The only cons to this camera so far are file sizes, difference in memory card slots and the proce obviously. I wish the slots were of the same type. Everything else is a pro and a major upgrade from my 2 previous bodies the D750 and D7200. The autofocus system in this camera is like nothing I have ever used before, customization of Fn buttons and stuff is nearly endless. And 9fps with the grip and larger EN-EL18 battery, WOW!

Yeah this camera has come a long way from my Nikon FE2 back in the day with just knowing aperture and shutter speeds and what type of film to use … I thought I had a lot of options with my Nikon D2x 10 Mega pixels … I am so happy I upgraded and still learning all what this camera can do by watching instructional Youube videos.

    Huge Upgrade from D810

    Posted .

I'm a Professional Photographer, I'm glade I got my D850 2 days after the realse day, even though I've got a weird email saying my order is backorder now and I should expect it in November, any way I have been using it for a week now almost every day, I'm happy so far with the results I almost tried all the new features, first it was easy to access right out of the box, especially for me because I used d810, the tilting touch screen is so useful and handy and similar to my phone, fast processing, the pictures resolution is astonishing, the 4k video and the slow mo is just amazing, silent 4k time-lapse video shooting, live view silent shooting up to 30 f/s in DX mode, pressing the shutter for 1 sec and there are 30 pic were taken. and of course the WIFI and bluetooth capability is very helpful and a huge plus..

    Pros mentioned:
Ease of use, Picture quality, Resolution

Have been shooting Nikon gear for a lot of years. 13 years with a Nikon D50 APS-C and then stepped up to the D7500. When I was presented with an opportunity to buy the D850 I jumped on it and have not been disappointed. The transistion from APS-C sensors to a full frame sensor took a bit to get used to especially with the resolution being 8 times the D50 and over 2 times the D7500, but was quickly overcome by changing some of my shooting habits. The resolution is great and the color is awesome straight out of the camera. I already had a collection of full frame lenses so I did not need to buy a a bunch of new gear to transition to full frame, so keep that in mind if you're moving into a full frame for the first time from a crop sensor camera, because full frame lenses work great on crop sensor bodies. BUT crop sensor lenses do not work well with a full frame body unless you switch the capture mode to DX (crop/APS-C) format, in which case its a waste of a great sensor and you should look at the D500 or D7500. I have taken low light, night time, long exposure, and full sun pictures and have had no problems and love the quality of low light and night photos that can be taken with this camera. The menus are natural and intuitive for me since I am a previous Nikon DSLR shooter. I can say this camera is not for everybody due to its size and weight (body alone) and then add in high end all glass lenses and the weight can be a bit much for long day shots for some. I have weighed one of my combinations of the D850 body and Tamron 150-600 and it comes in at just about 7 pounds. So if weight and big size is an issue be warned this is a bigger camera but not un-manageable even for my girlfriend who has small hands.

This is an incredible camera! However, because of the high price tag and the lack of a lot of auto settings that most consumer grade cameras have these days, I would not recommend it for a beginner just interesting in casual vacation photography. The body is very heavy for a DSLR due to the fact that it is built to withstand the heavy workload of a professional photographer. The pictures that you can take with this camera are simply amazing and the clarity of the photos rival any camera I have seen. If you are looking for a professional camera, this is a great choice.

I stepped up from a Nikon D3300 and this is a major step up in equipment. This camera is more of an advanced camera and has a ton of features for any type of photography you are looking to shoot . Once you understand the basics of photography you will be taking pictures that will amaze you. Make sure you spend the extra money on a good lens. Beware of online retailers selling this unit at a discounted price. It will be a gray market/international model and you will not have a warranty nor will you ever be able to get it repaired as camera repair places will not be able to order parts based on a gray market serial number.

This Nikon DLSR model is now a couple years old and is still holding its own for picture quality. Paired with a solid prime lens it sets a standard that is hard to beat. I've owned perhaps 5 or 6 previous models of Nikon SLR and DSLR cameras. This was a purchase i'm not likely to regret and will keep for several years to come. I would highly recommend it for an advanced hobbyist or professional if you have good glass to take advantage of the image quality. I also would point out the ability to take multiple focal point images of a subject and combine them to yield a substantial depth of field macro photo - simply awesome results.

I purchased my D850 in May, upgrading from my D3200, D5200 and D7200. I love almost everything about this camera. The images are absolutely stunning, all of the features are amazing and the battery life is great! My biggest issue, which happens to be a huge one for me, is the amount of moire that I'm experiencing. I had never even heard of this term until I used the D850. I hadn't seen it mentioned in D850 reviews so I spoke with Nikon and they informed me that without the low pass filter, moire is completely normal. I was told to try to step back/forward from my subjects, zoom in/out and constantly check my images at 100% for moire. That's not always possible at weddings. Or change my aperture to f/16 or so. That's 100% not going to work at most weddings! Lightroom, Photoshop and Capture NX-D have ways to fix it in post but they do not always work, which Nikon also informed me is completely normal. Do some SERIOUS research on moire before purchasing! Plaid, tight fabric designs and a lot of suits will be your enemy! The attached photos of the gray pants shows you the before and after. Capture NX-D did a pretty good job on this one. However the maternity photo is after using Capture NX-D and it didn't fix it at all! I tried LR & PS with no luck.

I pre-ordered early and lucky enough to get my D850 on the first shipment, Bestbuy even exceeded my expectations by shipping it on next day air. Wow! what can I say? This camera truly is a game changer with its well thought of improvements it blows away any competition out there. Who would have thought you can have portrait, landscape and sports camera all rolled into one. Nikon again set the bar too high it left the competition scratching their head on how to produce a camera that comes close to this!
