When I was looking for a way to recharge the Switch, I looked at all types of methods such ad USB-C cables, docking stations, and 3rd party AC plugs. After extensive research, I finally decided to purchase this official AC adapter. First, USB Type C cables can charge the Nintendo Switch, but it appears that the voltage is not exactly what the Nintendo Switch needs to properly recharge. It will take longer to recharge the system, and if the power source you use to plug the USB Type C cord is not powerful enough, the console could discharge faster than it charges. Next up, docking stations. I searched far and wide and could not find any docking stations (other than the official one that comes with the system) that would work from a 3rd party. The Nintendo Switch docking station was specially designed to transfer the video signal via the USB connector into the HDMI plug in the official docking station. So this ruled out finding a 3rd party docking station. Finally, I saw some 3rd party plugs that may work but where a hit-or-miss according to some reviews. Rather than take a risk, I stuck with this official charging AC plug. It's the same one that comes with the Nintendo Switch system, so you know for sure that it will work right. My only criticism with this plug is that it is a bit on the short side at 6-feet in length. A 10-foot cable would have been better to allow for a bit more reach. But luckily the length worked for my purposes. Thus, I didn't dock it any points for the length. I wanted to mention the 6-foot length, however, for other potential customers that may see this as an issue.

If you want an official Nintendo USB C AC charger, there is no other alternative. This will run you back a few pennies but considering it’s going to be powering your $300 investment there aren’t many better options. This is a direct replacement for the OEM, out of the box AC adapter that comes with your switch as well so if you lost that or just need a second one for traveling, this is your best bet. I do have to say that Nintendo is doing something strange with the power delivery of this charger, which makes it perfect for the Switch and other Nintendo products but that’s about it. I WOULD NOT, however, use it for 3rd party, non Nintendo devices for charging since I’ve had experiences where it would charge for a few seconds, I’ll hear the AC adapter click, then the adapter stop working altogether until unplugged and plugged back in, and if you keep it plugged into the same 3rd party device it’ll just keep doing the same thing, charge for a bit, click then nothing. The 3rd party device in this case was my JBL Charge 4 portable speaker which charges via USB C. Has never happened to my Switch however. Other than that, awesome product!

Official Switch Power Adapter - Your Best Bet

Note* I've only used this to charge my Pro Controller. The official power adapter for the Switch is expensive, but it's the one to buy. Third party adapters can have the wrong power wattage, especially when dealing with usb type C. The regulations for type C are all over the place, so one cable is not always equal to another. Skip the headache of trial and error with your new $300 Nintendo Switch and just get this one. This Nintendo official adapter is all one piece, not a power brick and a detachable cable, so there's a better chance of it being the right tool for the job. In short, don't shop around. Just spend the $30 on Nintendo's. They should be using the right parts and it will be easier dealing with faulty OEM products than faulty third party if something ever happens to your Switch or controller.

Had to buy a replacement charger for my Switch when my original one broke. This is the same official charger that you would receive in-box if you were buying a brand new Switch, so everything works like you would expect. The cable length is somewhere around 6-feet which can be a bit of a problem depending on your personal TV setup. The way it hooks in to the back of the Switch's dock can make the dock particularly prone to being dragged if someone trips over the cable, so be sure to tuck it away. Thankfully the transformer brick is rather slim and the plug is non-polarizing so if you're strapped for outlet space you shouldn't have to hard of a time fitting this in.

I used to have a Chromebook Pro, so charging my Switch wasn't an issue when I was away from home. But I recently sold that device and found my self with no good charger to give it enough juice. Your average cellphone charger won't be enough to charge the Switch and it will be slow if you put it to sleep. I also don't recommend using any third party charger because they might end up damaging the Switch's USB-C port. So the only option left, is to get officially licensed Nintendo products. $30 is a bit high but it is a powerful charger and will probably last me a long while. I recommend waiting for a sale but otherwise, this is a good charger.

Mainly bought for using the original dock hooked to second TV. Portable nature of the Switch encourages you to play the game wherever you happen to be. But the expensive second dock set makes it hard to connect the Switch if you have multiple TVs in the house. I bought this so I can easily move the dock to multiple TVs in my house and not bother with hassle of unplugging power, HDMI, etc., every time i moved the dock - just keep every cable/wire plugged in and un-hook the dock if i want to game in another room.

Let's face it, if there were a generic one that was way cheaper and worked just as well we all would probably have bought it. But for all the quirks with USB-c interface that Nintendo has tweaked for the hdmi output and otherwise, you want something that is just going to work and deliver the right power to your device. Looks just like the one that came with your Switch and has a good length. For me it was helpful if I'm taking the dock or I'm on a long trip and I don't want to do all the wiring I have behind the tv. Just pack this one as your travel unit. Works great but would be perfect if it was $15/$20 instead.

It's a charger for the Switch, so.... it does exactly what you'd think. But I have 2 complaints: -it's $30! Come on Nintendo. The Switch is really a handheld. I find most of the accessories' MSRP for the Switch to be too high. -this one may not be fair, but I honestly think the cable should be USB into the adaptor, and users should he able to swap it. I mean they took the step of making the cable usb-c, which is pretty universal. Why not allow me to charge other devices? I realize it wasn't advertised to do that, but it seems like something that could have been easily included. Especall for that price point.

I have my switch dock using my original power adapter. I needed another cord for next to my bed when I charge at night or for traveling. This is the only cord you want. Do not buy the Nyko or any 3rd party adapters as Nintendo has specifically warned that those power adapters will damage your switch and in some cases bricked them useless. Definitely recommend a second power cord for those that play in hand held mode and tv mode frequently and don’t want to mess with swapping power cables.

    True Nintendo AC Adapter

When it comes to things like consoles, I generally prefer using the originally supplied AC adapter. They will always work, charge the device as quickly as possible without damaging anything. So it's great to have an additional OEM AC adapter on hand. I take it with me whenever I travel. I do wish the brick was smaller but if that's the size it needs to be to provide enough power to charge while playing, I'm good with it.

Okay so I'll start by saying this is a well built power plug. That having been said, I did absolutely no research on the Switch or it's power connector as it was an impulse buy. Had I of looked into it I would have realized the Switch uses a standard USB "C" connector & any old USB to "C" would have worked when coupled with the 20 or so USB to AC plug adapters I have at the house. This plug was $30 + tax & a USB "C" cable runs right around $6 - $8. It's my own fault for not doing research first. It is a well made cable but overpriced considering what it is.

This was a simple purchase to replace a damaged charging cable, I started my search on amazon looking at cheaper versions, but ended up going with the Nintendo brand after hearing multiple experiences with faulty, cheaply produced knock off brands, figured it was worth the 20-30% more for something that is produced by the manufacturer for the device. Haven't had any issues with over-heating or non-charges. Sometimes it makes sense to go with name-brand, in this case I think that is the way to go.

My son and I went on a trip we took our switch so that we could play it during some down time in our hotel. I brought a USB cable and a plug attachment to power the dock. That will not work! Fortunately we had a Best Buy near by and were able to pick up this adapter - bonus, now when moving around with the dock we no longer have to unplug everything; we just toss the extra adapter and hdmi cable in the bag with the switch and dock and are good to go! NOTE: It requires 5v 1.5a / 15v 2.6a output to drive the dock.

Great purchase for traveling with the switch. Wish it would allow a USB-C AV splitter cable to extend it's capabilities so I could use the Switch in full power docked mode on the go. Also it's Al old style "Wall Wart" plug, but not as bad as the OG NES/SNES/Genesis adapters. Would be 5 stars with added AV docked capability and a sleeker size. Only recommending it as it's the best choice for full charging power on the road, and can be used with the purchase of an additional $60 Dock from Nintendo.

So, how do you rate a power adapter? It has some good length, so your not tied to the floor on the wall when playing and charging. I feel it is over priced but like the "insurance" that it is from Nintendo for one of their products. I would recommend only if you do not want to take the charger that is used for the docking station. I use this when I take the Switch to work, any commutes when going into the city and vacations.

People complain about the price but I've done my research and this one is the best for your Nintendo. There is PD (power delivery) tech that allows the switch to charge much faster than a standard USB-C cable connected with a USB jack. Even jacks that support 5V at 3amps can't charge as fast that this. Save yourself the headache and get this charger. The only downside is the length of the cable, but an extension cable will solve that.

Same cord you get for plugging into your charging dock with you switch console. Having the extra is really only needed if your taking the console away from your charging dock for prolonged amounts of time. I have heard people say you can use normal phone chargers for this purpose. However I've had no luck with it providing enough juice to actually charge using my usbc phone cord. Otherwise this charger works wonders

Does exactly what it's supposed to, which is charge the switch back up quickly. I leave mine plugged in all the time so I have a quick access to charging when the switch needs a recharge (which is very often). Durability seems great and nothing has broken yet in a few months after hundreds of charging cycles. I would not recommend aftermarket brands as these could damage the switch or usb port and void warranty.

This is the exact same AC adapter that comes with the switch, however the only downfall is that if you have a difficult placement where your dock sits and you more move around and play your Switch can be a problem. I typically use my Switch in handheld mode and so when I use my dock, the always have to detach and attach the AC Adapter was getting annoying. So, I bought another one!

Don’t buy the cheap ones. These are the best charging cords to buy. If you get a cheap one you can’t play and charge at the same time. The one we had prior to this one didn’t charge fast enough and the game would die if my son played it While charging. This one allows you to still enjoy playing and you can charge it at the same time.
