It is such a blessing to have- I had to sell a lot of my games. I was able to get a lot of them back, and they are all downloaded and ready to play. I have so much space left and I am able to get a lot more games with the space I have. Makes the switch 2 a even better experience.

It's specifically designed to address the storage needs of the Nintendo Switch 2, particularly for downloading and playing larger games. I needed a micro as card for my switch 2 however the one I had for my switch 1 wasn’t compatible. But I saw this card that would work and it does! I have more storage to keep my games in and it’s great knowing I have room for more. Only problem is the price is bit high but other than that it does the job.

The Verdict: Officially Licensed and Fast Enough
The Nintendo-licensed Samsung 256GB microSD Express card is an excellent, reliable expansion for the Nintendo Switch 2. It offers a huge performance leap over the older UHS-I cards used with the original Switch and matches the speed requirements of the Switch 2's faster internal storage. While it may not boast the absolute highest theoretical speed compared to some competitors, its official licensing, trusted brand name, and sufficient performance make it a top recommendation for most users.
Performance and Speed (4/5 Stars)
The Samsung microSD Express card is a necessity for the Switch 2, as the new console only accepts the faster microSD Express standard.
• Read Speed: The card is rated for sequential read speeds of up to 800MB/s. This speed is a massive upgrade from the old Switch cards (which typically maxed out around 100MB/s) and is close to the speed of the Switch 2's internal UFS 3.1 storage. In practical terms, this means games stored on the card will load and run with virtually no noticeable difference compared to games stored internally.
• Write Speed: The officially licensed version has a specified write speed of up to 400MB/s. While other competitor cards (like Lexar) might offer higher write speeds (up to 600MB/s), 400MB/s is more than sufficient for downloading new games, installing updates, and copying data from the console's internal storage. This is likely the speed optimized for the Switch 2 system.
The takeaway: The card delivers the performance needed to run even the most demanding Switch 2 titles seamlessly.
Capacity and Value (3.5/5 Stars)
• Capacity: The 256GB capacity effectively doubles the Switch 2’s usable storage (since the console itself has 256GB, with around 249GB usable). For gamers who buy primarily physical cartridge games and a few digital titles, this is an ideal starting point.
• Capacity Limitation: For gamers who buy exclusively digital games, especially large AAA titles (which can exceed 20GB-60GB each), 256GB will fill up quickly. Larger capacities (512GB or 1TB) are available from other brands like Lexar and Samsung's own P9 Express line, but the Nintendo-licensed version currently caps out at 256GB.
• Pricing: The typical retail price hovers around $60 USD, though it often drops to $39–$45 during sales, making it competitive with other 256GB microSD Express options.
The takeaway: It offers great introductory value, but heavy digital users may need to look for higher-capacity, non-licensed alternatives later on.
Features and Reliability (5/5 Stars)
• Official Licensing: This is a major selling point. Being "Officially Licensed for Nintendo Switch 2" guarantees seamless compatibility and takes away any worry about performance or installation issues.
• Aesthetics: The card features attractive, officially licensed Super Mario branding (often with a distinctive Mario red color scheme and the "M" logo), which is a nice cosmetic touch.
• Durability: Samsung is known for robust memory, and this card features six-proof durability, including resistance to water, temperature extremes, X-rays, magnets, drops, and wear-out.
• Warranty: It is typically backed by a 3-year limited warranty, offering peace of mind.
Final Recommendation
Buy this card if:
1. You prioritize guaranteed, official Nintendo licensing and the peace of mind that comes with it.
2. You primarily purchase physical game cartridges and only need storage for updates, DLC, and a handful of digital titles.
3. You find it priced around $39–$45 USD (a frequent sale price).
Consider alternatives if:
1. You are a heavy digital gamer and need more than 500GB of storage.
2. You need the absolute fastest theoretical speeds (look at Lexar Play Pro).
