Customers are pleased with the D5500 DSLR Camera's excellent picture quality, ease of use, and touchscreen functionality. I absolutely love this camera! The swivel screen is amazing in itself, but the touch screen takes it to the next level. The new kit lens (VRll) that comes with it shoots better than the previous model, in my opinion. Still getting used to the Fn button being on the side, but it's no biggie.

This is my first real camera and I love it! It feemls like every picture I take looks good. You can take pictures in any circumstances and it just looks good, even on auto. I would recommend investing some time in learning the different controls though, as they only make things better. The battery on this thing is really strong and you can go days between charging. I find it easy to use and it is fairly lightweight. As a female with small hands, I can take one handed pictures when I need to. Wifi is a great plus, since I can get the pictures straight to my phone to upload to social media when I'm on the go. The camera app is a little rocky ans disconnects randomly - but that's not related to this camera. The wifi also drains the battery a little quicker. Overall, It's a great investment and I suspect I'll be using this camera for along time.

This is a great DSLR. It has multiple really good and amazing features. It is light in weight, the touch screen is a huge plus, which I did not think I was going to use so much and as often. The touch screen is a great feature if you are a serious photographer, and you are doing fast shooting. For example, action shooting, bird shooting, etc. You can change your ISO, SS, and F/stops so quickly that is is extremely convenient. Super great and amazing buy. I do not regret it at all.

I recently sold my Canon 40d and gear looking to get something a little smaller and lighter. I first tried the Sony A6000 which was smaller and lighter but failed to be user-friendly and lacked low-light capabilities. After looking at several reviews (KenRockwell.com is great!) and playing with a few newer DSLR's, I went with the D5500. I have not been disappointed! Features are great but the big selling points to me were the touchscreen (lacking on the A6000) and how easily/quickly the menus can be navigated. When I see a shot, I don't want to miss it by spending forever trying to navigate set-up menus. Lenses are more affordable and give some great resolution.
Fun features include the variety of scene selections (color select being a favorite. My pocket Canon Elph has it but my 40d didn't), easy exposure up and down controls, quick ASA adjustments, etc... plus this one being lightweight and smaller than my previous DSLR's make it the right choice for me.

This is my first DSLR purchase, and I'm loving it so far! The camera is simple enough to figure out, particularly if you're already familiar with things like aperture and ISO etc. It does have plenty of automatic settings for beginners, although I strongly recommend learning to shoot in manual mode since that will give you better results. The only reason I didn't give this a perfect 5 star rating is that I wish the lens that came with it had a larger aperture. I sometimes have trouble getting clear pictures in low light situations as a result (I primarily shoot concerts, so the use of flash is not allowed or is at least strongly discouraged). Honestly, that's my own fault for not researching it properly, as I did not know different lenses had different aperture ranges. It does work very well in well lit situations though, so I recommend it to anyone who will be shooting primarily in daylight or in well lit rooms.

This camera has worked great. We have taken some action pictures for 8x10 printouts and they look excellent. I do recommend getting an additional zoom lens for sports. The touchscreen really speeds up making changes on the fly. This is my first DSLR and it is great taking pictures and having them turn out looking good. It has plenty of manual settings for more experienced photographers. If you want to use the live view remote app, make certain you have an extra battery. We use it for taking pictures of birds at the feeder while sitting at the table. The birds appear at the feeder, shown on our phones live view screen, and we press the remote button. No waiting outside trying to be perfectly still.

This is a superb lightweight camera with nice grip. I got it when it was $500 in Bestbuy, which was a real steal at that price. It has awesome processor and sensor, and can take pictures equal to the finest DSLR cameras out in the market. I love the tiltable screen that allows me to take pictures from angles high and low, that I couldn't get with a fixed screen camera. And I love that it comes with very usable kit lenses, but can also be used with high end lenses for even better results. This camera has greater depth of field than the larger full frame cameras. It has the superior color and dynamic range.

I am a novice user and was looking for a good DSLR that took great photos and videos. I was also looking for something that could take fast pictures during sporting events. The D5500 has been excelent. It is simple enough for a novice user, but has enough advanced features to edit photos or wireless to transmit photos to my phone. Taking videos with the zoom lenses has also been great, the only challenge is keeping the zoom focused as its difficult to see when your outside in direct sunlight. Again, great camera.

This is actually my first DSLR and I was impressed with what it does. Bought it thinking it wouldn't do as much as any other expensive camera but it has me impressed the more I learn to use it. Very lightweight and compact and the touch screen feature makes navigating the screens easily. Kinda bummed out its on sale when I pre ordered it when it came out but overall great camera!

I was an avid outdoor nature and railroad photog back in film days with a couple Minolta bodies and several lenses. It took me a while to switch to digital and I started with a simple Canon point and shoot 12 years ago. Then 5 years ago I stepped up to an Olympus superzoom that I liked but it wasn't flexible enough. This summer I finally took the plunge and bought the Nikon D5500 with both the 18-55 and 55-300 lenses. I've been impressed. It is easy to learn but has enough features that I'm always learning something new about how to use it. It is quite easy to just pick up and start shooting on auto. I also really appreciate the non-flash auto button. Most of my auto photos have come out quite good. I love the articulated touchscreen. Very handy. You'll use it more than you think you will. The camera size is another plus. It is lightweight but solid, and large enough to comfortably hold, but not too big that it weighs you down. Buttons and menus are reasonably intuitive, once you play with it a little, and this is my first Nikon digital experience. I do wish some of the buttons on the rear were slightly larger but that's the price you pay. Battery life has been quite good with 300-400 shots average. It all depends of course on how much you use the screen. The only negative is that it takes a little while to focus if you are using the live view. Not good for fast action. Viewfinder auto focus has been fine. All in all, I'm happy with the camera and very pleased with BB sales and customer service. I expect the D5500 will give me years of photographic enjoyment.

My 1st DSLR camera and could not be happier with my choice. Takes great pictures and love the swiveling touchscreen. Its also smaller and lighter than other cameras I was looking at. Fits really well in my smaller hands.

Bought this because my wife and I were going on a trip and were having a baby so I figured it would be better than my camera on my phone. The camera is amazing. I bought it at a great price and is better than the entry level Nikon. Very lightweight. The quality of the photos and videos I take are incredible and I'm an amateur photographer. I mainly use the Auto setting for my photos, but I'm still learning about the features and how to use them. Also, the fact that the camera can connect over wifi and transfer images directly to my phone via the Nikon App is incredible, especially when you're on a trip. I like the lens it came with too because it conveniently gets smaller with the push of a button and doesn't stick out as long as it normally does (such as when it's in use). I would love to buy some more lenses but they're expensive!

This is my first DSLR. I'm still getting used to it, but it is easy to use and understand. The image quality is what I expected. I do like the touch screen. It allows me to frame a picture and then choose a spot in the picture to focus on. Glad I bought it!

This is my 3rd Nikon camera. I currently own and use the D5000. I decided to get a newer camera considering all the new options that are available. Let me tell you.....I am completely and utterly amazed with this camera. I am in the process of re-learning everything as the body styles, buttons, menu, etc. have changed. But, I'm a work in progress. I did read all of the reviews on every single site I could find on Nikons. I even printed them out from all the websites, read them again and highlighted my issues / concerns / pros and cons. I went to Best Buy to look at the cameras and one of the managers actually sat down in the middle of the aisle, pulled up various camera statistics / features on his phone while I pulled up other cameras on my phone so we could compare them. The 5500 was the best option for me and was on sale as well. Thanks Best Buy!!! (I also compared the pricing to other local stores including Sam's Club.....did NOT compare at all!!! Best Buy had 25% off accessories if you bought a camera.....I bought several accessories! I saved over $600 in doing that.)
