    Mixed Review - Joy-Con misfunctioned w/in 2 weeks

I have a mixed review of these Joy-Cons. On one hand, they are a great engineering concept (and obviously they're a necessity to use with the Switch). However, the only reason we bought these replacements is because one of the Joy-Cons on my son's Switch (which we just bought 6 months ago) began to malfunction. On his games, the joystick would just move in one direction. We tried blowing air into it, cleaning it, and recalibrating it. Finally, I figured it was time to take it apart and figure out what was wrong with it. However, Nintendo has some proprietary tri-screws on the back of these Joy-Cons, which I had no luck finding at Best Buy, Home Depot, MicroCenter, nor GameStop. Rather than ordering a screwdriver from Nintendo, I relinquished and bought these $70 replacements. Within 2 weeks, one of these Joy-Cons began to malfunction in the same manner, although not as bad (YET!). We have engrained into my son's head that if he ever breaks the Switch, there is no replacement. Hence, he is very careful with it and doesn't play rough, doesn't toss the controllers, doesn't spill drinks on them, etc. So I'm not really sure why this is occuring. Regardless, you can't really play the Switch without these controllers, so not much I can do. I'll probably eventually take one apart and see what's going on beneath the surface. Just be forewarned that this is the 2nd occurrence of this issue for us within 6 months. I already found the $70 price point to be a bit excessive for a game controller, so I will definitely not be buying a 3rd set and will have to deal with fixing these on my own.

    quality isn't the greatest

These joycons start out well but rarely last more than a few months or around 400 hrs of gameplay for me. The main problem is how they designed the joysticks. They are far too precise so that even with a tiny bit of wear they will sometimes get stuck and continue to register movement in the center position. I guess this can be called joystick drift and it makes most games unplayable as you watch your character wander off in some random direction when you want him to stay put. Dusting and opening up for cleaning does nothing. Neither does resetting calibration or updating the firmware. So if I want to continue playing games on this system, I'm stuck buying a new pair every few months. It also isn't great that some joycons are tight and others very loose when installed on the switch. You can fix this with tape on the side, but you shouldn't have to. If they can improve the durability of the control sticks, these would be great. I've never had to buy controlers so often on any other past nintendo system. Usually they would last for years without breaking. Maybe these are just too small and harder to build. And since I only like playing in handheld mode, there is really no other option for me. My october made switch joycons from last year as well as several other pairs of joycons bought separately all developed the joystick failure after a few months of playing. I wish all games had the option of using the directional buttons instead of the stick, because I never had any problems with the push buttons wearing out.

    Great Product, Too Frequent issues

I love the joycon concept for the Nintendo Switch. They are much smaller yet so much more powerful than the wiimotes of yesteryear. the addition of a second joystick is something that nintendo has needed to do for years to their default controllers. Using each joycon alone in landscape mode is a little bit cramped. I prefer using the right joycon. My biggest gripe is the reliability issues. Nintendo has addressed this, but it was months ago. When I bought this, they should have fixed the issue a while ago. I stood only about 15 feet from the console, and putting some obstacle between the console and the controllers (as in there isn't a direct line of sight), they would disconnect. Even if they didn't, control became erratic. Overall, my problem isn't with the product itself. If they were to fix this issue like they said they would, they would receive 5 stars. Until that happens, however, I stick behind my 2 stars

As much as I love the Switch, I am HUGELY disappointed in the quality of the joy cons. Both of my controllers began malfunctioning to the point of being unusable after only 5-6 months, and I’ve heard the same thing from far too many other people. The joysticks become randomly unresponsive as well as drifting and moving on their own. For the $70-80 price tag, these are really low quality. I still have yet to have a single issue with any of my wii controllers circa 2006, or any other issues with my older Nintendo hardware, so I really can’t fathom why these controllers that are double the cost are failing after only months.

I bought these as replacements for the ones that came with my unit. The first set lasted about a year and a half, then the left joystick started drifting (very annoying when you can't control your character correctly). I looked up online how to fix it. Calibrating didn't work. Cleaning under the stick boot didn't work. So Nintendo makes you spend a lot of money (I think these are overpriced) to replace them every couple of years. When they work though, they are great.

So switch controllers are known to have issues ith the joysticks these came to me looking brand new however had stick input issues after about 2 weeks of very light use 2 hours or less per week. Good deal but without a valid warranty from Nintendo the fix is pay Nintendo to fix them or buy a new set such a shame...

The products were timely delivered, packaging intact, and invoicing squared away, so no issues with Best Buy. With respect to the devices, they have had communications issues with the system. They lose the connection and take a 1/2 second to second to reestablish the connection. The fraction can be critical in game play. I plan to exchange. I have had no issues with the joy cons that came with my system, so it's an issue with this set.

The Switch is a party favorite for teens! Had to stock up on the multi color controllers of course. You can't go wrong with a Nintendo Switch party for boys. The colors are cool however they are too small for teen boy hands. They prefer and recommend the switch pro-controllers for better game play. My boys are 13, 15 and 18.

Bought the Joy-cons (open box), and within 3 months of using them the control stick started acting unresponsively, but unfortunately didn't buy any geek squad protection. For trying to save a few dollars on open box, I ended up with joy cons that I practically can't use and did not even really get a chance to use them for the price I paid. Really disappointed.

The technology in the Joy Cons are amazing, but the price (which is much higher than most console controllers) is far too high to be considered fair. The controllers also are known to have sync issues as well. Finally, we also see that having more than 2 joy cons is necessary for most people, so the high price point for an essential part of a $300 console is a big let-down.

There is a serious flaw in the design with the joy cons. The bumpers can easily be slid on the wrong direction. Don't panic, just go on YouTube and search for a video that will show you how to fix the issue. That said, $80 for two controllers is a stupid price.

these are great when they work. there have been reports of these losing connection with the console and having to be re-paired at random times. My controllers were no exception. hopefully nintendo will take care of this problem. Your hands are tied if you want to play

If you want multiplayer gaming, you will need a set of these. yet they are useless without a handheld pad to allow you to use them like a classic style controller. congrats, collectively this will cost you $110.

I purchased this item on launch day and it was of one of the batches that had constant connectivity issues. Apparently Nintendo is now replacing the problematic batch; but it didn't stop me from returning them... unfortunately.

Bought this to play Mario Kart with 4 players. I could make myself play through with the tiny form factor, but the constant loss of connection was the breaking point. Took them back to the store and bought pro controllers.

My original left joycon has issues with interference. I bought a second pair to play with friends, and this new pair also has the same issue. Poor QC by Nintendo, especially given the high price.
