos. I think he has finally converted from Canon to Nikon.

First DSLR. I did a lot of research and compared features (Cannon/Olympus/Sony), and this model has better features for the price. WIFI is easy to use and lets you easily share pictures with other people (as long as they have the Utility App). 18-55 lens is ok, there are other packages out there that come with the 18-140 lens for about $150 more, but if you buy this lens separately its almost 400 bucks. Otherwise great camera.

Ok, I upgraded from a D5200 so I already knew about most of the menus and settings. The difference in picture quality is great. I am extremely pleased. In addition, the new collapsible lens is nice. It makes the camera really compact and yet takes great pictures.

    Excellent camera all around!

I had bulky 35mm cameras before, and I loved them for the sole reason that they did what I set it up to do. Since these dinos were phased out I moved to smaller compact cameras, and gave up on my talents, and allowed automation to take place in the digital camera world. I been eyeballing DSLR cameras for a while now, and I think this is the best package out there. Not quite professional, but above the rookie level. One can allow automated focusing, or take full control. Got built in WiFi which allows me to set up on a tripod, and trigger camera using my cell phone. Even if I do not have a tripod, I still have control of shutter, and I can ask anyone to hold and point the camera, while I make sure everyone is the way I want, and then take picture and be in the picture. Bought extra lens 300mm and a flash as well, and of course maxed out on the memory card this camera can handle. Extra battery and an extra memory card in case for some reason I run out of juice, or memory. I am set to go. And once again happy to be able to control my pictures. Been a Nikon fan past 40 years, owned Minolta, vivitar, Kodak, Pentax, Cannon, Hasabland, and by far Nikon leads the pack (in my book).

    Great camera for first DSLR

I bought this camera because we were expecting our first baby and wanted to capture every moment with at a preofessional level. After extensive research, we decided on the D5300. The price was just right for our budget and it had all the features we were looking for. Very easy to use. The controls are intuitive and the menu is easy to follow and choose from. My first few photos didn't look quite what I was expecting but after I got used to the camera I was shooting like pro. The resolution is the highest for this level. It's fast, although speed degrades if using the live view mode. fits nicely in my hands and everything is ergonomic. My favorite camera.

I have been researching cameras for a long time and this camera really has every little feature that makes taking pictures fun! As a mom this camera is light and easy to use compared to some models I have found. The screen tilts and it has some amazing edit options for fast moving kids which is nice too! I will definitely be recommending this one to all of my friends and family!

Lightweight, fast, easy to learn DSLR. I hadn't shot with an SLR for years, was up and running with this camera quickly. Just take each feature one at a time and learn how that works. Using the articulating monitor screen in Live view is handy for anyone that shoots at odd angles . The switches and buttons are comfortably placed, easy to reach and use. The 18-55mm kit lens that came with this takes has impressive quality photos. Zooms quickly and auto focuses fast. For me, the battery lasted long enough for a day's hike and took over 500 photos on a single charge.

A Canon user for years, this Nikon is unbelievable

I am a very loyal customer. However, the reviews about the 5300 were overwhelming positive. Also, my daughter's boyfriend had been raving about his Nikon and I finally gave up. I am glad I did. The quality of the pictures, ease of use, design and relatively compact size blew me away. The only con has been that vertical shots do not fully occupy the screen. I could do that on my old Rebel.

Had seen this camera in a bundle package online on one of Best Buys Market place sites, so I went in the store to see if they had any deals as good. They didn't but I thought maybe since I was there I would see if they could order the one I saw. They did more than that, they took the majority of the items listed online ( I didn't need a few of the small items anyway) pieced them together and matched the price and I left with my new camera and a smile on my face!
