My son has an older 3DS that his uncle gave him. I just bought this for myself because I wanted a 2DS or 2DS XL (went with XL obviously). I chose this because even though it costs more, it's a little bit more compact and the screens are bigger. For me, that's more important to see the screen easier. Compared to my son's 3DS XL, I love it! The overall size is smaller, but it has more buttons and I like the layout for everything. The purple color is my favorite color I have seen for one of these. Anyway, I bought this so that we could spend more time together playing games until I buy a new Xbox One X (sold my old Xbox One). It's a lot of fun to link up and play games with or against him. I'm a little sad to see that there are so few games available in store, but the 3DS/2DS aren't going anywhere anytime soon so I know I can buy them online or at other stores. I would say that these are a good value at $150 plus tax. Battery life is pretty excellent, sound is decent, and the slot for the game cartridge is in such a better spot...the back of the 3DS XL sucks because you can accidentally pop the game out...my son does (he fidgets a lot). I'm a huge Mario fan so I bought this and New Super Mario Bros 2. Also, this comes with Mario Kart 7 already installed, so that is a win in my book.

A coworker said, you can play those on your phone. No, not the good stuff. Not the way it's meant to be played. Not with amiibo support, a 3d camera and not to mention, no hassle. It works. It works well. The screen is so much better than the original 2ds. And with the faster processor, games load so much faster. Badge arcade was once dreaded because of the slow load times. Now, not at all. Other improvements for other games and more real estate to view them and with a free game to boot, what's not to love. The only complaint is the hinge. It isn't as sturdy as the new 3ds xl , but as a whole the system is thinner and lighter. And the home button is in a better place. If you haven't got one, go get it. Don't say, well I have a switch I don't need it. Yes you do. The games are rich and fun. Your not mindlessly shooting zombies like so many triple a games on other systems. Your having fun, like you did as a child. Remember fun?

    Another A+ Handheld from Nintendo

True to form for Nintendo, the 2DS XL is a user-friendly, cost-conscious handheld with a solid durable design and an amazing roster of great titles. The battery life is pretty impressive considering how much this system does and how bright and crisp the displays are. The stylus is stored inside the body of the console when not in use, making it very difficult to misplace. The library classic NES, SNES, N64, and Gameboy titles available in the Nintendo eShop make this a must-have handheld for anyone with long commutes. Just make sure you pick up some extra storage if you plan to pick up a lot of these digital titles.

I already own the 1st gen 3ds xl and loved it. Although I don’t play it anymore. I wanted to get an early Christmas gift for my 5 yr daughter who likes to game like her dad. But I didn’t see the need for the new 3ds xl, so I took a chance on this. And I have to say this newly updated version is very nice. Light and solidly built. Several color/designs to choose from too. Speakers are not very loud but she has 5 yr old ears. Not an issue. Good job on Nintendo. Very happy and well worth the price!

A few years ago I owned a 3Ds Xl, Stopped using it for a long time and sold it. So when this came out I kept eyeing it. (Missing all my games I used to play.) Finally bought it for myself, So I do not regret it at all. I never used the 3d feature on my old one so this was perfect for me. Simple and easy to use. My only complaint is the battery life doesn't last very long. Just maybe a couple hours of playing time. But this is still one of my favorite handhelds.

Positive initial impression from children (5 and 7 yo), although did not seem as excited about it as we thought they might be. Controls and UI take some getting used to, graphics mediocre compared to an iPhone/iPod. Perhaps seem more intuitive to children, but to me seemed kind of prehistoric. US model only takes 110V AC charging...kind of limiting if you travel. Games also quite expensive for a casual gamer (ie many appear to be $30 each), although some of the original Mario games are reasonable.

It's a cool little gaming system I bought for my 7 and 10 year old daughters. However after owning for a few months my 10 year old said she should have gotten the Nintendo Switch bc it has more games. As for my 7 year old she's still stuck on her tablet and phone watching Youtube videos, but they both still play their DS just not that much...honestly I should have just bought them both new phones...why does anyone need any other devices other than that?

Even though it doesn’t have the 3D feature it’s perfectly fine. Many will probably agree with me that it was gimmicky anyway. You can still play the same great games with the same screen size, and it carries the same features as the “new” 3DS models. It may not feel as “premium” as the current new 3DS model but it’s still of high quality (much better than the old 3DS XL and significantly more than the old 2DS)

I had one of the orignal DS game systems and recently found a bag containing my collection of old DS games. I was pleased to find this next generation system at best buy and purchased zelda too. The 3D graphics are amazing and immersive. However you have to carefully hold the device to get the 3d effect clearly. Lots a of fun re living older games. I highly recommend this game player

I bought this for my 7 year old and I think I play it more. I got several older games such as Zelda and Metroid to play on my breaks at work. The graphics are great and controls are easy to use. There is some vibration on the back caused by speaker location. That is only issue I have noticed so far. This system is great and wished I would have bought sooner. Don’t hesitate like I did for a few year or you will miss out.

My son asked Santa for the Nintendo 2DXL and Santa brought it. He loves playing the Mario Kart game that came predownloaded. He seemed to pick up the controls fairly quickly even though it was his first time playing. It fits his his size well but it sucks when i have to do things for him and im not a big guy. I wish the stylus was a bit longer because without it typing for and adult is a headache.

My four and a half year old received this as a Christmas gift and she loves it, she cannot read yet and some of the games have an option to read the text out loud to help navigate the game. The only thing I don’t like about it is the buttons don’t light up, so unless you have them memorized, you cannot tell which button is which if you are playing in a dim or dark room.

I bought this for my almost 4 year old who loves Mario. I liked that you can change the settings to block out things that aren't good for her age. The setup was very easy and she loves the camera feature, just to play. My only complaint is the charging time. The battery lasts 1 1/2 -2 days with moderate use but takes 5 to 6 hrs to charge. Otherwise a great gift!

This is excellent. Same visual screen size as the 3ds xl, can play the same games and is a bit lighter. If you don't mind not having the 3d feature in the one screen, this is by far the best bang for your buck. Not worth a deduction in stars, but wish the color options were a bit better. But the black on blue looks good enough.

Nintendo delivers with this device. Can play all my old DS games and has a decent selection of titles. Nice that it comes in a variety of colors but I only wish you could game share with one more device since having two requires me to buy two separate copies of the game. Other than that my nephew and I love this thing.

I was on the fence about buying one so late in it’s life cycle, but my original 3DS was getting worn out and was uninspiring to play after upgrading to a Switch. This is a nice bridge between the two and makes it easier to get through the 3DS games I didn’t get around to finishing

This thing is great! Came preloaded with Mario Kart which is a fun game for my Kindergartener to waste an hour on! Also bought super mario 3D game which is about size of a memory card that plugs right in. The user has a computer destop like OS with Internet and all kinds of other little games for kids. Highly recommend!

If you already have a New 3DS, there isn't a tremendous reason to pick this up, but if you have an old 2DS, or if your 3DS has reached EOL, this is a fantastic replacement for it. It includes everything you need, including the charger, and the only thing missing is the somewhat hokey 3D feature.

Tagged team with my son’s uncle and purchase as a Christmas gift. He’s six and quickly learned how to use the controls for Mario Kart. Picked up Super Smash brothers and he was a pro after a flight. Graphics look really good and the battery holds up well. Definitely sneak time to play a game myself.
