I am mostly satisfied with the Wii U Pro Controller. I got it for a great sale price, so I can't complain too much. PROS: - I like the feeling when each button is depressed. I expect no less from a first-party controller build. I think Nintendo has the best D-pad out of any other controller. - The controller feels nice in my hands. I can easily reach each button. - The battery life of the controller is very good, and the lithium-ion battery is rechargeable. The controller charges using a standard mini-USB, like Sony's DualShock 3 controller, rather than a proprietary port. You can use another mini USB to standard USB cable in place of the one included in the package if you wish, but the included USB cable is very nice and quite long. - The Wii U Pro Controller works in tandem with the Gamepad. You can control a single-player game with the Gamepad or turn on the Pro Controller and use it as Player 1 while using the Gamepad to manage inventory, interact with Miiverse, or view a map. Some games support four controllers with the Gamepad allowing a fifth player to interact as well. - The Wii U Pro Controller is often listed for sale at a much lower price than competitor's first-party controllers. CONS: - I would much prefer a matte finish to a glossy finish. - The right analog stick is located symmetrically to the left analog stick. When placing my hands on the buttons, I have sometimes pressed X (top button) while attempting to press Y (left button) because I am used to button locations on other controllers. It also seems like a little more effort to move my fingers from the ZL or ZR triggers to the L or R buttons than with other controllers. - The ZL and ZR triggers are digital. This doesn't allow for varying levels of button depression. So far, this has not been a problem for me at all. If I played racing games where I might want varying degrees of acceleration, this may be a more prominent issue. - It is possible this controller may not work with every game you might want to use it for. It did not work with New Super Mario Bros U out of the box, but that has been fixed through a title update. It does work with all Wii U Virtual Console titles and some Wii U eShop titles, but it is not backwards compatible with Wii Mode. It does not work with Nintendo Land or ZombiU's single-player campaign due to the design of each game; they were intended to be played using the Gamepad. Be sure to check controller compatibility with any game you might want to use this controller for. Overall, I have a favorable opinion of the controller and plan on purchasing a few more before Super Smash Bros is released for Wii U. I believe that game will control much more naturally with the Pro Controller, and it is my preferred method for playing compatible Wii U games and Virtual Console titles when not utilizing off-screen play on the Gamepad. 4 stars out of 5.

    Thumb Contortionist

This is Nintendo's answer to the standard dual-stick controller included with most consoles today, the outlier being Nintendo itself, who included the Wii U Game Pad instead. The Game Pad is technically able to do everything a traditional controller can do, but when playing games that don't need a touch screen, the Pro Controller is the better option. After all, if your Wii U Game Pad breaks, you can't just buy another one. The Pro Controller has several advantages over the Wii U Game Pad. First of all, it's smaller and lighter, which should help for longer sessions. Game sessions can actually last quite a while too, since the battery life on the Pro Controller is at least 50 hours. Even if the battery does die out and you have to plug it in, the cable included with the controller is long enough to let you sit where you usually do. The controller seems plenty sturdy as well, so I imagine it should last a while. Unfortunately, the Pro Controller's button placement takes a lot of getting used to. The buttons and analog stick on the right side are switched on the controller compared to most others. This means that your thumb naturally rests on the right analog stick and you have to move your thumb down to reach the buttons. Even then, I generally only reach the top two buttons comfortably. The bottom two I have to stretch to reach. All in all, I wish the buttons and stick placements had been left alone. Lastly, the triggers are not analog, which means in a racing game, the triggers can't tell the game to apply just a little gas. It's all or nothing. This is likely due to Nintendo's decision to make the Wii U Game Pad's triggers digital only first, and this has been carried over for consistency's sake. In summary, this is not a bad controller. It's generally comfortable, especially for games that use both sticks, and it has great battery life. It's certainly preferable to the Wii U Game Pad when a touch screen isn't required. One other quick note: Please be aware that this controller only works in games that support it, and support is unfortunately spotty. Nintendo's insistence of adding motion controls to games that generally don't need any results in many games that could have easily been compatible but aren't, because the Pro Controller does not feature any sort of motion control whatsoever. On the plus side, Nintendo has shown they can patch previously unsupported games to allow the controller to be used, with certain buttons replacing motions when those motions are basic enough. New Super Mario Bros U is one example. Oh, and this controller will absolutely not work with Wii software and never will, so don't get rid of that Classic Controller just yet.

Well I was Impressed with Nintendo,s version of Next Gen Controller but If they want The Wii-U to outsell The PS4 they should gave this Pro Controller and The Wii Remote for Free plus a Free Copy of Super Mario 3D World.Overall a Great Buy but alot of Gamers Complain about The Games for The Wii U but for Me its still The Price of The Pro Controller and Remote that should be in Half to Keep The System to Succed against The PS4 and Xbox One this Year plus Nintendo has to Wake Up and have more Mature and Adult Titles not Family and Mario Brother's Stuff since this Controller would be Excellent to Play alot of The Adult and Matured Stuff that available on The Nintendo 3ds to port over for HD Remakes for The Nintendo Wii U System for The E-Shop because a 1080p Remake of Xenoblade Chronicles would Outsell any of that Final Fantasy Stuff on The PS3 if They had it as an E Shop Exclusive with The Use of The Pro Controller. The Controller is a Buy but for 20 Cheaper they would Sell Fast if Nintendo would be more Opened Minded with there Power and History of JRPGs and Action/Adventure Stuff not Skylanders and Mario Gimmicks.

This is the controller NINTENDO has needed for so long! Size, feel, weight, layout, buttons are excellent on this controller. The right joystick takes all but 5 minutes to get used to. Controller includes joystick button clicks. Something I wanted from the Classic controller. Very good build quality. 80+ hours on a full charge! I already own 3 of these controllers. And Plan on buying a fourth for my collection. Only negative is the compatibility with some games. People do need to remember that launch titles were designed probably before the company's knew about this controller. I would almost bet all games going forward will support it. This is a step in the right direction with nintendo. Keeping the wii remotes, but moving back to controller based games.

I was in the store and was picking up new controllers, and went with this instead of a new Wii remote because it worked standalone and I wanted to add a gamepad as well; two birds with one stone. It is functional, but the buttons are not in my favorite locations and thus make them difficult to get used to. I have large hands and thought they wouldn't be difficult, but I still found myself primarily using the A button only on Smash Brothers. While watching the screen, I would think I'm reaching to push B, but end up only making it to A. I may just need to get used to it, but if I can't do B that easily, I can't imagine if X and Y are needed. It feels like they tried to copy XBox's controller but had to make changes to avoid the patents, but moving the XYBA location wasn't, in my opinion, the way to go. I won't be buying another one of these in the future. I'll likely focus on adding Wii remotes and GameCube controllers instead. Hopefully others had better luck

The Wii U Pro Controller is one of the best Nintendo made controllers in recent times. Its sleek design makes it comfortable to hold and easy to access buttons. Not only is its design far superior to the classic controller of the original Wii where it's much easier to hold and not as wide, but Nintendo finally made this one connectable to the Wii U's charging port so you no longer play games with a controller attached at the bottom of a Wii Remote, something I always despised and thought was extremely stupid. I only wish Nintendo gave its players options to use this pad in every game on the Wii U. Unfortunately it wasn't usable on a lot of games that should have allowed it, but I don't blame the controller for that. This is a must have for anyone who likes to bypass the motion or tablet controls gimmicks.

This is a great controller for the Wii U, but it's insanely overpriced. $60 for one controller! That's the price of a newly released game!! I must be spoiled though. I grew up on the old Nintendo systems. NES, Super Nintendo, N64, GameCube... I remember when the games and accessories were dramatically cheaper and EVERYTHING dropped in price DRAMATICALLY after it had been out for a while. These days, you can't find a better deal on the system then $50 off. (On any of the above systems, that would have been a joke 3 years into the life of the system). And the games often don't drop in price either. So I guess this is just how things are done now. Nintendo has taken a cue from other systems and will now charge $60 just for a single controller, when they used to either give you two with the system or offer a second at a very reasonable price. Okay. Guess I have to conform if I want to play.

A purchase for a small percentage of Wii gamers

Most people buying the Wii U are expecting the "family" gaming experience. This controller does nothing to enhance that experience. It is your typical XBox 360 style controller, so as you might assume it is best used with games you play by yourself. You're not playing Mario Kart with this. When I bought the system and noticed it only came with the tablet controller, I started grabbing the Wii Remote controllers. The Best Buy salesman steered me away from those and to this controller. He was dead wrong. A week later I was back spending $120 on Wii Remotes and Nunchuks. This controller just lays around and does nothing. A waste of $50 and it just doesn't fit in the "Wii" experience. If you are a solo gamer that owns all the systems, this is the controller for you. But then I wonder - why play "those" games on Wii when you could just as easily spend the same amount and play them on XBox One or PS4.

I knew it when I bought it, but I didn't realize I'd have such a problem with the button layout. Having the buttons all below the analog stick on the right is just impossible for me to get used to. Every single game system, including Nintendo's (when they've had it at all) have placed the buttons above the analog stick and I've become so used to it, that I simply can't use this layout naturally. If you don't have an issue with that, it seems like a fine controller. I could barely scratch a couple hours using it for AC3, and I had to drop it...ingrained muscle memory is just too deep I guess. It's too bad too, I was looking forward to it...even had Nintendo stayed with the layout for the classic controller, it would have been fine (doesn't have to mimic the 360 or PS3, just close enough that people can transition). I recommend waiting for a third party controller that uses a more standard layout.

Bought this controller with the 3d Mario World bundle. First one I bought didn't work - simply turned on and had one of the knobs permanently stuck in one direction (a common problem for controllers after extensive use). Took it back and explained the problem, got it replaced straightaway. Love it when things are this easy. Bravo Best Buy. The controller itself is great. It fits well into my hands and is super light weight. Feels sturdy enough to hurl through your TV or wall if you put some oomph into it, yet light enough that you don't have to worry about it breaking if you just drop it on the floor. Another plus is that it is rechargeable, so you don't have to put batteries in it constantly if you play a lot of games. The charge lasts a long time, but if it starts to run out of juice you just plug the USB charger it came with into the Wii and keep going.

When we had recently purchased a Wii U for our family we bought 4 of these so each of us had a controller. They are a great option for a controller as opposed to using the original Wii remotes which drive my wife nuts because even though it's an old school feel it's "too advanced" for her. The Wii U pro controller also works with all the old games we grew up on like the old school Mario bros. games that are on the Nintendo store as well as the newer Wii U games. The best feature aside from the common button layout is the battery life. We play several times a week and have had them about a month and have yet to charge them, which is incredible with the battery life on our PS4 and Xbox One co trollers which last a little over a day of we are binging on video games. Overall it's a great controller due to battery life and ease of use.

The Wii U Pro Controller is my favorite gaming controller to date. I've come to greatly prefer the analog stacks being aligned at top, the rumble is very strong if you want, a it's essential for the Virtual Console if you don't want to use the GamePad. The battery is actually the same battery used in the first 3DS model. Of course now since it's only powering this controller, and not screens and processors, the battery life is absolutely incredible (literally lasting months of normal use). The battery is also user replaceable and the controller is charged via USB.

I like the Wii U Gamepad, but it has two issues. First, since it has a screen, it's a bit bulky and heavy. Second, the battery lasts only a few hours before needing to be recharged. For games that don't require the second screen on the Gamepad, or two-player games, this Wii U Pro Controller is awesome. The stick and button placements are the same as the Gamepad's, but it's much lighter, making it more comfortable to hold. And the battery lasts for weeks before needing a recharge. My only disappointment is that the Wii U Pro Controller lacks the internal gyro and motion controls found in the Gamepad and "Wiimote" controllers. However, for games that don't need the second screen or motion controls, the Wii U Pro Controller is awesome.

Wii U Pro Controller an Improvement

The Pro Controller was purchased because Rayman Legends is a game much too complicated for the glorious simplicity of the basic Wiimote. It has a great feel, very similar to that of Xbox 360 controllers, although you will notice the right thumb stick position is swapped with the buttons (it's not a big deal and easy to adapt to the difference). Anyway, the battery life is phenomenal, as we charged it after the purchase and have used it for hours at a time for multiple days without losing power. The one negative is that the charger connection is not a mini-USB, and it's different than the port used to charge the Wii U gamepad as well, so that's a little bit of a pain in the a**. Good thing it doesn't require a lot of charging. A little pricey, but it drastically improved gameplay, so definitely worth it.

When I first bought my Wii U, I never imagined I'd have a need for the pro controller. I usually prefer to spend my video game money on games over peripherals and accessories. However, many users on forums I frequent would not stop raving about the Pro. I watched for a while and waited until I found one cheap and snagged a black one. I fell in love shortly after. Approximately 80 hours per charge, a nice middle ground of thickness between the 360 and PS3 controllers that makes it feel very comfortable, and a simple, elegant finish. My one complaint, and it's more a design direction with the console itself is digital shoulder buttons instead of the pressure sensitive analog ones that are so critical for precision gas and brake controls in racers. Overall though, the Pro is a must have for any Wii U owners.

As a controller, it's excellent with great response. Got it and using it for Zelda breath ... on the Wii U. The problem is not with the controller, but with Nintendo if you also play on the Xbox with the Xbox controller. Why could Nintendo have not had the a b x y buttons in same position and offset as xbox. Even PlayStation uses symbols, but the button positions function as does the Xbox. Would have been nice to either have them the same or at least be able to reprogram and change a b and x y. Aside from that, they work fine and were on sale. I just have to get use to Nintendo again from Xbox buttons. Now I did have a friend who only does Xbox try Zelda with these and he finally gave up in frustration due to the button difference.

An excellent addition for the more action-packed and intense games. I'm accustomed to the style and layout of the xb360 controllers, but even the slight positional change of the action buttons and analog stick on the right are easy to get adjusted to. I can't complain about the battery life, as the item description points out, it's great. But, of course, if you play games constantly and for really long periods of time, no battery life is enough. The controller is very light, as compared to the xb360 controller, which is good. Motion-type sensors would've been great, but the games I've played (i.e., Mario Kart 8) use a combo of the ZL/ZR triggers and/or shoulder buttons to simulate the motion actions. Overall, I really like the pro controller and I hope more support for VC games will come soon.

This controller provides much better control than the Wii U gamepad. The main thing really is the thumb sticks which seem to have more resistance and just feel much easier to move exactly to the level you want better. The buttons are also a lot less mushy feeling compared to the gamepad. The main issue is you do loose the gamepad features when you do so. In some games it's not that big of a deal, like in Smash, Bayonetta and Kart, but other games it's more of an annoyance like Xenoblade X's fast travel, and in other games you really need the touch screen as it's integral to the game. If you liked the Wii Pro controller, I highly recommend this controller, but it really is dependent on games you own and play most often on your Wii U.

This is one of the best controllers I have ever used. I have used the Xbox 360 controller on my PC and a Dual Shock 3 for several games, but this one beats them all in terms of comfort. I have average sized hands and it fits perfectly. It is also light-weight compared to the Xbox controller and can easily be held with one hand comfortably if you want to be very lazy during travel sections of games. The battery life on this thing is unreal. I believe it says up to 80 hours, but it may very well be more. This is the only controller I have ever just set down when I'm done and never feared it being dead when I decide to play again days later. I now only use the gamepad when the game requires it for mechanics that use the screen or the gyro.
