I picked up this camera on sale for 599, it came with two "kit lenses". at this price point in my opinion this is the best for the price. you can get buy using the lens it comes with but if your looking to create the blurred background affect your gonna have to shell out for a new lens. if your comparing this D5500 to the D3300 don't. this is a way better buy. D5500 has a touch screen, wifi, and a better drive. there might be more but that was enough for me.

Purchased this for Mother’s Day for me wife. She had a micro 4/3rds before but really wanted a viewfinder and something larger. She is an absolute beginner and shoots mostly in auto. The picture quality is amazing. She uses it mostly for sports (Baseball and Basketball) for our Son. She gets frequent comments from friends on the quality of her photos. It was a great investment for a unit for an amateur but still give her room to grow if she wants

Got this on sale for a great price. Writing a short review after using it on an overseas trip. Purchased an 18-200 mm lens as I wanted to have a single lens that cover wide angle to telephone range for the trip instead of carrying the two kit lenses. The camera has pretty good low-light capability and has enough modes to meet most shooting situations. Touch screen control works great. Only downside is the Wi-Fi setup on this camera is rather limited. Nonetheless, it is possible to transfer photos to your iPhone using Wi-Fi. The newer 5600 has the newer Nikon bridge link using BT that allows a more seamless transfer. Not sure the extra cost for the newer camera is worth it as the rest of the camera is virtually identical.

I've always been a fan of Nikon and this camera & lens combo continues my love of the brand. I like the controls of the body for selecting shooting modes, depth of field preview and the overall feel of the body. I'm very satisfied with the image quality and I'm looking forward to more outings to experiment with the various features it offers.

As a longtime satisfied owner of the D5100, I recently had an interest in upgrading to the D5500 —especially with the killer kit promotion Best Buy had going on. The touch screen was a nice addition, one I didn't think I would appreciate as much pre-purchase. The extra AF points was a clear improvement over my tried and true D5100.
