Unlike the grip that comes with the Switch, this allows you to keep your Joy-Cons "docked" in it and then plug it in to recharge. It's an excellent alternative to the pro controller if you don't want to spend extra money.

Definitely easier on my massive hands than the individual Joy Cons, but not quite as good as the pro controller. Still, great to have- it serves both as a controller and as a charging dock for the joy cons.

I think this charging grip is an easy choice if you are planning on getting a grip for your extra joy cons anyway. It is very convenient to have this over the non-charging regular grip because you can drop your extra set of joy cons (or which ever set is getting low on batters) into the grip and set it aside to charge on the dock while you use the other set. I think that is well worth it and makes joy con "management" a lot easier than just trying to charge them on the Switch itself.

My kid love this set up because not only does it charge the controllers, it also gives her a better grip.

the switch joy-con grips feel just a little small, but it still works great. the charging aspect is lovely

This allows you to put the JoyCon controllers into the grip to use as a controller, with the addition of being able to charge via the USB-C port on the top. The included one with the switch does not have the charging capability. I prefer to play with JoyCon in the grip, then plug this in to charge overnight, so I've been using it a lot. Definitely recommended if you own more than one set of JoyCon, since the only other way to charge them is to dock them to the Switch.
