This camera is amazing and nothing comes close at this price point. The body is sturdy and feels great in my hands. There are so many settings but it's very customizable to work they way you do. Nikon has updated the firmware since it first came out and has been adding even more features. Autofocus is lightning fast and accurate. Works great on a gimbal as well for smooth video. Built in wifi and bluetooth. Only thing missing is built in GPS, although it can pull location from your phone through bluetooth. If you are going to be doing N-log video, prepare to spend another $100-200 on a fast memory card.

Purchased this for my wife for Christmas to bring her into the Mirrorless world. Had preformed The 180-600 for her as well after the 200-500 had some issues in Scotland this summer. Personally I switched from my Sony A1 this year to Nikon mostly to get into a 800mm lens and I was tired of the costly express a cards. Seeing the Z9 in action and knowing then Z8 is almost the same in a smaller body, you can’t go wrong. Some days I wish I had the smaller size of the Z8 when traveling but love the vertical grip of the Z9 after having it for a year. Eitherway for the price and specs on this camera you can’t go wrong with this camera. Though the cost on it is not cheap, nothing these days are. Yes it may not shoot 40fps like the canon r6ii but have to be honest at 20fps, the amount of pictures you can capture give you far enough choices. If not spin the unit to 30 or 60fps in jpeg and blow through some frames. Add to the fact you can use an sd cards and the D850 batteries and express b, this was a good choice by Nikon. Unless something happens with the body unexpectedly, this will be my wife’s camera for the next decade (sorry Nikon, even going to a global shutter at some point, the maturity of the stacked BSI won’t be a draw to change).

This IS the camera to get! Amazing autofocus, image quality, and so fast! I shot a wedding more recently with it and it was so impressive. It's a little more beefy of a body than others but also feels better in the hand. Nikon ergonomics are some of it not the best in the market! Then you add what it packs in and its the best buy on the market too! Just buy it!

I’m giving the Z8 4 stars overall. The viewfinder is relatively low resolution compared to its competitors and it’s definitely a camera Nikon designed to get their “more experienced” users to move over to mirrorless from the D800 DSLR line. All of the dedicated buttons are there as well as the weight. The image quality though is very good for a stacked sensor and it is great companion to the Z 180-600mm zoom lens for wildlife. Just about any function you want is there in the menus and Nikon has consistently improved the functionality of the camera over time through firmware updates.

As a photographer and content creator, this camera gives me everything I need. In addition, with the 8K video potential I have more than I will probably use, but it is there if I want it. The power bank feature is really nice. It gives me the ability to save multiple profiles for different types of shooting. This camera is fantastic. Nikon his this out of the park!

The Z8 is a truly impressive camera. It is far ahead of the Z7II on every front other than size and weight. You also will not get all of its advances in a smaller body anyway. Quite frankly, it mostly is a smaller Z9. Auto focus, pro controls, refined white balance and exposure options, and extremely responsive EVF (among other things) all make for an exceptional experience. I do landscapes and architecture, not wildlife, but as a test, took some shots out of the box of some hummingbirds, and it nailed auto focus and exposure almost every time. There is nothing about using the camera that has left me unimpressed. Here, however, is the problem. As of 6/23/2023, it is also part of a voluntary recall due to a problem with the camera mount. Looking at the advisory page, it is also easy enough to figure out the problem potentially affects at least the first 10,000 serial numbers. Unless you want to buy a camera and then immediately send it in for repair, I would suggest waiting at least a month until they cycle in new stock. Mine has already been returned and will be re-purchased at a later date. Again, it is an amazing camera, I just expect something better on the QC front for $4000.

I have only used the camera for less than a month, but I am greatly enjoying it thus far. It's a marked upgrade compared to the D500 I've been using for a while. If you're a Nikon user, as one can imagine, the UX/UI are both seamless switches that it'll be easy to pick up. It's comparable to many flagships - especially if you're focusing primarily on photo. If you're going to be taking photos in dark areas with flashing lights or extremely quick moving objects (e.g., propellers), because the Z8 does not have global shutter, you will have distortion. Beyond that, overall, this is a phenomenal camera and recommend it!

I have us many nikon DSLR over the years. My last one was the D750. I was waiting for something like the Z8 before i made the switch to mirrorless. It handles well. Comfortable to hold. I got big hand and the other nikon options grip are a bit too small for my liking. I love the 120hz view finder. An important feature for me. Great for video capture although my primary use is photography. So much more i could day but there are plenty of reviews with more details out there. I have been very satisfy with the image quality, fast focusing and ergonomics.

Blown Away by the Nikon Z8 — Professional Quality

I’ve been using the Nikon Z8 for several months now and it’s hands-down the best camera I’ve ever owned. The image quality is insane. Crisp details, rich tones, and colors that feel true-to-life. What really impressed me is how it handles low light without falling apart, and the autofocus is fast and reliable. I mostly shoot editorial-style portraits and romantic cinematic content, and this camera elevates every single frame. I paired it with the NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.8 lens, and even though I plan to upgrade to the 1.2 soon, I’m already seeing stunning depth and creamy bokeh. If you’re serious about photography or content creation, this is the camera to grow with. It’s an investment, but the results speak for themselves. Highly recommend — I’m in love!

I've been shooting Nikon for the past 14 years and this is easily the best body I've used. After shooting with the D600, D610 and D810 for years I moved on to my first mirrorless, the Z6ii which is also an incredible camera. The Z6ii has become a great backup camera in my kit after working with the Z8. It has the feel of my D810 and it simply doesn't miss. You hear a lot of people talk about how incredible the autofocus is and eye tracking. They're not kidding. This camera is simply on another level. I highly recommend this piece of equipment.

Great camera. Even with a battery grip it is still comfortable to handle. Upgraded/in addition to my Z7. Biggest plus for me is the adjustable frames per second when it comes to wildlife, birding, planes, trains and automobiles. Though with low light, you have to up the ISO a bit. Not a big deal when editing raw photos. In comparison to my old D500. This takes the cake for sure. Very impressed with this camera. If you're a nikon person, know the operating system, I would 100% recommend it. The z9 looks impressive, however looking at specs, you're pretty much getting the Z9 in the Z8 for less of a purchase cost.

Best value Nikon camera in 2023

The best value Nikon camera so far. The Z6ii and Z7ii are great too, but their autofocus capabilities can’t compete with major players like Sony and Canon. When it comes to Z8, Z8 autofocus is quick and spot on, maybe slightly behind Sony A7R5, but tough to tell real differences in day to day use. Compare to A7R5 or canon R5, the Nikon Z8 stack sensor is a winner, 20 frames raw per second is the best you can find in this 3500 to 4000 usd price range.

This camera has replaced my D850 and my D500. I wasn't sure it would outperform focusing on birds on my D500 after a disappointing experience with the Z6ii, but this camera way outperforms my earlier cameras and the sharpness and clarity of my photos is amazing. I am using my F mount lenses with the FTZ ii and they perform perfectly. This is a fantastic camera and I really enjoy using it.

The new Nikon Z8 is a powerhouse in the world of digital photography. As an amateur hobbyist photographer, I had the privilege of exploring the capabilities of this camera, and it has truly left an indelible mark on my photographic journey. At the heart of the Nikon Z8 lies its 60-megapixel full-frame sensor, delivering nothing short of breathtaking image quality. The dynamic range is exceptional, capturing intricate details in both highlights and shadows. The low-light performance is stellar, allowing for crystal-clear shots even in challenging conditions. Colors are rendered with a richness and accuracy. The Z8 autofocus system is lightning-fast and incredibly accurate. With 493 focus points covering almost the entire frame, the camera effortlessly locks onto subjects, whether they're in motion or still. The eye-tracking feature, especially for both humans and animals, is a game-changer for portrait and wildlife photographers. The Z8 excels not only in still photography but also in videography. With 8K video recording at 30fps and 4K at 120fps, the camera opens up new possibilities for filmmakers and content creators. The Nikon Z8 stands as a testament to Nikon's commitment to pushing the boundaries of imaging technology. I am very happy with my purchase.

The first one I bought ended up having to be exchanged due to some odd issue where the camera would crash and then have to restart. I exchanged it for a second one and it has gone about 3000 shots so far without a single issue. The camera itself is absolutely absurdly amazing. It is single-handedly the most impressive camera I have ever used. The autofocus is able to nab birds in flight easily. At 45MP, it gives tons of room to crop. The file sizes are also better than you would expect for the resolution of the camera. Honestly, this is essentially the ultimate camera.
