Even in auto mode, pictures looks fabulous. User friendly, has buttons around the body of the camera to change the picture specs as required. I used wireless adapter to transfer pictures, although wireless network get disconnected frequently, it better than connecting cable and transferring pictures in old school way. Tried pictures in manual mode with 55-300mm lens, pictures comes perfect..

This is one great camera! I replaced it with a Cannon Rebel which I really like also. But this one can do so much more! I love the features about this one though! Can't go wrong to buy it!!

Robust camera body and stable VR lenses

The Nikon D7100 has a robust body with a great many features. A quick guide gets photography started without much learning effort, but use of the many features requires time and practice. Be careful of menu selections, because there is no undo button, and significant errors like reformatting an SD card can be made if the photographer. like me, is incautious. Reading and studying the manual section that describes individual menus and their navigation is recommended before taking too many photos. Auto focusing is quick and sharp, and low light picture taking capabilities are amazing to me, whose purchase of the D7100 is the first camera purchase since buying a Nikon N6006 film camera 26 years ago. The camera will even focus in the dark. A problem is that brushing the buttons on the rear of the camera - just in its normal handling - can change the display settings or enter the photographer into undesired menu items.
The two kit lenses have very good image stabilization in their VRII (18-55 mm zoom) and VR (55 - 300 mm zoom) modes. They are amazing that way actually. To my unprofessional eye, the 18 - 55 mm zoom is very, very sharp for close-ups, nicely capturing flower buds and blooms, and droplets of water on them. The 55 - 300 mm zoom also looked to give very sharp images to me. At a zoom of 300 mm (450 mm equivalent focal length) in VR mode, I was amazed that handheld bird shots had no visible shake in the pictures at a shutter speed of about 1/500 of a second. On the downside, both lenses are nearly impossible to focus manually, in part because their focusing rings have virtually no frictional resistance; the slightest touch moves them out of focus, so its extremely difficult to manually zero in on the object.
I tried a Nikkor 28 mm fixed focal length lens from my N6006 on the D7100 (for this older NIkkor lens, the D7100 must be set to manual focus, otherwise the camera might be damaged, the manual warns). I thought the 28 mm lens, of fixed focal length and designed for full frame, might provide a noticeably sharper image than the 18 - 55 mm kit lens, when shot at about the same equivalent focal length, shutter speed and ISO number. But the images with the 2 lenses were about the same to my eye. And both had what appeared to be a lack of detail (smudging?) in the smaller elements of the photographs (spring flower blossoms about 1/20 to 1/50th of the image height). Since the 28 mm lens might be expected to provide more detail, maybe this limitation is due to the sensor or to its associated software. Or maybe the detail that I desired on such a small dimensional fraction of the whole image is unrealistic for any 24 Mp sensor, or for any modestly priced lens - I don't know.
I would recommend this camera for its robust body, many functions, flexibility in use, quick autofocus and low light capabilities. And I would recommend the two kit lenses, with their VR capabilities, as long as manual focus isn't required. Its understood I guess that theses lenses sharpness and overall performance isn't likely to be as good as lenses costing 5 to 10 times more. But at my photography ability level, I was positively impressed with the 55 - 300 mm lens sharpness over its full focal length range, and the 18 - 55 mm lens sharpness, when used in a range from about 1.5 feet to about 30 feet.

We were a little worried going in. "Are we getting the right camera for our needs?"; "Is this a good deal?"; "What are all those buttons for!?" After of few days of playing with the different settings and trying different angles and such, we found that we really like the shots this camera takes - crisp!! The price to product seems like a good buy. I've taken some shots that have been printed and hung already and am very satisfied, so far, with my purchase. If there is anything negative I may report, it is heavy (as was expected). Other than that, I love it.

the camera body itself is amazing. Can be a bit difficult to maneuver through the menus and setup but having a basic understanding of operating a dslr or even a decent point and shoot, it should be a fairly easy transition as it was for me. The lenses themselves are great too; for a beginner. They are sharp and relatively fast for everyday use but of course nothing compared to professional glass. The camera bag is quite nice, fits everything in with ease but if you are planning on expanding your gear collection rather quickly you might want to think about a bigger bag. The SD card is fine but if you plan on shooting raw in Continuous mode or anything requiring higher write speeds consider something much faster.

First DSLR camera I've ever bought. Instead of going with a beginner camera, I decided to spend a little more and get something that I know I will be using for quite awhile. There are tons of things to learn, but if you are really dedicated, it's an AMAZING camera! I found some tutorials online and learned the basics pretty well! And when I say basics, I mean learning all the different buttons on the camera that can manipulate light. Not just auto! Quality photos!! Waay better than any simple digital camera I have ever owned.

Great camera for my daughter. Great bundle deal! It was an excellent Christmas gift. And the photos she has taken look really great. Makes all of her subjects and people look great. A lot of the people have never had had head shots taken and could not believe how nice they turned out.

If you want to start photography to a higher level, this is perfect! it's easy to use all the basics features. still need a little more practice to be able to use the little more complicated ones. the two lenses is great and a big saving! If you read the book provided with the camera and if you go online for some advise (bunch of youtube videos to learn how to use it), you'll be able to master it pretty quickly!

This is my first digital SLR. I used an old Minolta SRT 101 for years and got tired of searching for Kodachrome 25. Time to move up to a DSLR. Lots more buttons, menus, and settings than a 40-year old film camera, but the well written user manual clearly lays everything out. Started out carrying it for reference but now that I've been using the camera it in manual things are coming more naturally. The only thing I find disappointing is the ISO can't go below 100. Most of my work is close-up photography so detail is critical. Miss the old ISO 25 setting. BTW-- the included lenses work smoothly with the camera and are the usual Nikon quality. The package I ordered included two additional lenses (four total) including the macro which has been my go-to lens so far. No complaints at all about either the lenses or camera.

Reviewed product before purchasing but still had plenty of questions to ask sales associate. He was more than helpful. Product itself is working fine but for a non technical geek that I am this product is taking a long time to learn. The camera can do so much more than I am use to. But, the pictures I am taking are coming out great. This was a wonderful package deal!

My second digital , an upgrade from 6 megapixels to 24.1, lots to learn and will be at the Nikon School which is a plus. Picture quality is great along with great features as scene mode, special effects and live mode. Looking forward to many years of Nikon greatness . First digital is also Nikon and still running strong somewhere in the twenty year old range.

I received this as a gift and love it. Every year I struggle to take awesome Christmas pictures. Between the sunlight thru the Windows, the lights on the tree and glitter paper pictures never turn out. This camera has no problem. The outside pictures are awesome too
