    Old hardware and poor software

The Wii U graphics are comparable to the PS3 and 360 but the game library is much poorer. Other than Nintendo exclusives, which are few in number currently, there is no reason to get a Wii U instead of a PS3 or 360. Also the hardware on the Wii U is unimpressive. No fiber optic (which Sony had on the PS2 over a decade ago), no USB headset support, no bluetooth headset support, no DVD support, no CD support, no Blu-ray support, no media server support, no ethernet support. Games are all played differently so you'll need three different controllers (expensive). And official Nintendo controllers won't work on official Nintendo games - the Wii U pro controller won't work with New Super Mario Bros U. There is online play, but with how few consoles have been sold and how few headsets are supported, you won't find many people to play and talk with. Third-party developers either don't release games or don't support them on the console. EA and Activision have opted not to release DLC for Wii U games that are available on other consoles. Only buy the Wii U if you absolutely love Nintendo games like Mario and Zelda. Otherwise wait for a real next-gen console like the PS4.

The Wii U is a great buy if you don't already own a Wii! Basically the only obvious improvement from the old Wii to this one is the HDMI capability. Other than that you can use most old Wii games but you cannot use them with the Wii U handheld so that's useless and it was one of the main reasons we purchased the Wii U. All the DDR games cannot be played which was a total deal killer for me. So if you want to take full advantage of the Wii U features, you must buy the new games go figure (go figure) and there are not too many games currently available. The icing on the cake was it took FOREVER to initially set up the system, took at least two hours for the system to download and install all the "updated" software. For a machine that's not even been on the market for a year yet that seems a bit ridiculous.
