Optimum choice for birding

I think these are the perfect choice for birding! They are light enough to be easily carried all day. They have a 20 mm eye relief so that eyeglass wearers can easily see the entire field of view. The 7.2 degree field is wide enough to easily find birds (or watch sporting events). The 42 mm objectives gather more light than smaller binoculars and gives a 5 mm exit pupil for good viewing in dim light. The roof prism design makes them compact and easy to hold. 8x magnification is plenty... more magnification will make objects appear larger but also reduces the field of view and eye relief and makes them harder to hold steady, so that no more detail can actually be seen.
The quality is excellent. The optics are very sharp all across the field. The focusing mechanism is extremely smooth and precise. The waterproof design makes them useful in wet weather. The fully multicoated lenses improve light transmission. I like the rotating extendable eyecups better than rubber fold down ones. I can see the full field of view with my glasses on with ease when they are in the retracted position.
Some have complained that the lens caps can be easily lost, which is true. I prefer to leave the caps at home and carry the binoculars around my neck without the case so they are always ready for use. I only put the caps on when I don't plan to use the binoculars for a long time. The caps aren't really necessary even when the case is used.
I believe these are the best value for birding. Cheaper binoculars are definitely not as good, but spending much more gives only a marginal improvement. It's hard to go wrong with a Nikon. Even though these are made in China, they are made to Nikon's specifications and work great! I highly recommend them!

I bought this binoculars in November of 2021, when I was going on my first Safari in Kenya. I'd never owned a binocular before, and I wanted one that was easy to use ( no fuss and easy to focus). Once, I read the manual, it was easy to understand. I wanted something that wasn't heavy, as I would have it around my neck for hours at a time. The clarity is very good. I ducked one point because of the flimsy lens cap. It's too loose, and comes off easily. It could have been more snug. Going on my second Safari soon, and this binoculars will also be coming. Also the cost is very reasonable. I got it for around $100 on Black Friday. I recommend it.

My goal was to upgrade from a small light weight 10 power binoculars convenient for traveling to something with better resolution even though heavier and larger. I looked at 4 Nikon models and setttled on this one because 8 power was better than 10 power for steadiness, roof prisms provided more comfortable holding than poro prisms, and the much more expensive Monarch model didn't seem to be worth the additional money. I am pleased with the construction quality, image quality and performance of this one. The size and weight is acceptable.

These binoculars are so easy to use! It is easy to find my subject and easy to focus on that subject. I have used other binoculars that aren't nearly as easy to spot what I'm trying to focus on. These are sturdy without being too heavy. The range is perfect for my uses. I am very happy with my binoculars!

I bought these for a fall trip to the North Carolina mountains and wanted something better than my old Tasco binoculars. What a difference these made. The clarity was phenomenal, the magnification was just what I was looking for, lightweight and they were very easy to adjust. Great purchase.

I bought the binoculars for my coming trip to national parks. After received it, I am not surprised with Nikon's build quality and optical quality, just similar as all Nikon cameras I have owned. It is light enough for the travel and with manageable image stability due to the optimal magnification. I believe it will be the powerful tool in the coming travel.

I needed to replace an older pair of Nikon Travelite Binoculars with a higher magnification binoculars. The Prostaff 3S 8X42 were just right for what I required. Small size but plenty of magnification for Birds & Wildlife. Easy to use and lightweight.

If you're looking for quality birding binos (or most any other purpose) without spending 300 bucks these are the real deal. Excellent binos! With a close focus rating of 10 feet (or so) they're perfect for catching the finer details of our feathered friends on your backyard feeder. Seriously, you can focus as close as 10 feet and the image is super clear. And since they're waterproof we also use them kayaking for general wildlife viewing or whatever need we might have. They feel very well built, have great clarity, are easy to focus, have a large eye relief (for those with eyeglasses) ... Highly recommend!

Binoculars a "must" on safari

While in Kruger National Park in South Africa, I had the most remarkable experience of being able to look directly into the eyes of a young leopard who was perched very high up in a tall tree. That moment alone made the purchase of these binoculars worth every penny that I spent on them. Even though many of the amazing birds and wildlife that we had the privilege of seeing on safari were, relatively speaking, close to our vehicle, having these binoculars made the up-close experienc all the more intimate. Nikon's 8 x 42 binocular was perfect for our purposes.

I bought these to bring along for hike and other trips where my bigger pair was too bulky and ended up using it as my main binoculars. These have excellent clarity and zoom for their size and a friend even commented how it's like watching stuff in HD (or maybe just so new and clean at the time).

My wife loves bird watching and recently broke her old pair of binoculars. I bought her these as a replacement and she really likes them. She says that they are easier to focus than her old ones were and are also lighter making them easier to hold for a prolonged time.

Very happy with these Nikon binoculars used primarily for bird watching. Very bright and clear optics with a good field of view for their size and magnification. Lightweight and easy to focus and zoom. Also love that the lens cap attaches to the strap when not in use so we don’t loose them.

This is my second pair of these. My first were stolen from my trunk, and I considered going to another brand. At the Best Buy store, I was able to try out both the Monarch and the Prostaff, and I loved the weight, the clarity of the object, and so I purchased the same kind of binoculars to replace my stolen ones. I can't recommend these enough. I love them!
