The MB-D12 Battery Grip is OEM designed for the Nikon D810, and therefore it is your best best for solid performance and reliability. Yes, there are cheaper "Chinese knockoffs" out there, but their reliability has not be tested by Nikon, and indeed there are cases of batteries exploding or melting in the cheaper quality imitations. My only complaint is that this battery grip is exorbitantly expensive, and that minimizes the satisfaction of owning it.

some photographers may decide to save money by buying the imitated version of the camera grip made in china hoping it is the same as the original one made by Nikon. wrong move, the one made by canon is very durable and it fit well with the camera, no adjustment. it is easy to use and all the buttons works well. what i like the most is it durability, when you hold it you can tell that it is not made out of cheap plastic. i love it.

Having the extra battery power is nice but the extra weight isn't really worth it unless your on a tripod.
Popping an extra battery in is easier and lighter.

I got this for free with the a D810. It has been helpful as it serves as an additional battery but I probably would not have bought this on its own there is no way I could have justified spending an additional $300.

The battery grip serves two functions: More power to operate the camera without changing batteries, and provide a greater counter-weight when using long zoom or heavy prime lenses. The OEM Nikon Grip succeeds on both counts.

Never really been a grip user but this one came free with my D810. It seems very well made and adds a nice capability when needed. At a full retail price of over $500 it is definitely not worth paying full price for.

I bought the grip because my D800E suffered from DBS but $429 for a battery grip for an out of production camera is just insanity.

If you own a d810, you definitely need to get this grip. Nothing better than the original oem grip. Don't go cheap and buy third party. Your camera depends on it.
