A collection of some of the SNES' best

The SNES classic offers variety in the game types (platformers, sports games, rpgs), making it a good introduction to the system itself without having to hunt down an original snes, modify it to display a decent picture on modern TVs, and spending a fortune on amassing this collection (as of 11/30/18 some copies of Earthbound, which is included in the classic edition, sell at over $160 us dollars). The only negatives on this package would be the included usb power adapter, and the controllers. The usb power adapter's cord length is short making it something that has to stay close to an outlet, which depending on your set up can be difficult (though the cord can be used as a regular usb cable and can get power from a tv with usb ports). The power adapter's plug to a regular outlet is longer than regular plugs and rounded, meaning that it can take up more space in a surge protector. There is nothing wrong with the feel and build quality of the two included controllers, the problems with them are a lack of a home button and the length of the controller cords. The reason the lack of home buttons is an issue, is to get back to the main menu or making a save state, it requires getting up, hitting the reset switch and waiting for the system to reload. A wii classic or pro controller can be used which has a home button since it has the same plugs. The controller cords, like with the included usb cable are short as well, but controller extenders are available.

Like many people in my age range, I had the original SNES console when it came out and have fond memories of playing several of the games included in this version as well as a few that were left out. There are also many games included that I had never played before. For me some of the highlights are Mario Kart, "Super C" (Contra), Super Ghouls & Ghosts and Final Fantasy III. I would have liked tor "UN Squadron" to be included and I was hoping that this console would have the ability to play original SNES cartridges, so it was a disappointment to discover that it was limited to the pre-installed games. However, upon doing some research online it seems that there is a workaround which may allow users to install ROMs from their favorite SNES games. It is a lot of fun to revisit the game titles of my youth, and for those with children it could be nice ot introduce them to what video games were like when we were kids. The real value in this item is the bundled game titles. I wouldn't pay $79.99 for an obsolete console, but if it includes half a dozen games that I know I like and a few others that I haven't tried but mgiht be promising, the price looks more and more appealing, especially considering that current generation games are priced at $59.99 each when they are released.

Let me start off by saying that more likely than not anyone who's bought this already probably has nostalgic and emotional ties to the Super Nintendo. I think it's a great gift for any Nintendo fan who's looking to reminisce of the 90's. It's nice that it comes with two controllers unlike the NES Classic which had one. The few gripes I have with it are that the cords for the controllers are pretty short. I guess they want players to get the full nostalgic experience by having to play right in front of the TV. Get some cord extensions on Amazon or at Best Buy for a more enjoyable experience. It comes with the never released StarFox 2 which is really nice, but the game selection still leaves something to be desired. Nintendo offers the essentials with Nintendo icons like Zelda, Mario, StarFox, Donkey Kong, Kirby. Also offers Street Fighter, Contra, Secrets of Mana, and Final Fantasy. Just disappointing that they could've easily added more games to the system considering the hackers are able to add dozens of more games to it easily. It's a great buy but I completely understand anyone who doesn't jump on this due to the price tag plus these games will more than likely be on the eventual Switch Virtual Console

The NES classic was a great idea which added some nice QOL benefits, such as save-states, and this system builds on those. There is now the ability to rewind, which is fantastic. The visuals look great on HD televisions with crisp, clean graphics. I only have two complaints. One is the controller length. The controller cord is a little longer than the NES classic version, but still not long enough and requires an extension cable, which are fairly cheap. My other complaint is the game diversity. The games included are fantastic, but I wish there was a little more variety, particularly sports games. The SNES was the last system I really played sports games on and it would have been nice to have classics such as NBA Jam, Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball, Baseball Simulator, or Super Tecmo Bowl, among others. I thought it was a missed opportunity not to include those games (though I imagine licensing issues may have something to do with it, just a guess). Either way, if anyone is able to get their hands on one of these, I'd still suggest picking it up since the games that are included are fantastic.

BACK IN THE EARLY 90'S I ALWAYS WANTED A SUPER NINTEDO SYSTEM. MY FRIEND HAD ONE, BUT I HAD A GENESIS. I USED TO LOVE TO GO OVER HIS HOUSE AND PLAY THE GREATS: FZERO, STARFOX, MARIO WORLD. SUPER METROID ETC. AFTER THE CLASSIC NES DROPPED I WAITED AND WAITED, LO AND BEHOLD NINTENDO DROPS THIS BEAUTY. LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE A SNES BUT SMALLER. ALL MY FAVORITE GAMES ARE THERE. INCLUDING: SUPER CONTRA AND STREET FIGHTER 2 TURBO WHICH BOTH STILL STAND THE TEST OF TIME. I PUT IN THE 30 MAN CODE AND GET TO IT. WHICH IS: Press Right, Down, Down-Right, Right, Start in a smooth motion. THANK ME LATER. GREAT GIFT FOR KIDS BOTH BIG AND SMALL. MY ONLY GRIPE IS THAT THE CONTROLLER CORDS ARE WAY, WAY TO SHORT. DEF MUST HAVE IF YOU LOVE CLASSIC GAMES.

I grew up playing Nintendo, Game Boy, Super Nintendo, Gamecube, N64, so when this was announced I was very interested in purchasing it. The only problem is I think there should be double the number of games on these "classic" systems for the price you pay. It's not like Nintendo will release a SNES 2 with completely different games from the current one, this will probably be all you can get until they decide to make an ultimate game system where there are numerous games from numerous systems that you can play in one library. Another plus is now younger kids can play true games from the past without having to invest it older game cartridges and systems, and they only have to pay ONCE and never again, unless the system breaks.

Ok, I didn't give it 5stars because They could have put more games on this little unit. I know that you can Flash the Machine and add more Roms but that is in a Legal Grey Area, and it take abit to do so. And you could brick your Game Machine. But for what it does it Does Really Good Emulate the Super Nintendo. If you want to play your Game Carts go buy a Analogue SuperNT it replicates the Super Nintendo Hardware Perfectly and Plays all Carts. It is about twice the Price of this but well worth it if you want to play it like you remember it. But in all if you just want to reminisce and play some games from your Childhood this will do a great job. It doesn't Skip or Tear. It offers scan lines to simulate the old TV's.

I’m not the largest fanboy, I do enjoy the concept, I have a two year old child that doesn’t play video games, yet... The idea was to give him something that would bring us close when he decided too, so it’s been nice, freshening up on the optional titles for that day but Nintendo, in my honest opinion didn’t do much by way of providing a quality overlay with this console. I feel as if when you choose to officially take something like this out of the vault then you’ve gotta our the software together in a way that is eons better than that of your competitors that do it strictly for name recognition and for the love of development. Not bad, just not perfectly articulated in a way that would make you feel that their all was put into every aspect of the experience.

I bought this system out of nostalgia. The classic Super Nintendo Entertainment system is iconic of the time. Coupled with the near identical design (albeit smaller) to the original, are the games that made a generation. Star Fox and F-Zero just to name a few, the games pack the same enjoyment they did during that age. One thing that I thought could of been changed is that while the system is supposed to mimic the original, on an HDTV some games are very pixelated. I think if they were going to bring back the system, they could of updated the games to look good on the current generation of TV's. I guess the replication of the original was the point. It's been replicated almost exactly. It's just too bad that the idea backfires visually.

System is exactly as advertised and plays just like the original 1980's system. Why only 4 stars? I knew from previous reviews that there would be two areas that I would be disappointed in. (1) there are some games not included that I miss ... but I knew this in advance. (2) I would need an extension for the controller (I also knew this in advance). However, even though I knew about these two areas in advance, it reflects poorly on the manufacture because: (1) memory is cheap and every game made to play on the original could have easily been loaded on. (2) The cord length of the included controller basically renders the system unplayable until you add an extension; which is fairly cheap to do.

This unit was super easy to use and carried a good majority of the games you'd be hoping for in an SNES system. Gameplay is solid. Two things hold it back from being perfect: 1. The cords are too short. Sure, you can purchase extension cords, but that's an extra purchase out of pocket that you weren't expecting initially. Unless you're sitting directly on top of your TV, the 6' cables won't be long enough. 2. You need to get up to reset to a new game. I know, I know, it's a throwback to when you physically needed to get up and place a new game into the console. But the fact that it's 2018 and there's no way to reset back to the main menu without physically resetting it feels... weird.

This little gadget provides great, throwback fun. If you're looking to enjoy some gaming from the Golden Age, and not something that involves hyper realistic exit wounds with all the associated gore, then this would likely be worth your while. Sure there will be people who gripe about the game selection and lament the omission of this, that or the other, but all things considered it's a pretty good kit...especially if you don't have a functioning original console with accompanying games laying around. My only real gripe is that the cords are too short to be functional. We don't play on 20" tube televisions anymore and sit a little farther away. I recommend picking up some of the extension cords along with this.

Perfect little system for anyone who doesn't want to mess around with emulators and ROMs. It works great for what it intended to do, which is play old SNES games (limited only to the ones already on the system) and relive games of yesteryear. All of the games handle and play great. These are exactly how they were released originally, and it helps to have the original styled controller to play them with. The only complaint I have with this system is not having the ability to add more games (properly) or use the original cartridges as well. Allowing use of the original cartridges would keep it from being as small as it is though. Overall, just like the NES Classic, I'm very happy with this product! If you can find one in stock, pick it up! You'll love it!

Once availability for this opened up a bit last month, I jumped on the opportunity to finally pick this up. IMO, the SNES is the finest system ever made, and most of the games on this have aged magnificently. However, speaking of the games, where is Pilotwings? Turtles in Time and Final Fight would have also been great to have, especially considering other Capcom titles are on here. No Chrono Trigger is perhaps the most glaring omission. The selection on here is great, don't get me wrong (although I prefer Super Street Fighter II to Hyper Fighting, due to the superior character selection list), but the omissions, mixed with the super short controller cables, prevent me from giving this the highest possible recommendation.

The SNES classic offers a great selection of some of the best games of the early 90's. Great for old guys (or gals) like myself who grew up playing these games and the games are still fun for kids/teens today. If your favorite games aren't included, there may be mods available online which could allow you to install those game ROMS. My only issues with the system are that the controller cables are fairly short, you can't use original SNES game cartridges on the console and not ALL of my old favorites were included among the bundled games. You can buy extension cables for the controllers though and the number of great games that are included make it a good value.

First of all, it was relatively easy to get one, no scalpers, no waiting in line, so my experience even getting it was better than many’s. I also like how it comes with 2 controllers, for co op play. The cords are a little short, but an $8 extender fixes that right up, or the more expensive wireless options also work. As for the unit itself, it’s great. All the games are nicely organized, and the suspend feature is awesome, if inconvenient requiring you to physically press a button on the unit. Same with changing games. Also, while the collection is solid, it could be better. We could do without Ghouls n Goblins, and I’m shocked Chrono Trigger is not included. Still, for $80 it’s a great buy for nostalgic fans

The interface is nice and the few games I’ve tried play and look like they did on the original SNES. The controllers are nice, and I appreciate that two were included this time (only 1 in the NES Classic). Overall it’s great, but kind of pricey. For the price, it’s a little corny how the front of it is a facade - it’s a cheap plastic cover that opens on a hinge to reveal the actual controller ports. There’s also a warning on the power cable that says to unplug it when it’s not in use, which is kind of a pain. There are various other ways you can play SNES games if you know what you’re doing, but this might be the best way since the original.

Although the game list is considerably shorter than the NES classic, the 16-bit mini comes with an extra controller so you're off to the races right out of the box. The menus are well done and the save/rewind features are great luxuries not afforded to us in the old days. I do think the controllers are -just like the NES classic- a little light weight compared to the originals, but maybe I'm being picky. Personally I had to go for an EU model as that's what I had growing up. The design of the North American SNES was just dreadful.

If you grew up playing the SNES, this is a must-have. For the cheap price, it will bring you hours of enjoyment which makes it well worth it. The console itself though has several well-known flaws... the biggest is the short length of the controllers. You can now get some pretty good after market ones (8BITDO is recommended) but they should really be included with the console. There's also some key games missing for a collection that is meant to represent the best games on the console. It's a good buy but be warned you have to also purchase two wireless controllers and you may have to hack it to get more games.

Let's start with the first major flaw, just to get that out of the way - the controller cords are too darn short. Unless you plan on shelling out extra dough for the extenders or a wireless option, you will be sitting awfully close to your TV. My other complaint, and this may very well be only a personal opinion, but Kirby's Dream Course was a very poor choice for this collection. There were so many better games they could have included instead of that mess...oh well. Over all, this is a great collection of games and will bring you right back to the 90's with hours of fun to be had.
