Great look. Color was on point. The problem is item is clunky, heavy and it has a seemingly smaller hold capacity than indicated. The item was returned.

Rethinking the ice cooler

Leave it to the people at Shark/Ninja to come up with a new twist on something that has been around for years. They decided to somewhat reinvent the cooler. The new idea here solves a problem we all know. It’s hard to keep the things you want cool and dry from being cool and wet. Their answer is a separate dry drawer below the ice-filled cooler compartment.
The FrostVault cooler is attractive and very well made. It’s also strong and the prefect height to sit on. Both the top lid and drawer securely latch. As far as ice retention is concerned, it doesn’t seem to be in quite the category as that big name brand, but I’d guess the drawer system requires more from your ice. If it’s precooled and kept relatively full, your ice should easily last 2-3 days. The trade off is that your eggs, bacon, lunch meats and such aren’t going to be soggy and swimming in ice water.
I have the 30 qt version. It’s a great size for picnics and such, but I’d suggest the 50 qt unit if you want this to be your go-to camping cooler. The smaller one weighs about 20 lbs. empty, so when filled with ice, drinks, and whatever, it gets a bit heavy. The molded in handles are big and sturdy, but there are no wheels, so it’s a lift. With the bigger unit, it really becomes a two person carry … at least for me. Ninja put the same slip resistant pads on the bottom they use on many of their appliances, and this is a mixed blessing. It’s great that won’t mar your floor or table, and it stays put while travelling. However, it also doesn’t want to easily slide in and out of the vehicle. Wheels and folding handles might be a good option.
It’s a great unit, and I can easily recommend it. No more soggy sandwiches or chocolate bars. It’s a true rethinking and improvement on a basic, everyday item.

This is the best cooler I have ever used.
Overall design is quite nice, it looks like a premium heavy duty cooler. Handles are nice and large enough to tie down with bungees. The latches are easy to open and close and feel secure.
While I can't attest to whether it can hold ice for 5 days, it definitely holds ice for 2 days easily.
Now to the feature that really makes this the best cooler out there - the "FrostVault Dry Zone". This is a drawer that pulls out of the cooler that keeps things dry and at fridge temperatures. This is great for cheeses, meats, sandwiches, etc.... It saves space by not having to puts items that you want to keep dry in separate containers or bags and it stays cool as long as the ice in the cooler isn't completely melted.
Cleaning is also easy as the drawer pulls completely out and there is a drain on the side as well to get get rid of the melted ice.
A couple things to keep in mind, the cooler is on the heavier/bulkier side for the capacity due to the thick insulation used. This is the tradeoff that is necessary to achieve the long ice retention.
I am looking forward to next summer to get some real use out of this cooler!
Beefy cooler with cold dry storage and great latch

This cooler is the beefiest ice chest I've ever owned. It is a larger cooler while not offering the largest capacity but it certainly does better at keeping the ice longer than my trusty old Coleman. The latch on the Frost Vault is secure without being cumbersome to open and close. My 8yo can open and close it without issue where as they had difficulty opening and closing the t latches of other high end coolers we seen in stores. I also prefer the Ninja latch over the rubber t latches that will start 2 break down over the years of use/uv exposure. The dry zone is great for items that should be kept cool but u want to keep dry. It is recommened to fill w/15lbs of ice to keep temps optimal which will leave room for upto 20 cans or the equivalent of other food items. The empty space (of any) should be packed out with a towel to fill the void of air. The lack of wheels make the fully laoded cooler heavy, but a foldable hand truck makes it easier to move around. The drain on the side makes it easy to drain out excess water and the heavy duty handles can double as tie downs for the cooler. The dry zone drawer can also be easily removed to clean if needed. I look forward to years of service this cooler can be put to use on camping trips and other adventures.

Love this little guy! this cooler has a great feature that seperates it form the rest. I own several other name brand coolers, but this one it my favorite. Its a day cooler that serves many functions and make life easier for me. My son plays sports and we are on the go most weekends. This cooler saves me having to pack multiple cooler/bags.
The unit works as you would expect. Its very rugged, and a easily portable size. There is a slight bit of weight but MUCH lighter than my other branded type I own. So, it works well. Has all the features you would expect, latch is a single unit(not multiple rubber things!). intergrated hard handles, lockable if desired.
But the star of this unit is the food drawer. This is a COOLED area that stays dry! No more ziplock bag that you hope doesn't open. Or ICE burned snacks. The draw is awesome! It keeps everything cool at fridgetemps(40 degrees or so). But all while staying DRY! It has its own slide latch to keep from opening but easily one handed access.
I expect many uses from this unit. Its well constructed and at 35qt. Its the right size for a day out on the baseball Diamond!

I love the versatility of this cooler. Packed with ice it stays cold for days. The drawer keeps things cold and dry. It’s seen more usage than any cooler I’ve ever had. At the house I use it around the BBQ. I can set it up early in the day until I’m ready to fire up the grill. Dry rubs and spices are within an arm’s reach. On short day trips, the drawer keeps sandwiches dry while the cooler section holds plenty of cans. With ice I’ve had 24 cans in it.
On a camping trip it really worked great. The drawer kept food cold, it was a lifesaver to keep other incidentals that needed to be kept cool like medications.
The pads on the bottom stop any sliding in the car. With an empty weight of roughly 20 pounds, it can get a little heavy fully loaded. It has large handles, and I'd suggest a second person if you're going any distance with it. It has a nice drain plug on it for easy cleanup. The only thing to make this even better, would be wheels and a pull handle.
For me it was time to upgrade to a more functional cooler. I can strongly recommend this one.

"Durable but Heavy Cooler with Limited Portability

The Ninja - FrostVault 30qt Hard Cooler with Dry Zone is a robust and well-constructed cooler that excels in keeping items cold, particularly in the freezer compartment. Upon receiving the cooler, I was impressed by its solid build quality, though it is notably heavy. As an eco-conscious consumer, I was disappointed to find styrofoam packaging, which I would prefer to avoid.
In terms of performance, the cooler effectively maintains low temperatures in the freezer section, making it reliable for keeping items frozen for extended periods. However, I would caution against storing perishable items like lunch meats in the "fridge" section, as it may not maintain a sufficiently low temperature to prevent bacterial growth.
The cooler's usability is generally good, with compartments that are easy to access and organize. However, its weight and lack of rolling capability make it challenging to transport, especially when fully loaded. This cooler is not for the faint-hearted, as it can easily exceed 50 pounds when packed with ice, drinks, and food. The dry zone feature, while a nice selling point, did not prove particularly useful for my needs, as I have always managed with traditional iced areas in coolers without issues.
The durability of the Ninja - FrostVault is exceptional, with a rugged build that withstands various conditions. However, the handles could be problematic for some users due to their lack of grip, which could make carrying the cooler more difficult.
In terms of capacity, the 30qt size may be limiting for larger families or groups. As a family of five, I found the inner storage space to be smaller than expected, which may not meet the needs of those requiring more storage.
Overall, the Ninja - FrostVault 30qt Hard Cooler with Dry Zone is a durable and effective cooler for keeping items cold, but its weight and lack of portability features may be a drawback for some users. The dry zone feature is a nice addition, but its practical use may vary depending on individual needs.
We truly appreciate your feedback and the time you spent writing your review. We're sorry to hear that your experience has not been the best and there are aspects we could improve in your Ninja FrostVault. Really loving the Ninja FrostVault 30qt cooler. In fact, I already gave away two older coolers because I know I’ll never need them again.
As you would expect, being a Ninja product it is really well made. I mean this thing is solid! I like the fact that it is so tall and not necessarily long like many coolers. Makes it much easier to put in my car. The hinges don’t feel cheap or like they will brake. Aside from the main latch, there is also a sliding lock for the dry storage drawer. Also, I really like the blue color 🙂.
The main compartment is deep, but it is a little deceiving from looking at it from the outside. The inside goes as deep as the drawer. Understandably this is so as to allow room for the drawer and the ice keeps what ever is in the drawer cool from above. This isn’t a problem at all, but just keep this in mind when looking at the photos of it.
The dry storage drawer is the big draw to this cooler and it works great. We make several trips every summer where we are always looking for a way to keep some baked goods cool but away from the ice & dry. This easily will do the trick. It’s a simple idea, but a good one. I fully expect to be using this Ninja cooler for many years to come.

I am usually a Yeti guy so was a little apprehensive about purchasing the Frost Vault but so far it has exceeded my expectations! Nice design, light weight but also very sturdy like a smaller Yeti hardside cooler. We used it on our most recent camping trip and it worked really well. Surprisingly fit a good amount of drinks and food in the Dry Zone. Not too heavy and was pretty easy to carry.
Really like the Dry Zone feature. As we normally travel with the kids, we are always in the need for snacks and sandwiches. When we pack in other coolers these snacks tend to get soggy or smooshed. The Dry Zone keeps these items separate from ice and moisture. It held ice really well even during a hot Saturday on the Beach. I dropped it once and i dont think it go dinged up or scratched.
I just sprayed it down with a hose to clean - I'd really recommend this cooler if your are going out to enjoy a nice day out tailgating, camping or a trip to the beach. I think it's a perfect cooler for families with little ones!

I wasn't sure exactly how to test a cooler when receiving it at the start of the fall... Well, I got a 15 lb bag of ice as they recommended and figured I'd see how long things will stay cold while just having this in my apartment.
Well, I put a thermometer into the main compartment after putting in all of the ice and about 20 cans of soda. After 2.5 days, it was still about 39 degrees in the cooler and it was probably 33% ice. I moved the thermometer to the dry drawer and that was also 39 degrees. So, out of direct sunlight you can expect everything to stay cold for a couple of days. It's also nice to have the dry storage area rather than having to worry about putting things into plastic bags to stay dry.
When it's time to empty it out and clean it, all you need to do is unscrew the drain on the side to let it drain without having to lift a huge container of water. Then, you can just wipe it down.
All in all, this is a great cooler that works very well, and at a fraction of the price of a Yeti or Rtic.

This is my review for the Ninja - Frost Vault 30qt Hard Cooler with Dry Zone - in the color: Lakeshore Blue.
This cooler reminds me in the same style/look of a more EXPENSIVE, higher quality big brand cooler for a fraction of the price!
This cooler fits perfectly in my trunk- I travel for work occasionally and I also take road trips as well—This is perfect for me!!
In regards to the coolers weight- I want to say it’s not too heavy (for me at least)
SUPER easy to clean, which is a plus. I do not have to worry about stains like you would with traditional soft-shell coolers.
The “Dry Zone” drawer/compartment on this cooler is soooo great - perfect for my actual lunch and I do not have to worry about my items getting soggy or wet-- I have never seen this done with any other cooler.
The build on this cooler seems pretty durable, storage capacity is enough for ice and cans or water bottles
I really do wish the cooler had wheels, and a longer handle to pull but overall, I absolutely recommend!

The Ninja - FrostVault 30qt Hard Cooler with Dry Zone is a very nice, advanced cooler with a truly unique design. It is very sturdy and has great ice retention but is a little bit on the heavy side even when completely empty. This is the only slight drawback I have noticed and it is something that I suppose should be expected given how well-built it is and how great of a job it does keeping things cool.
One of the most unique and cool things about the Ninja FrostVault cooler is its FrostVault Technology and Dry Zone. The FrostVault Technology takes the cold generated from the ice in the main compartment and transfers it to keep items cold and dry in the Dry Zone. This is a very clever design and really comes in handy when you have items like food that you don’t want to get wet from the ice but which still need to remain cool to stay fresh.
Given the size and weight of the cooler, I expected the main compartment to be a little bit bigger than it is and the addition of wheels and a collapsible handle like a suitcase has would have been a nice addition, but I still think the Ninja - FrostVault 30qt Hard Cooler with Dry Zone is a very nice cooler and I do recommend it.

This thing feels solid and has that ‘built like a tank’ feel to it.
The lid latching mechanism is easy to engage and disengage, and you can clearly feel when it’s properly latched. It creates a better than average seal, at least compared to other coolers I have. The lid isn’t intended to be leak proof, but it’s pretty darn close. It will leak water from the hinge side IF you tilt it back that far, but it isn’t going to leak water on you if you have it tilted towards the front. As long as you don’t tilt it too far backwards, you’re not going to get a cold surprise while carrying it somewhere.
The Dry-Zone drawer finally solves a problem we’ve frequently encountered when you have those one or two smaller items that you just don’t want to get wet - sliced cheese immediately comes to mind for me. We usually just put something like that in a zip-lock freezer bag, which works 99% of the time, but then there’s that one time where the bag doesn’t get sealed and you end up with soggy cheese. Nobody in their right mind should enjoy soggy cheese. The FrostVault solves this problem with a decently sized drawer that’s located directly beneath the main compartment. I questioned how cold it would actually be, but it has maintained a temperature that’s just a couple of degrees below that of the main compartment. And it’s 100% dry! For those times when you don’t need the dry storage, you can still just put a few beers in there and they’ll stay nice and chill. The drawer is also pretty easy to remove for cleaning - just extend it, tilt up, and remove.
The drain plug screws in, rather than just relying on friction, so you shouldn’t accidentally jar it open and end up with a wet floor. That said, it will leak if you don’t have it screwed all the way in, so you still have to check it.
It also lives up to its claims of keeping ice, as well as sub 40 degree temps in the Dry Zone, for days. I loaded it with 12 pounds of ice, which is slightly less than the recommended 15 pounds, and it still kept temperature for a solid 5 days. Nice.

The Ninja FrostVault Hard Cooler with dry zone is a great alternative for anyone looking to get a well insulated and rugged hard cooler. The Ninja FrostVault is an excellent competitor to pricier "fad" coolers that are out there. While Ninja may not have the full ecosystem of accessories for their cooler, if all you need is a well built, well insulated, and rugged cooler then this is the right choice for you.
I appreciate the built in dry zone featured in this cooler that allows you to put items that you need cooled, but would prefer not to get wet from the ice, in a latchable drawer that keeps them cool and dry. This is great for sauces, sandwiches, and many other items that may not be able to deal with getting wet.
This is a very well insulated cooler that will keep your items cold for a very long time without melting your ice daily. I recently went on a 3 day trip and didn't even have to add more ice after the initial fill-up. The only downside of the increased insulation in this cooler is that it is particularly large due to the amount of insulation within the cooler, this makes it bulkier than cheaper coolers at this same size, but you will definitely be able to appreciate the extra cooling that the insulation provides. Ninja puts the additional bulk to good use with locking points and tie-down points included on the cooler allowing you to safely secure this cooler just about anywhere.

We didn't need another cooler, but I was intrigued by the cooling drawer in this one. One thing that has always bugged me on camping trips was items such as American cheese slices getting wet and soggy in the melting ice. I had tried putting it in gallon sized bags, but eventually they all leak. This is the perfect solution for that. We placed 14lbs of ice in the cooler on Sunday afternoon; come Friday evening, there was still about 3lbs of ice left. I have many of the other name brand coolers of a similar style; most of those say they hold ice that long, but never last more than 2-3 days. So to say I was impressed is an understatement. The drawer is also as neat as it sounds. It really did stay nice and cold and dry for days also! The color of this cooler is also appealing. I also really like the style of latches on this cooler. Most coolers in this style have the hook and ball rubber latches you have to pull down into a grove. This can be difficult l, especially one handed. This cooler has plastic breakover latches. These you can latch one handed. The handle style is super comfortable for carying.

I'm loving this cooler. Weighing in at about 20lbs dry and empty, it's extremely portable and easy to carry. The cold drawer is so handy and keeps stuff form getting wet and soggy. I tested it a couple of ways. 20 cans and 15lbs of ice as stated. Cold drawer held between 40 and 43 degrees F. Ambient temp between 65 and 80F. Ice was still in main compartment after 3 days. Drain did leak a little until I re-set the gasket and tightened down. Be aware of this. Main compartment held at 39 degrees. Thermometers are generic and not calibrated, your results may vary. On hot 90deg+ days I would not expect this cooler to hold quite as well or long, especially if not shaded.
Used the way I like to- Frozen 16oz water bottles plus 20 pre chilled cans of soda did slightly better on the cooling factor. Main compartment held between 36-37 degrees. Drawer held at 39-43 degrees. Bottles on the bottom of tha mian compartment were still mostly frozen after 3 days. Bottles on top were about 80% thawed out. This is definitely a full weekend cooler for keeping drinks and other things cold.

Coolers have come a long way from the days of simple design and construction with a single hinge for the lid. This new cooler from Ninja takes a unique approach to cooler design. Their frost vault design is a new take on new cooler manufacturing. I was able to use it a few times and found it to have a lot more pros than cons.
Historically, roto-molded coolers get a bad wrap because of their inherent weight. This model from Ninja sits right in the middle when you consider dry or empty weight. Not the lightest model but also not the heaviest. We do have a few coolers and some even have wheels to make moving them around easier. But this style of cooler while the weight is a trade off, temperature retention is the gain.
Immediate observations is build quality is aligned with the price and the closure design will function long term. Factoring in both the main compartment and closure for the drawer.
Pros: Ice retentions and temperature regulation were spot on with advertised. I even left it on purpose in the direct sunlight while at home just to try and accelerate the cooler temperatures. It held its own against other brands I own like Rtic and Canyon. High five for design and construction that maintains temperature. I did pre-cool each cooler and keep them all similarly packed to compare performance. All the coolers were similar sized. This should be the single biggest factor in purchasing and this cooler delivers.
One thing to consider is the design with the top primary compartment and the drawer design does force the dimensions to be different than most coolers in the the 30qt space. This design is more tall and skinny vs. the traditional rectangle design. One concern I had was fitting under the tonneau cover of my truck bed, this passed with a few inches to spare.
The grab handles are robust and super handy when you have a fully loaded cooler and need to carry it either by yourself or with another person. These handles double as great tie down or anchor points to ensure where ever you store this during transport that it says in one spot. This also has rubber foot pads to help keep it from sliding around. Also the main compartment has a drain plug for easy removal of melted ice.
Another pro is that the frost vault drawer does remove completely from the cooler for proper cleaning.
Cons: Sizing of the drawer was just small enough to make you constantly play cooler Tetris to make items fit in and still allow the drawer to slide in and close. I will say that while the challenge of maximizing the drawer was a minor inconvenience the fact it is a completely separate section that stays 100% dry while retaining temperatures is super handy.
This design is unlike any other cooler on the market and gives you additional options when loading. Ninja also compliments this cooler with a ton of accessories to make sure your adventures are fully supported and food and drink stays cold for the duration. I would consider the 50qt if space isn’t an issue for some additional flexibility with additional storage space, for a family of 4 the 30qt was just a tad bit too small.
