You’ll need some extra counter space, but not a lot. The flip up design is great but not aesthetically pleasing, that’s subjective though. As far as its ability to do what it says, everything we’ve tried so far came out great. I recommend giving it a shot.

First I'll note that we had our first one replaced within warranty period because one of the fans sounded like it was going to destroy itself. Hard grinding/rubbing noise after several months, which is not great to speak to quality, but Ninja did stand by the warranty without much trouble. I think I sent them a video for proof. As for features, its a much better oven than air fryer. I love to bake pizzas and smaller items in it to save energy over larger oven. But anytime I air fry something i find it's never cooked all the way. I can bur things, or under cook things.

      Hi AddyGreen,

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback about the Ninja Foodi Convection Toaster Oven. We’re glad to hear you’ve enjoyed its baking functionality and appreciated the warranty support. However, we’re sorry to hear about your experience with the air frying results and the initial fan issue.

Love the Air Fryer. Easy to use, the features are great. Appreciating all the functionality it offers for cooking, baking, etc. Definitely worth it if you have a big family. I can throw a family sized pack of meat in there, so no more cooking batches at a time. The cleanup is great! A few wipes to the sides, top, and back and you’re done. The air fryer rack, sear plate are quick to clean as well. The only thing I noticed is that there’s oil (from the food) leaking out of the back of machine? I use the sear plate as instructed for anything oily /greasy cooking but I haven’t trouble shooted aka googled that issue yet. The BEST PART? it flips up and frees up counter space.

Air fryer function is just a waste. It won’t make the food crispy enough like a normal air fryer. Temperature inside is always less then what the display is set at. May be I am not using it correctly. Looking for suggestions if any. Cleaning is the worst part. In 2 months inside of oven has covered with oil.

Black Friday sale. Bought this to replace older toaster oven that was big, bulky & too close to cabinets. The old oven cooked unevenly, had obnoxious beeping dials, loud beeping when done & was so hot it was yellowing the ceiling. This unit "looks" so much smaller but it holds a lot. And thank goodness it's further away from the cabinets. Surprised our old toaster oven didn't melt the under cabinet lights! Plus wow, it cooks SO fast! I'm still on a learning curve as far as figuring out cook time. The air fryer works awesome. Everything crunchy & evenly heated. Just be careful & watch food until you figure it out. I've cooked things a little more crunchy than I wanted even though I shorten the time. The cook time seems to be almost half the time of food directions. I bought a wood cutting board that's made specifically to sit on top of this oven to hopefully disperse the heat to the sides more just in case, don't want the ceiling getting yellow again after painting. Plus I can put stuff on top of toaster oven, even when using (seldom going to flip up). I even had Christmas decorations on it.

Let me first say, I know someone who has this exact air fryer oven, and they have been enjoying it since it came out. I mention this first, because it has been running without fail for awhile now. And they use it for many things. My experience with this is short, so far, but fabulous. I was taken back by the very large size of this one, it's like the size of a medium to large pizza box maybe, and not really appearing as tall as it really is. Once you take the racks out and see the available space, you see a few things that you might not have realized were important. Previous experience with air fryers, and I've had a few now, has been okay, but one pet peeve I had was that when you use the basket for french fries as an example, you must stack them up tall but cannot spread them out. Even if you move them around during the cooking cycle, there is still an unevenness in the heating. With this one, everything is able to be spread out, and that has helped big time with this concern. This has a sear plate, which is also a griddle. That is a plus! And you can use the multitude of accessories that it comes with (rack, basket, sear plate) in different locations to do different things. The sear plate is heavy, but is built with a set of rails that prevent it from being wobbly if you move it out enough to turn things over. Yes, I know, I've had to remove the tray on other models, put it on a heat proof pad, then flip stuff, then put it back in again. The risk of spilling, dropping, etc. this has always been a worry to me, so this addresses this concern. And I'm truly grateful for this and some other things. Make no mistake, this unit gets HOT, as they all do, but even more so on the left side of the unit, and the glass. The fan is on the right side of the oven, so it is the coolest area of the unit. If it had another fan on the left side, it would cool faster, but that is a wish list thing. Ninja however, thought of something very important, and it has bothered me for quite some time, is that they realized these things get hot and the risk of burns is significant. To combat this, they display the word "HOT" prominently in the display, so there is no mistake that the unit was recently used, hasn't cooled off enough, and it is HOT. Bless you Ninja, this will save countless burns, I am sure! The fan will run and the word HOT will display until it is really cooled off. It says in the manual it'll say the world "FLIP" when it is ready to be flipped up, which is a great feature by the way, but I missed seeing that. The ability to flip this up and out of the way is a huge feature. This allows this larger footprint machine to sit out of the way until needed. I don't have a large kitchen, by today's larger home standards, so I value each bit of countertop real estate as extremely valuable. This works perfectly. An oven large enough to do a grocery store fresh, or frozen pizza, with the ability to be flipped up and out of the way until needed. Bravo! There is also cord management on the back of the unit. Two devices that hold the cord in place and keep it from getting too hot from the metal on the back of the unit. NOTE: Please, remove the cardboard from the back of the unit before using. Yes, it will be easy to miss and you don't want to leave that on there. I almost missed it when unpacking, in my male way of jumping right into using something and reading directions later. My wife saw it and prevented me from creating a problem for us. There is a nice light inside the oven, so you will be able to see what is going on in there. I will say, there is NOT a switch to halt cooking while the door is open, which is another wish list item. But this is a smaller thing, I know it is running, and can stop it at any time. The door has a lovely LARGE handle on the left side of the unit and the door does not feel flimsy. Thank you for this, I always worry with these that the door will just fly off the hinges and fall/break. Cooking is much like you would expect, but does have some oomph to it that you may not be used to. It is 1800 watts, so it can kick butt when you need it to or want it to. I found some things that I used to know how to cook in an air fryer, cooking faster and more evenly. There is a turbo bake option that will blow you away. Plus, the dual heater really does speed things up and makes things cook more evenly. When using the sear plate (which you may use more often than you realize), it will do a preheat. You must do the preheat for it to work the way it should. The display will show you the word preheat and a count up to the time when it is ready to start cooking. There are very intuitive buttons and a kind of smart dial to do what you want to do, along with a timer button to set the minutes, and a temp button to adjust the temperature, both the use of the dial after being pressed. Very easy and no need to read the manual to know how to use. I would recommend reading the manual, and the included cook book, to get an idea on where to place racks, which racks or basket to use, and how long and what settings to use. This is way more than a simple toaster oven, and can do many things. It is also a toaster, which can hold 6 halves of a bagel, or 3 bagels sliced and laid out as halves, whichever is easier to envision. So, I would say, for the money, and what is out there now, this is a really smart choice. The controls are off the side, not above the oven door, which is a dead end with other types of units. Once you open that door, the heat kills the display/controls - but not with this one. This was well thought out.
