Not the best 360 purchase I have made

Poor out of box experience. Original Pre-Order was canceled by Best Buy without notice. Charged for Accessory pack which was supposed to be free with pre-order. Camera setup with WiFi needs a lot of work, understandable with version 1.0 of app. Took to Cozumel Scuba diving 10/28 - 11/7. Waterproof case did work and camera has only two buttons so easy to work underwater, that was only plus. The video 2.7K is not High quality (see attached Image) and is only 24fps. I was disappointed in the optics and the Black Lens line you get on 360 Underwater videography. The noticeable lens distortion along with the black edge is unforgivable in a 360 product. The Nikon Application for both the Apple and Android need significant improvements. Like upload to Facebook, YouTube, ability to edit clips and share to Instagram, among others. This is not even a consumer worthy product it should be kept in a Beta with better people providing feedback. I was so disappointed with this product that I had to return it to the store. This product is not ready to be release and should be put on production hold so Nikon can hopefully keep their reputation of a leader in photography. Sorry, but I felt I had to post to help others from making a mistake in purchasing this KeyMission 360 camera.

Camera video quality is 5 star hands down compared to Samsung 360 camera and the Thea Rioch camera. Only reason why I gave it a 3 star is because the wifi/Bluetooth is horrible. Takes for ever to pair took hours and I background in electronics. Once it's sync it's easy to connect but then the app is garbage it crash and freezes up and you will not have enough battery to send a video wifi/Bluetooth to your phone. The battery on the camera goes dead before you get video and it will be fully charged.

Received from Best Buy on release day. Had trouble pairing to iPhone 7+ and tried on an iPhone 7 and iPhone SE, no luck after numerous attempts. Tried pairing on iPad mini and paired right away with no issues. Determined that iPad was on iOS 10.01, but the phones that did not work were either on iOS 10.02 or 10.03. Installed iOS 10.1 which was released the same day, and it instantly paired on all phones with iOS 10.1. Recommend trying 10.1 if you are having issues.
Once paired, the camera was very easy to use. Turn it on and start recording. Videos look pretty good for 360, especially when viewed as intended on a cell phone in VR mode. It is not nearly as sharp as a GoPro flat video so in some ways video quality was a little disappointing. However, this will do what none of my other cameras will do, so I'm willing to give up a bit in quality.
The app works fine for triggering the camera, but downloading to a cell phone is hit or miss. Found it faster to download to a computer via the cable and then transfer to the phone (I used AirDrop). Download the computer application from Nikon. It works well, though is fairly simple.

Good build quality. The lenses are wide and capture nearly everything. The stitch quality is poor and easy to see the stitch line. It also has poor video quality at night. Best shots are during a clear sunny day, but exposure difference between the two lenses will create an obvious color and lighting difference between the two hemispheres. Save your money for a better VR camera such as the GoPro Fusion.

This camera is very easy to use. It produces very good videos and at times the stitch line is very hard to see. Not surprising, if things are close to the camera the stitch line becomes more obvious. One note is that it produces very large files. Get the largest memory card that you can afford.

I bought this camera to take 360 degree photos, which I also do with my Nikon D750 and Nodal Ninja tripod head. The Keymission 360 works, I had none of the app problems that others have reported. My problem with it is the quality of the image produced. Where the two fisheye images meet, the stitching together looks terrible. I tried to remove the plastic waterproof covers to see if this helped, and it did slightly, but the resulting image is still unacceptable. In video this is slightly less noticeable, but still there. So I will be returning and hoping Nikon does better on the next version.

In instances where you may have higher contrast between the two lenses, at the stitching point, you may see these seems. As you had noted, removing the waterproof covers (or keeping the covers free of hand prints) will help this out. We have updated both the camera's firmware - as well as the app - to address image quality and connection issues that some of our users have experienced with KeyMission 360.

I read the reviews, but figured I'd give it a try despite the poor reviews. The thing will not pair with my phone (iPhone 6s.) I went through the instruction book, I went through the link Nikon posted, I watched YouTube videos, I even considered summoning a shaman to cast a spell, no luck. The bluetooth connects no issue, the closest I got to connecting the wifi was a never ending spinning circle resulting in a camera overheating warning.
I tried for hours connecting, hitting "end pairing," disconnecting, forgetting networks, entering the "NikonKeyMission" password for the wifi, they just won't talk to each other.

Pre-ordered this camera because the product preview was impressive. Got it and after several frustrating retries I got the camera to connect to the Nikon app via Bluetooth. The connection between the camera and the iPhone worked for about 15 minutes then would not connect again! Had to reinstall the app and redo the connection several times then it finally connects. Not the best experience for a newly released product selling for $500.
The quality of the image is much to be desired. I tried to shoot some videos and take pictures outside when the sky was cloudy and the images were very dark. Adjusting the in-camera settings did not improve the quality. Transferring content from the camera to the phone never worked and at times the connection would freeze the camera and I would have to pull the battery.
I returned the camera because for the price, the out-of-box experience is terrible. I don't spend $500 to experiment, I need a product that works!
For those who want to try this camera, make sure you use a microSDXC UHS-I Class U-1 Memory Card or the camera will not function correctly. Also make sure you are using it is very bright lighting conditions or the shadows will be dark and the overall image will be dark.

After researching 360 cameras in this price range I went with the Nikon Mission 360. When I tried to pair this up with my phone it couldn't find it. I called their technical hot line and was finally told (on the 3rd call) that the camera wouldn't pair since Apple updated the IOS in November. It also kept turning itself on this lead to dead batteries. I wanted to like this camera but returned it. Maybe the next version will be the one to keep.

I bought this camera thinking that I should be able to over come some of the technical issues many have with the app and pairing with their smartphone. It worked, but it does take time to jimmy around with the settings. Having said that, its not great at trying to start and record immediately. Yes, you can use the hard buttons to start recording, but you are not able to have a live preview of what's going on. I hope a firmware upgrade fixes this. Great quality pictures though and good VR video.

After reading many existing reviews I was very skeptical of trying this camera. Now, after using and owning it for a few weeks, I am very happy with the purchase – it is a keeper! The functionality of the 360-degree view and the clarity of the video (on the highest 4K setting) is what sold me. The most difficult part was getting everything paired and connected. Nikon could do a much better job on the instructions – they are written from the view of someone who is already familiar with this camera and how to connect it, not from the view of someone who is new to this camera and needs to learn how to connect it.
For starters you need to have a memory card in the camera to complete the pairing / connecting process. If you do not, the pairing / connecting will fail every time and make the process very frustrating. Once I had the memory card installed I was able to pair without issue to my iPhone and my iPad. I was also able to connect via USB to my MacBook Pro. Connecting via the MacBook Pro yields the fastest transfer speeds. Bluetooth connectivity is too slow. There is also an option to connect via Wi-Fi that works better than Bluetooth, but still too slow.
Battery life is really good. I have used it a lot and still on the first battery. I did buy the accessory kit that came with an extra battery, but have yet to use it. Nikon does make an external battery charger for the EN-EL12 batteries this camera takes. The charger is a Nikon MH-65. A company called Watson also makes some nice 3rd party charges for this battery.
There are also some very nice 3rd party mounts for these types of cameras. I bought a few. They seem sturdy, work well, and are almost half the price of a Nikon mounting accessory.

I was foaming at the mouth for this Nikon 360... i waited and waited. I had such high hopes. I watched videos and scrubbed through the commercial footage they had online. I watched the video at the nikon kiosk... WHAT A LET DOWN. I had the Ricoh ThetaS and returned it so that I could purchase the 4k Keymission 360, however I am pretty disappointed with Nikon. It doesnt matter that it has higher resolution... it doesnt matter about the smaller form factor... it doesnt matter that it has swappable batteries... none of that matters if the the STITCHING software is horrible and none of that matters if the camera isnt easy to use. try again nikon.
Stitching: Bad, not useable
Ease of Use: bad, clunky, pairing is a joke,
Battery: poor battery life
Returned.I really hope they come out with a much better version of this soon. Before I invest in another 360 system.

The pairing process is somewhat of a pain. The setup requires both Bluetooth and WiFi. Image quality is good as far as 360's in this price range. Waterproof is a definite plus! And it comes with underwater lenses for a better image (refraction index changes underwater).

Do not use app

In summary: the camera is fantastic, the app however is a nightmare, and you have to disregard the app completely and not let it ruin your experience with the camera.
Do not use app. The app is an absolute nightmare. The way I use the camera is that I set it up using Bluetooth only, connected easily, I put a self timer on and made the video quality 4K. I now use the camera without he app and then connect it to the computer to transfer and view my photos with the Ricoh Theta app, and Facebook private post for viewing video.
It's an incredible camera, but not easy to use. If you don't have the confidence that you will take "the shot" then this camera is not for you. I think of it as a film camera, you cannot view your work until after the shoot. I shoot blind and hope that it turns out, and it usually does.

At first, the camera seemed like something awesome. After spending a half hour trying to pair the camera with my phone, I realized this might be a total pain. The software for this camera comes with very little useful documentation and I found myself searching the internet for any help. After a LOT of trial and error, I ended up returning the camera due to frustration. Perhaps later when they work out the "bugs" this will be a great product, but not right now.

I'm a big Nikon guy, but this camera was a fail for me. Straight out of the box, I was unable to pair it with my iphone 7. My family is in the market for our first action camera. Bought the gopro hero5 black and this. Just got back from vacation with the gopro (which performed great without a hitch). Haven't had any luck finding any real reviews on this camera prior to preorder. Only today, am i seeing online everywhere that pairing issues are tying up nikon customer service and most reviews are not positive. We're sticking with the gopro.

I pre-ordered this camera in total excitement after only playing around with the Ricoh Theta S.
My usage -
1.Majority - Outdoor Photospheres.
2. Indoor usage
3. Rarely did I use 360 video, was hoping to start using it with this.
Reality hit in about 30 minutes after unboxing.
1. Pairing with the phone app is nerve-wrecking. Nikon should stay away from apps or find better developers. [1 star]
2. I charged the battery fully for about 2 hours. 15 minutes of taking several snaps and it drank 50% of the battery. TERRIBLE [1 star]
3. Camera stitching was terrible around the edges. [1 star]
4. Outdoor full lighting was pretty good with everything in the center of the lens showing up perfectly while the periphery was just nothing more than a blur. Terrible depth of field adjustments. [1 star]
5. I loved how sturdy it was. I'm sure the shock proof would be of great help in the future. [3 stars]
6. Most of the functionality to control the camera is through the phone app which is by itself not bad, but lack of customization options is a deal breaker. HDR at the least should have been available.
7. Why do the pictures not automatically get tagged with a 360 XMP? Why should I use the software to edit the meta tag? Thats a really stupid move! [-2 stars]
The camera isn't entirely bad, if you don't care about details and just about 360 picture, then go ahead and buy it.
If you are invested and truly love photospheres, want to contribute to streetviews, or just love high quality photos all around, don't waste your time with this. Not at the moment of product release.
Yes i'm going to be returning it after 7 days of usage.

I updated the firmware first. Have not evaluated all the options yet. I seem to accidentally turn on the camera, not realize it and drain the battery when I need it to work. Recommend using a case for transport. The auto exposure does not fix exposure for both sides. You will see a sharp difference where stitched. Still figuring how to stream inside my network without putting it on the internet.

Camera is amazing. You can barely see the stitching between the front camera and the rear camera when viewing a video.
The App on the other hand is horrendous. It never syncs with the phone so the live preview almost never works. If Nikon could fix the app this camera would be a 10
