Hard a hard time deciding which one to get, but I feel I made the correct decision. stepping up would have given me a larger body camera and a larger format, but I am very happy with the quality and size of this camera. The built in wifi, great ISO range and swivel screen were perfect choices. Also the fact that I can use my smart phone to not only download photos, but actually remotely view what your camera sees and snap a picture. This is considered an entry level camera, but i don't believe the camera knows that.

Love love love the articulating monitor. That helps take different, interesting angles that otherwise would be difficult to get. Images, resolution, noise are great. Focuses fast when not in live-view. Live view easy to access which is really nice when deciding I need it. It does focus slowly in live view. It is a camera that really acts like a DSLR and yet has low weight and size. Easy to change f-stops, shutter speeds. It is my carryaround camera when not using my D810 and I am very impressed. I'm including a photo I took with my cat on a windowsill. I placed the camera in the windowsill corner. I could shoot by touching the ariticulating monitor and having it focus where I touched it. There is no way I could take this...even with my D810, because I couldn't get my D810 and my head in there!. Love it! :-)

I wanted a camera that wasn't too basic or out of my league either. The D5500 is a perfect camera for ease of use right out of the box, but also gives you plenty of room to grow together as skills improve. The camera feels great in the hand. It fits well and doesn't feel like my fingers are cramped. The touch screen and menu settings work great for easy navigation. Automatic settings are pretty fast for the first shot and good on repetative shots if there's a lot of light. Camera itself is light weight and the kit lens is a good starting point, although I'll be testing prime lenses very soon to replace it. All in all it's probably the best bang for your buck right now, and definatly worth checking out!

I am loving this camera. It is my first DSL camera, and I am having a great time with it. I've wanted one for years, and this has definitely met my expectations, and then some. I'm taking a photography class soon, so I'll be more familiar with all the features, but so far I've been very happy with everything I've done. I don't see myself outgrowing this camera soon.

I read all the reviews before I purchased this camera and the 5-star reviewers were all on point. The setup is easy, the auto features produce awesome pictures, and I am learning to use the manual settings. The camera is easy to operate. My only issue so far has been that the wi-fi connection with my phone is erratic even when both units are close by. I'm not sure what to do to fix that. Otherwise, could not be happier.

This is my first DSLR camera and so far I'm loving it. Love the fact that it has built in wifi and a flip out screen. The quality of the pics are amazing. The body of the camera is really lightweight. Although it seems to be made of a hard plastic, it feels robust in your hands and not too cheap. Overall, it's a nice beginner's DSLR.

I am new to the DSLR world, and am only a beginner. This camera was sooo easy to use, right out of the box, and the pictures it takes are awesome. Currently, I am just geting used to the camera, but I plan to try some shots outside of the Auto mode in the near future. This was not only an exceptional beginner camera, but I think it will easily meet all of my photography needs!

I had already purchased a Panasonic g7 when I noticed the Nikon on sale in-store only for less than $500. I figured at that price what did I have to lose. Bottom line: it has gotten more use than the g7. It's light, rugged, has a nice feature set, and takes great pictures. The only question now is, do I keep both or sell the g7. Who I'm I kidding...I'll keep them both!

The picture quality was better than what I expected. The auto focus rocks. Still waiting to try out a few settings and will post an update after that. The touchscreen is very responsive but when you touch it to enable focusing on a specific section of the frame it automatically clicks a snap - which is distracting a bit. May be there is a setting through which I can avoid it, but yet to find it out. All in all a great product.

I had a T3i but didn't really invest in many lenses so I wanted to upgrade to something a little nicer and invest in lenses. I did my research and for under $1000, the D5500 seemed like the best option. It's small, lightweight, and very easy to travel with which is primarily why I wanted a DSLR. I'd recommend the 18-140 lens and the 35mm prime.

Camera is very intuitive with built-in help and touch screen capability is a huge improvement over past gen cameras. Small package makes travel and carry around a pleasure. A second command dial would be nice as you have to do some finger yoga to change aperture/ISO settings. Kit lens does admirably well. Purchased 55-300 Nikon lens to cover remaining range and so far am completely satisfied with the camera's performance.

I have always had an eye and a heart for photography and this camera has brought that love to a whole new level! I'm still learning about all the great things I can do with it but it definitely takes crisp clear pictures! I'm so excited for all the money this camera will save me taking my own children's photos instead of paying a studio! Great buy and easy to use even for beginners!

This is my first dslr camera and I love it! We were tired of poor quality cell phone pics and decided to invest a little for better quality photos. I'm a beginner and only knew what I've learned from reviews and videos but was able to get the hang of it very quickly. Highly recommended especially for families who want great pictures that'll last a lifetime.

I was looking for this camera from since it come out. I love touch screen that you can adjust all setting on it, great feature and plus for camera. Pictures are sharp and clean and video is just awesome. Lens on the other hand 18-55mm is low and you need to get maybe something like Nikkor 18-140mm for beginning. Overall I am happy with d5500.

I an a Canon user. for the past 7 years i have been using canon any single day and I recently wanted to upgrade my camera as i do ever 18-20 months but I had a very very bad and hard experience dealing with canon (customer services and sales associate) about my orders, so i just canceled all my order and decided to try Nikon. I saw this offert with an unbeatable price for such a camera exactly at this moment and i didnt hesitate. the Nikon D5500 is lighter than the usual canon camera i use, i have to admit that first when i took it i though it was suspucious but after reading the specs i was speachless. is still hard for me to use it as im a canon user so i think its normal, i need 1-2 week to get use to it. but definitely the image and the video quality are amazing and cant wait to test it my road-trip and actually i like the fact that is light. this camera is small, lighter and powerful. a very good traveler companion.

This camera has more features and better quality than any camera I compared it to . When looking for a DSLR I looked at Canon T6i, 70d and SL1. I also looked at Nikon D7200 and Nikon D5300. This camera is lower on the quality spectrum than the nikon D7200 but I still preferred it. The D7200 does not have movable display or touch screen. While the D7200 is more heavy duty it IS NOT water proof as some reviews imply. You will not be disappointed if you buy this camera and I would also recommend the Nikon 55 - 300 MM lens to go with it.

The camera is easy to use and light weight. Takes great pictures. Love the touch screen on this camera. The screen pivots so I can take accurate shots without having to use the view finder. I can even take "selfies" if I want to! The photos are great and the color is dazzling
