Picked this up black friday, wish i knew before hand this was literally just the unit itself; nothing else included. Luckily found my old dsi charging cable to avoid needing to purchase something required for continued use. Guess you're getting what you pay for. Had i known id probably just gotten the xl instead. The mushroom pattern is nice but the top piece is just like a cover plate.

    Very cool, very swag

It's all black but the design is still really nice. Didn't know the faceplates were removeable so that's cool too. I needed a new 3DS since my OG 3DS was on death bed.

I was looking for an affordable, new 3ds and this one does not disappoint. It's sleek, white, and really comfortable for a guy with big hands.

    Great system

The 3DS is a great system with an excellent library of games to choose from. The New iteration adds some nice features including the C-stick which is more of a nub, but very responsive. I don't utilize the 3D functionality regularly but it is pretty effective. This particular system was (at the time) a Black Friday exclusive so unfortunately it may be difficult to find for the $99 price or the regular retail that these systems go for ($149) as resellers have taken advantage of the demand once again, but if you can find one, I recommend it. The design is subtle but pretty cool, and the all black looks great. The system is a little small for larger hands but it's not cramp-inducing. It's a good, lightweight size that fits easily into a pocket. This is the main reason I purchased this particular system. The one downfall to the new design is you have to use a screwdriver to actually get to the micro SD card slot if you want to expand the storage form the 4GB card that it comes with, which I recommend because the library of games on the Virtual Console is massive for this system (Earthbound, anyone?) and a 32GB card will go a long ways for this system. But the need for a tool to do this I feel is a step backwards in design, but it shouldn't be a deal breaker because it's fairly easy to do. Overall, great system. If you're considering a 3DS definitely go with a New or New XL, as games will run smoother. I actually noticed some frame-rate dips on the original 3DSXL while playing Pokemon Sun, which I didn't even think possible on a handheld. This new system is more powerful and has no problems. I recommend it!

Two down-sides, overall a great piece of hardware

The only gripes I have with this item are the screws used to secure the back plate and the fact that this model (in it's exclusive coloring) only just now came to the states. The New Nintendo 3DS has been excluded from the North American market since the release of the console update back in 2014. We were given special versions sparsely since then with extremely limited edition models which were almost always scalped and sold at ridiculous upticks to the prices via third party sellers before most fans could even get into establishments to purchase them, unless of course you pre-ordered them. With the history of recent issues regarding new hardware and software, it's hard to trust purchasing something before it's had some time to prove itself on the market. The screws on the console are the same as the ones they've used throughout the life of the 3DS, which are easily stripped, and if that is the case and something goes wrong with the hardware, the item becomes un-repairable. This console is fast to download programs from the e-shop, it's quick to switch between apps, and the exclusive black base coloring is the first that North America has had access to for the New Nintendo 3DS. It's unfortunate that we only just got this particular piece of hardware a few months before the release of the Nintendo Switch which I believe (whether Nintendo will admit it or not) will replace both the 3DS portable console family and Wii-U home console family going forward in March 2017.

One of the greatest gaming handhelds ever!

The New Nintendo 3DS from Nintendo is one of the greatest gaming handhelds ever released! Not only does this handheld play every US-region 3DS game on the market, it is fully backwards compatible with all Nintendo DS games (even those from outside the US!) and has access to a robust selection of downloadable games via the Nintendo eShop. The "New" 3DS features a vastly improved glasses-free 3D display and is the only way to play enhanced 3DS games like Xenoblade Chronicles 3D as well as downloadable classic SNES games (available via the eShop). Also, it may be smaller than the New 3DS XL but this model features interchangeable face plates which allow you to customize your console to your liking! Recommended accessories: 32GB Micro SD card Nintendo 3DS AC Adapter Nintendo eShop Card ($10/$20/$35/$50)

    nice to be back!

Haven't owned a portable game system since the original Gameboy, and I thought it was a little silly to buy one these days when there are so many games on the phone. Turns out this thing's nice, doesn't need to be connected to the internet all the time and Nintendo makes a lot of classic titles with classic franchises that are all fantastic games. Definitely worth it if you want to catch up on your Pokemon, Zelda, Mario or other games you'll never play on your phone. I've never used another DS or 3DS but this one has a good size and good battery life. While the screen isn't as big as my phone, it's still quite good for playing games. The 3D effect I haven't seen used to any good effect yet so it's a little irrelevant, but I think I prefer this to the larger non-foldable 2DS for portability.

    Great Value

This is a great system with tons of games supporting it. This deal in particular is great for $99. This is a smaller screen than the new 3DS XL or the original 3DS XL but ithe is bigger than the original 3DS. It is more portable than the XL models because of that, which is great. I bought it for my 6 yr old daughter and she loves it. The case design is really nice we got it in white. Her older brother has the older 3DS XL and they love playing games together now. As a parent who has used both screen sizes the smaller size on this is no big deal. My daughter has not said a word about it. I think it probably fits her small hands better anyways. It you are older and have bigger hands I would recommend the XL but for kids or someone looking for a more portable option this is an excellent choice.

Smaller version of a already great console

This is the smaller version of the new 3ds (previously only available in the large XL version here in the states). It is fully compatible with all games for the 3ds and is a little more portable due to its smaller size. The outer shell can actually be replaced and a new design can be applied by just unscrewing few screws and unsnapping the original one. Love the fact that I can change the design without having to get a new console like the XL version, this along with the fact that it actually fits better in my pockets makes me prefer it to the XL version as there are really no differences software compatibility wise

Must have for any handheld gamer

I haven't owned a handheld console since the gameboy color (yes I'm old school) and thought I'd get something to entertain me during my work lunch breaks. I was originally looking into an older GBA until I stumbled across this special edition 3DS. I wasn't sure about it at first, since I've never used one but I thought it was just $100 (awesome deal) and if I didn't like I could always return it. Got it in the mail, took it out of the packaging and loved it. Great size all around, nice Mario theme cover, and tons of fun to play with. Lots to do and plenty to download. Haven't tested out playing online and connecting with a WiiU, but will get there eventually. Would highly recommend!

    Great for younger kids

I got this item during their black friday sale (which happened on a thursday, so really black thursday). I owned the 3DS XL before this and the size was a downgrade BUT it really isnt an issue for me. The original 3ds is smaller than this product so its still an upgrade. Its good for younger kids because of the size but also great for the older crowd because it can fit anywhere and barely takes up space in a jacket pocket or purse. !! My friend's console was damaged when he first got it and if you have any issues, go to nintendo support to get a repair order started, depending on what the issue is, they will fix it for free !!

This smaller and customizable 3DS is a great option for those who may have small children or maybe those who don't prefer the larger equivalent. The cover plates makes it fun to have each 3DS unique to a person's liking. The hardware itself is great, its reported to be much faster then the original 3DS and given the ability to play an additional select few games that require that little extra push. The 3DS's library in my opinion is a great one. I have a Vita (love it), but prefer the variety that comes with the 3DS lineup, and I'm sure any person or child will find something that they will enjoy.

    Perfect Handheld system

I liked the size of this 3DS better than the XL. I came from a 2DS as I still wanted something smaller but this one has a larger screen than the 2DS/original 3DS while retaining a similar small footprint. It's faster and handles heavy games like Pokemon Sun/Moon and Smash Bros better. The battery is a tiny bit better, about the same, the microSD slot is in an awkward spot but finally supports up to 32GB. Overall I absolutely LOVE this system and it's black friday price was great, I would recommend it for someone who wants a good handheld system that's smaller/cheaper than the 3DS XL.

I'm somewhat of a collector of various systems. I don't have all the 3DS systems ever released, but I have many. And this one ranks right up there in terms of style and elegance. I love the uni-color with the blending decals. I purchased this one for my daughter as a Christmas present and I can't wait to see the look on her face when she opens it. There is no upgrade as far as the system itself is concerned. This was only a matter of physical beautification. If you are happy with your current 3DS, this one won't do much to change that feeling.

I fell in love with the Nintendo 3DS family. I ended up buying a Nintendo 3DS XL when Pokemon XY Version came out. After they announced the New Nintendo 3DS XL Hyrule edition I immediately pre-ordered and ever since than I have been living it even more. Great to play Monster Hunter without needing the Circle Pad Pro attachment thanks to the additional C-analog that is built in the system. Than I and ended up buying my third New 3DS with the Super Mario Edition for cheap off of Black Friday's event. It looks great.

I initially was going to buy an XL and I am not convinced that I won't still. The unit can be a bit cramped if you have large hands. But for $99 dollars, this is a great little system. The 3d works amazing with the new facial targeting. The battery life is also very good. The speakers could be louder but I usually play with headphones anyway. Definitely worth it especially when you consider than an XL is double the price! I gave it 5 stars because its really an excellent system for the price despite some of its flaws.

My daughter LOVES her 3DS. She is into tech so it is very natural to her. The 3D is not recommended until you are 7 or 8, my daughter says it makes her eyes cross so she doesn't use it at all and isn't interested in it at all. The 3DS has a manual switch for 3D. Better than the 2DS because it is foldable most importantly and Nintendo made the hinge better so it wouldn't break as easily and the new 3DS has better processing power and it is super noticeable in newer games. 3DS is compatible with DS games as well!

Purchased this at Best Buy on Thanksgiving and I am glad to have gotten it. Our daughter loves the look and the size is great for the person who finds the xl too large. Everything is easy to reach and the advanced 3d is a big improvement over the older model. Really happy with it being backwards compatible for the older ds games even if they don't all utilize the 3d aspect of the new 3ds. Just remember to purchase a charger because it doesn't come with one. Pretty happy so far and definitely worth the money.

So much lighter than my 3ds xl. But battery dies faster. Was hoping that my hands wouldn't cramp like with the 3ds xl but they still do. One is too small and the other too big. Best thing to do is buy a grip whatever system you have. Games looks better than the xl but of course the screen is smaller. Love the matte faceplates. The fact that they're replaceable means no bulky cases to protect the system. Would definitely recommend the smaller size. Lots of trade offs but still a great system.

Ever since the release of the New 3DS other regions had multiple colours available for the XL and standard 3DS, while the US had the XL and eventually limited released of the white New NIntendo 3DS. The new 3DS plays most games much better and with slightly lower load times, the black colour blends into the background while playing games and I feel helps them be more immersive. The option to customize it with changeable faceplates is one of my favourite features for it.
