Required for the purchase of downloadable content in the eshop. I bought this for mario kart for wiiu. For less than 1/3rd of the retail price of the game... This amount was perfect with credit left over. It allowed me the purchase of two new cups plus 2 future cups-- extending the life of mario kart for wii u.

Card denomination works well when you want to buy something cheap for a birthday or Christmas present. I did however have an issue activating the card, which required a call to Nintendo customer service. Service experience was great, but had to wait an additional three days to get credit on my Nintendo account.
