Bought as a gift for my child. I currently own the New Nintendo 3DS. My child would play in it a few times, and always with 3D off. The New Nintendo 2DS has all of the same technologies for processing and features as the 3D counterpart, except for the 3D parallax screen. Ironically it still features a 3D camera. That means it plays exactly like the New Nintendo 3DS with 3D slider to off. Same great controls, but actually better. The 4 triggers are now larger and more comfortable to reach for either big or small hands. Same great library of Nintendo DS and 3DS games play in the console without issues. Also the great Virtual Console of upscaled NES, SNES, and Game Boy games is accessible from eShop. Console is actually a bit smaller and lighter than the 3DS. Build quality is also on par. Battery life also seems to be on par for my child's play time, only needing to charge once or twice a week. It already includes a 4gb micro sd card for save data and eShop game downloads; this time card is easily accessible from front covered slot next to cartridge slot, making it safe and convenient to remove. Also includes the charger, which is compatible to all other 3DS consoles.

Well guys, this is it. After nearly 28 years since the original Game Boy, Nintendo has (presumably) released its final hurrah. With the advent of the Switch, there's no longer a reason to keep Nintendo handhelds and consoles separate from one another. With that said, if you snoozed on most of the entire DS's life cycle from Day 1, this is a MUST purchase. This is the time to clear your backlog of DS games you were always interested in but never made time for. The 2DS XL opens a door to hundreds of games and is compatible with all DS games, regardless of generation. It's a sleek, pretty little piece of hardware, and the screens are huge. Overall, it just feels good in your hands. Battery life is great. Granted, there may not be a reason to upgrade if you already have a 3DS XL, but for someone like me who was never interested in (and on the contrary, averse to) 3D gameplay, this thing is a no-brainer. Pick one up now so you can play Metroid: Samus Returns in September! Personally, I have some Castlevanias to play... For more video game previews and reviews, check out 2v1 Podcast on iTunes!

    Fun, portable console

Like I said, it's pretty fun and pretty portable. I'd say that, when closed, it's about the length/width of a smartphone and a bit thicker than one. Adjustable screen angle. The inside screen and sometimes matte surface does seem to attract fingerprints and smudges, but those come off easily. The hinges do feel a little fragile, but I have not had any problems at all with them over the past 3 months, and it may just be me feeling paranoid. Whenever I use the analog stick, I'm also always paranoid it will snap sometime in the future. I'm guessing because I'm used to the brick that is the GBA SP. I don't know how compatible it is with big hands since I have small mitts, but it feels fine to hold for me. The included 4GB is holding more games than I expected to, but then again most of my games are virtual console, so take that with multiple grains of salt. Tl;dr: It plays well and is portable. The hinges and analog stick may be vulnerable in the long run, but it's very likely I'm overly worried.

I bought my 3DS when it first launched back in 2011 and held off on upgrading until now. This is a pretty fantastic upgrade over the original model -- it sports a faster processor, a second mini circle pad (super handy for controlling the camera in games like Monster Hunter), a much slicker design, and, of course, a larger screen. I've had zero issues with it so far, and all of the buttons, sticks, etc. feel fantastic. The screen also seems more vibrant and colorful than my original 3DS, though it doesn't appear to be an IPS screen. (Disappointing, but not super surprising.) All of my games also load much faster than they did on the original model. It does lack the 3D feature of the other models, so if that's something you care about you'll want to look into buying the New 3DS XL instead. I never played games in 3D so it's no loss for me. The 3DS has a massive collection of fantastic games at super affordable prices, so now's a great time to buy one of these. Highly recommended.

Great Way To Play 3DS Games

I've never had a 3DS, and I've never been one for the 3D effect on them, so this was a no brainer for me. Wanted a way to play 3DS games (and 3DS virtual console titles), but just never pulled the trigger on it. This is a perfect, compact (even though it says XL) way to play 3DS games, and I couldn't be happier. This is a super affordable version of the 3DS without the 3D option (hence the lower price tag), and it is great! The slide pad feels great, and I love the size of this portable. A little thinner and a little smaller overall than a 3DS XL, it fits nicely in my bag or in my pocket. Overall, if you don't have a 3DS, and you're looking to check out some 3DS games, and don't want to break the bank, I'd recommend this in a heartbeat.

If you're a grown up get the switch instead. You'll love it more. My eyes are 100% anymore and the screen is a hair small without coke bottle glasses. That being said, PROS Internet access Some games are cheap Mario and Donkey Kong and Zelda CONS Screen Flap is a wee bit flimsy Feels like you shouldn't drop it ever Nintendo phone support is just ok. Don't forget pin for parental lock etc. Overall this is going to be a good cover the bases kind of Christmas gift. Every time we went into a store this is what the 8yo would sit and play - so she gets one for the holidays.

I was never a fan of the '3D' capabilities of the 3DS (I have had the original 3DS as well as the New Nintendo 3DS XL in the past) so this was perfect for me. To me, the colors of the games and graphics themselves are more vibrant and defined in 2D format and I am so glad they finally released an XL option of the 2DS as I hated the smaller 2DS I had been using prior to this release. Perfect for anyone wanting a 3DS at a more affordable price as well as without wasting the extra money on faux-3D graphics that just give you a headache.

Having already owned a 3ds I can say personally I never used the 3D feature at all for my games and I needed a new ds so I bought this. Already a plus because of the lack of 3ds mode and lower price point made it a perfect pick up for me and the color is just beautiful. And I know some of you are thinking why'd you buy a 2ds when the switch is a thing? I all ready own the switch which is also amazing. Nevertheless I'd recommend this 2ds if u want a color other than red or black and hate the 3ds feature on 3ds

Previously I had a New 3DS XL, and the 3D gave me a headache so I sold it hoping Nintendo would come out with a larger 2DS that would be cheaper than the New 3DS XL and here it is! I really like the new design and don't really mind the shorter stylus. Definitely consider purchasing if you have an old 2DS or an old 3DS and want a faster processor without the 3D option, or if you haven't joined the 3DS family yet!

I am really enjoying this 2DS. It has 2 large sceens, it's lightweight, and feels durable. That's the quality I have grown to expect from Nintendo. I got the 2DS to play the many Nintendo exclusives available on the 3DS platform (but didn't need games to be 3D) and so far Im having a blast. I like the option to purchase and download games from the eShop (both 3DS and Virtual Console games), and with the ability to add a larger micro SD card space hasn't been an issue.

    Best 3ds

This is the best version of the 3ds, and probably the best there ever will be. Can play all 3ds and ds games. Has the faster wifi the "new" provides along with the extra buttons and c stick. It's lighter and cheaper than the new 3ds xl. Only losing out on a small difference in battery life, and of course 3d, but I never used 3d anyway. For this cheap of a price, you get the best version of an amazing system with which you can enjoy a wide library of nintendo games.

I bought this 2DS XL for my 6 year old daughter on her birthday. She chose the ds over the switch, because some of the games on the switch were too difficult for her. She absolutely loves it, takes it everywhere and loves the dual screen. Great buy! Great introduction to gaming. I was even able to download donkey Kong and Super Mario from the Classic Nintendo Systems. Great Purchase!

The New Nintendo 2DS XL is the best system in the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. It's not lacking all the "New" features like amiibo support and enhanced controls, and it also has the bigger screens (XL). The only thing missing is the 3D which is not a big loss. For $50+ less than the New Nintendo 3DS XL and with a charger included! This is a great purchase for first-time buyers and people upgrading from an original 3DS system (not "New" or "XL").

Bought this as an extra system to play with my son. Love it! No need for 3d and all his games play perfect on here. The system is lighter and thinner than the 3ds, but the screens remain the same size. The only thing I'd change is the volume button was moved from the top screen to the bottom one and I hit it while playing sometimes unintentionally lowering the volume, but that's a minor thing. Other than that it's great!

Seriously, if you do not care about the 3D (no one does) then get this system, its the best overall DS that's been made. Light, easy to hold and comfy, great screens and sound is fine with the new speakers. Way better to hold for longer than 5 minutes vs the 3DS XL! Also, comes with AC adapter for less than the 3DS system which doesn't even come with one! Buy this.

I looked into the New Nintendo 3DS XL and the Nintendo 2DS. The New Nintendo 2DS XL is a great medium between the two. It has a compact design that I love with amazing graphics and a big screen. The top screen that flips is a little bit wobbly but should be fine as long as it's taken care of. The last hand held Nintendo product I had was the Nintendo DS and this was the perfect way to get me back into the systems.

The best 3DS system to date

I purchased this after my normal 2DS had a screen crack and so far I love it. The design looks very sleek compared to the other systems. The New 2DS XL feels nice in your hands and is light-weight and doesn't feel uncomfortable at all. This is a great upgrade because it has amiibo built in functionality, more control options, and can play New 3DS only games. I highly recommend buying this great handheld with a huge library.

We bought this as a birthday gift for my 6year old son. He loves minecraft and wanted a 3DS but after doing research we found that the NEW 2DS does exactly what a 3DS does expect for it does not play games in 3D which isn’t important to us. So we loved the fact we could save $50 and get him something he wanted. It has been great for car rides and waiting for food at restaurants! The battery life is great too.

I'm a Nintendo fan, but ended up skipping the DS and 3DS handheld generations. As a Metroid fan, the release of Samus Returns pushed me to get into the 3DS generation late, which isn't a bad move considering the huge library it has. The 2DS XL is a quality product that is a great way to get into the 3DS world for a bit cheaper than the 3D versions go. Screens look great, and build quality feels high.

This is an excellent system. Very well made and durable. It will play all Nintendo 2DS and 3DS games, although the 3DS games are obviously only in 2D. The one additional nice thing about this system, unlike the 3DS, is that it comes with a charger in the box. When taking that into consideration, this system is actually around $70 cheaper than the 3DS (as of Aug 2017) making it a great deal.
