Great midrange DSLR with some quirks
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendMy wife and I were looking for a quality DSLR without breaking the bank for an upcoming cruise and to capture the rest of our lives together and our research led us to the Nikon D5x00 series. If you made it this far, you are probably like me and found Nikon had a slightly updated version of the highly touted D5500, and while the differences are not massive, there are a few notable ones: 1) Snapbridge support offering NFC and Bluetooth connectivity on the D5600. 2) Touch screen support of picture advance/scrubbing in review mode 3) Automatic time lapse feature, nice for capturing sunsets, day changes automatically 4) Slightly smaller body, but slightly higher weight Otherwise, the features remain nearly identical, and we ended up choosing this over the Canon Rebel T6i/s competitors because it was smaller and did 1080p/60 video instead of 1080p/30. The difference in price over the older D5500 was only $100 more and it also offered the 18-140mm kit in a bundle while the D5500 did not, so we ended up buying the D5600 just as it came out via pre-order. The main reason we ended up choosing this popular 18-140mm lens kit bundle was due to some research and youtube videos stating it was the best all-day carry type lens that gave some telephoto zoom, but also good results up close and in some lower light situations. Apparently, others came to similar conclusion since this kit is now showing as "SOLD OUT". We are looking forward to touring the Mediterranean with this camera in tow! We also ended up getting the Nikon 35mm f/1.8G as well for an indoor low light and portrait prime lens, so while we will minimize the need to swap lenses outdoors, we will still swap to the 35mm indoors. As for the camera itself, overall it performs very well but we haven't had a chance to really test it too much in the dead of winter. Snapbridge is still a bit quirky and annoyingly, does not auto-connect to the Wi-Fi on your phone, you have to manually navigate to it each time to use the phone control feature. We ended up buying the handheld remote instead to simplify the process. Some negatives of the kit itself, it is very sparse. There is no hood or lens bag included. The battery doesn't even come charged. There also isn't an SD card included, even a tiny one that would let you get shooting right away, so make sure to have one beforehand. I noticed some of the older camera kits included these kinds of things. We bought a couple extra batteries, and a Lowe Pro Slingshot 250 bag to store everything using BestBuy's 25% off combo, as well as a few filters, 67mm UV for protection and 67mm polarized for outdoor bright glare shooting. Overall very happy with the camera and everything we purchased so far, we'll be sure to test it out more in the future!

Excellent Camera
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI upgraded to this from the D5200. It takes a bit of getting used to. It has fewer settings on the dial but so far it has done a fabulous job of compensating for that so I don't miss them. I recorded video with it and wow! I do notice a big difference from the older model. I bought mine with the 18-140mm lens. When it says 18mm it means from a distance. It does not like it if I want really up close photos and I'm already sitting up close. I was hoping to not have to switch back to the 18-55mm but alas I will because I do a lot of close-up photography.

Very good travel camera
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThis camera is very good as a travel camera because of its small form factor and minimal weight as compared to some of the larger Nikon cameras, e.g., the D7500. Sure you are sacrificing some features as compared to the higher-end cameras, but not that many. It is a great camera!

My First DSLR
|Posted .Pros mentioned:Ease of use, Features, Picture qualityI would recommend this to a friendThis is my first DSLR, after searching for almost a month to find a good beginner level camera and waited for around 10 days I got this camera D5600 with 18mm-140mm lens for $250 discount. Well the wait time and research time is worth as this camera does it works perfectly fine. It was easy to setup quickly and I have started taking photos immediately as I had quite a good hands-on with DSLR camera earlier. Its compact, lightweight, easy to handle. On the photography side being a beginner, I cannot find anything fishy in the camera as it does its job perfectly fine. Couple of things I found it difficult in using this camera, 1. Snapbridge connectivity is not fluent, often taken time to establish connection. It also drains up your mobile and camera battery. For best result, use this feature when are around with power source. Try using Remote Shutter Release devices if you are interested only in taking photos remotely. 2. Touch screen doesn't provide touch options on all the functionality available. For whatever options its available it works perfectly fine.

Love this camera
|Posted .Pros mentioned:Picture qualityI would recommend this to a friendI previously had a D5300 that I adored and this one is a slight upgrade. Took a little getting used to because some of the controls are a little different, but I like it. My old 18mm-55mm lens aggravated me because I was switching it out very often for the 55mm-300mm lens. With this 18mm-140mm lens the need to switch lenses is greatly reduced, but the tradeoff is that this lens is heavier. The camera itself is lighter than my old 5300, so it's really not much different other than now I have to pay closer attention to keep from bumping my lens when I'm in crowded places or climbing on and off rides (ex: Disney World). Overall I think it is worth it to avoid having to switch lenses as often. The picture quality from this camera is wonderful. I've had more than a few people comment on my photos asking if I was a professional.

Love the camera!
|Posted .Pros mentioned:InstructionsI would recommend this to a friendI originally bought one of these for myself and my wife and I loved it so much we got her one as well. My camera came with the 18-55mm and a 70-300mm. Hers came with the 18-140mm. The camera takes great shots with all of them. We upgraded to a couple higher end lenses and the images these cameras take with them are incredible! The auto mode is nice if you want to just open the camera and start shooting but the manual mode gives you much more control and flexibility. It is easy to learn on and the controls and menus are very customizable. We were both amateurs when we got these and I think they are not only great to learn on but they'll cover a lot of our needs as our skills progress as well so we won't need to upgrade for a long time.
