I HAVE HAD A FEW DIFFERENT CAMERAS, MAJORITY OF MY PICTURES ARE OUTDOOR AND SPORTING EVENTS. WITH OVER 24 PIX AND 6 FPS, THIS CAMERA IS SO FUN TO USE. COMBINE THE CRAZY FAST AUTO FOCUS AND SHUTTER SPEED, YOU HAVE TO TRY TO GET A BAD PIC. I CAN SIT AT THE TOP OF THE BLEACHERS AT FOOTBALL GAME AND TAKE ANY PIC WHENEVER I WANT. LAST 2 EVENTS TOTALED ALMOST 300 PICTURES, WITH A TOTAL OF 6 PICS THAT WERE BLURRY. AWESOME PURCHASE!!!

For a few years I've owned a Nikon d3000 and it was a great learning tool. As my skills progressed, I grew tired of digging through the menu to adjust common settings for my photo compositions. This is where the d7100 comes in. At 900 bucks, it filled that gap and moreover I can now record video. Although it's a cmos sensor it's stilled cropped so all my glass still functions with it. I primarily shoot 35mm prime because it was relatively inexpensive, has good depth of field and works wonders in low light. I will say there is a learning curve with the new body and glass but only a small one. So far my experience with the body has been a pleasant one. I think it will improve even more once I master the metering and focusing.

The adjustments are easy to use. I take a lot of family pictures in different lighting conditions and self timmer requirements. Over all a good camera for the money and I could use all of my DX lenses. I looked at the D600 & D800, but they were more expensive and would require buying new lenses.

    Little advanced for a beginner

I bought this camera knowing it was going to be a bit advance for my photography level, which was "point and shoot" level, because it was the "cheapest" camera recommended for taking night photography. Ideally, I should have bought a Full Frame sensor camera for night photography but considering the $1,000 price difference between that and this DX sensor camera, I'm pretty pleased with the results. (And being a newbie, I doubt I would know the difference) I haven't been able to take any star trail shots yet due to the weather and the light pollution in the area but I was just amazed at how much light this camera was picking up. Some of my first attempts at taking star trails in my back yard were a bust because the camera was picking up the street lights from two blocks away, it literally looked like daylight. The shots of the moon gave amazing detail. The camera has a lot of "automatic" features to help someone like myself get a starting point and then switch over to manual mode to tweak settings to get the effects that I'm trying to achieve. My sister who is more on the semi-pro photographer level and her pro friends also have this camera and love it for their action and portrait work. For my uses, I seriously doubt that I will out grow this camera for a long time.

I am very pleased with the quality of this camera. It's light weight, but doesn't feel cheap. The pictures are clear and the camera is easy to operate, Little time to start taking high quality professional looking photos.

I read through many reviews before purchasing the D7100. I was considering the full-frame 610, but decided the D7100 would suit my needs perfectly. I was upgrading from my D200, which was quite nice 10 years ago! The improvements to the D7100 are wonderful, and the lens I purchased with it (the 70-300) was also very nice. I chose to review tutorials on YouTube, which I highly recommend. They were very helpful and introduced me to the new features very quickly. All-in-all, a terrific camera!

If you are looking to take pictures as a beginner to a serious enthusiast, this camera serves you all what you need. I got this used with low shutter actuations recently for my wife, and I am very pleased with its performance. It almost has all the features of my D750 except that this is a crop sensor.

I am a longtime Nikon photographer and this camera is simply a dream. It is powerful, flexible and produces beautiful photos. The photos are sharp, the colors are vivid. I configured the dual memory card feature to separate raw and jpg files which gives me flexibility when uploading images. I also coupled it with the WU-1a adapter and l'm impressed with the results

I recently upgraded to this model after owning the Nikon D5000 for 5 years. It is a beautiful camera to work with. Put the right lense for your capture & it delivers. I'm very impressed with the quality of pictures & video quality & sound with no attachments that I get with this camera. I shoot manual & pictures are RAW format. Beautiful results.

My D90 has been a workhorse for several years and I wanted some of the features of the D7100 (better sensor technology) as well as increased FPS for sporting events. I am very pleased with the D7100 and learn something new with each shot I take. Great price point, very pleased. Just wish it had built in WIFI.

I highly recommend this product if you are not hung up on an FX format camera. Back up a bit if you need more coverage. The camera's ability to shoot nearly as well as its more expensive siblings at a fraction of the cost, is well worth it.

I had a D90 and this Nikon was the first I have seen that was worth making the upgrade. Much better ISO/noise, two SD cards and much more! The best DX format available and uses all of your old lenses, including my old full frame 200-400mm Tamron.

This is a great camera overall. Amazing picture quality, a ton of features. My only complaint is that there are so many settings that it can be fairly daunting for a beginner. That's not really a bad thing, it's just a lot to absorb. I really recommend pouring through the manual, and then looking up help on the internet if you want to get the most out of the camera. It does have your standard "point and click" settings which will help a lot when you're starting out, but if you want to get the best out of this camera, then you want to use the advanced features.

I got this camera as an upgrade from my D3200. It took very little time to adjust to the functions of this camera. I chose this cameras over a full frame sensor cameras so I could still use all my current lenses! The picture quality is all that I expected and more!

I struggled with focus and soft images with the d7000 thinking it was operator error at fault. From the first image taken with the d7100 it became clear it was the camera not me! I absolutely love the d7100. Not enough difference between the 7100 and 7200 to justify extra cost. More buffer but that's not a priority for me.

Bought this camera to replace my D80, which has been faithfully serving me for almost 5 years now. I went back and forth between getting the 5200 with the flip out screen or the 7100. My choice came down to a couple key factors... first, I rarely use live mode when shooting, so the flip out screen was not really that necessary. Second, the info screen on top of the camera body is crucial to me. While the D5200 is a great camera, having to make all the adjustments from the back screen can get very annoying to someone who has worked predominately with the info screen on the top of the camera. In all, I haven't had a great chance to use this camera to its full extent yet, but from what I have used of it, I am very pleased. The picture quality is superb, along with the 1080 video. The auto-focus system is extremely fast and generally very accurate. It's borrowed from some of their higher end cameras, and I'm very happy to see Nikon bring it down to their mid-level SLR's. I also really like the 1.3x crop feature that effectively enhances your zoom to 1.3x, while obviously downsizing the MP count to a still very respectable 18MP. My only complaints so far with the camera are the lack of continuous burst shooting in RAW format, along with a lack of correction to the Live View when changing settings. When shooting in RAW, you quickly fill up the camera's buffering capacity, so even though the camera can shoot at a nearly 6 FPS rate, you'll fill up the SD writing ability of the camera after about 1 second and drop to a 2.7 FPS rate. Granted, I don't shoot much in the way of sports, so it's not a huge issue for me, but if you're a RAW sports shooter, you may want to look elsewhere. The problem is mitigated when shooting in JPEG and the camera is able to shoot continuously up to 50 shots at the 6 FPS rate. The other thing I don't like is the fact that adjustments made to shutter speed, aperture, etc aren't reflected in the Live View mode instantaneously. Instead, to see the difference it makes, you have to exit Live View mode and then re-enter it. Again, not a huge deal, but kind of a nuisance, especially consider nearly every point and shoot camera with manual controls has this ability. Overall, despite the two gripes I have, I love this camera so far. The features, performance, and picture quality are hard to beat for the price. If you're a serious amateur or even just need a back-up to your Nikon D4 (at which point, you're probably not reading reviews on the Best Buy website), I would highly recommend this camera. The Canon 7D is a worth adversary, and when the Canon 7D Mark ii comes out, I'll be interested to see how they try to up the ante. But if you're a traditional Nikon user with numerous Nikon lenses, there is definitely no point in switching and the D7100 should fulfill most all of your requirements in an all-around, mid-level DSLR.
