Customers commend the MB-D12 Battery Grip for its ability to double the battery life, making it a great choice for astrophotography. However, some customers find the full retail price of over $500 to be too expensive.

Only get this if it is part of a package, not worth it otherwise. Carry and extra battery, same difference.

Brand response from NikonStaff

If you are using an EN-EL15 battery in your MB-12 then please make sure that it is a Nikon brand EN-EL15 charged with a Nikon MH-25 or MH-25a charger. If using AA batteries please make sure you have fresh LR6 Alkaline, FR6 Lithium, or HR6 Ni-MH type AA batteries. Also, when using AA batteries be sure that your Battery Type setting, option d12 in the Custom Settings Menu, is set to the correct battery type. If the problem persists please call Nikon Support at 1-800-NikonUS.
