Re-Engaged love of e-"BIKE" riding like a kid

Having owned a Polestar 2 electric vehicle for a period of time and re-engaging with the love of driving; instant torque, insane acceleration, and environmental benefits, my expectations are unreasonably high for an electrified bike.
TL;DR it succeeded re-engaging my love of bike riding after decades from the hobby.
I was out of town when the box was delivered on front porch, told my wife just carry to the garage. She sent a pic and it was much larger than i expected. She felt the weight and as the box recommends, this is a two person job, both in moving the box, as well as assembly.
The bike was carefully packed, all body frame surfaces were wire tied, all surface paint nicely wrapped in soft styrofoam. The base of the package contains a large block that the back tire (pre-assembled to frame) sits in and balances the bike while you cut all wire ties (careful not to snip brake line or electrical feeding the computer).
Important tip, take the keys from the pouch and remove both batteries to start the 5-hour charge process, and to reduce much of the weight.
The computer is attached to the handlebars with a bundle of cabling, though the bars aren’t attached in the shipping container, so it was a bit cumbersome having to navigate them dangling with fear of damaging the wiring harness.
Once out of the styrofoam supports the kickstand won’t work until the front tire is on. Assembly was more involved than I’d hope, though the hour it took my biking buddy and me was mostly spent on trying to adjust the front brake from rubbing. It’s a single piston disc brake, so just one side of the calipers moves as the handbrake is pulled. After much frustration we called it good trying to find a spot of minimal rub.
When we tested the rear wheel that was already attached we got the same thing, and can’t adjust it out, so I’ll have to plan a bike shop trip to hopefully remove the warp on each disc.
Attaching handlebars to the gooseneck required loosening the computer sliding it out of the way in an awkward manner.
Once assembled operation is straightforward, easy and intuitive. Simply hold the power button for 2 seconds and the bright LED headlight illuminates, while the computer screen turns on. Below the power button are an up and down electronic “gear shifter” or max speed control, which cycles through speeds 1 to 3.
The right grip has the throttle to provide power. My first ride I thought I’d pedal up the driveway to the road. Not so, the extreme 70 pound weight of the bike (mostly 2 battery packs) prevented me from doing so, but shifting up to 1 with full throttle helped get me to the street.
That’s where the e-bike came alive. You’re free to pedal solo, pedal assist, or not pedal at all. While it doesn’t accelerate as snappy as the Polestar 2, it gets pretty quick, while I didn’t get to 28mph max speed mid 20s was faster than I’ve ever “rode” before. I’d suggest a bike helmet for street riding.
Note: The original spec stated 62 mile range, but in the US (where eBikes are less restrictive than UK, elsewhere) they’re now using larger batteries capable of producing an impressive 90-mile range.
Pros
+ Fun Factor
+ VIdeo guided instruction
+ Environment friendly
+ Practical Transportation
+ Low near zero maintenance
+ Puncture resistant Kevlar coated tires
+ Carbon belt (avoid greasy chain)
+ Releasable batteries to charge indoor
+ Y-cable to charge both simultaneously
+ double keys one for each battery security
Cons
-heavy weight trying to pedal uphill
-3 speed single drive vs gear shift for climbing hills
-assembly takes patience (use video instead)
-lacks front fork suspension
-could be more peppy like an EV car
-heavy, hard to pedal uphill without drive activated
-both front and back wheels rub, limited adjustability
-single piston brake limits adjustments variability
Conclusion
*high expectations lead to initial frustration during assembly due to both front and rear disc brakes rubbing, but once assembled and acclimated this bike is pure fun and helped me re-engage with the love of bike riding (but without all the work)
If you’re an extreme mountain biker the 70 pound weight and lack of 7 or 10 gear shifter would severely challenge, but if you’re looking for an electric transportation device that’s fun to ride yet practical and economical then you may like to give this a try.
Recommend Buy, but expect a trip to the bike shop to straighten the disc brakes.

When FedEx pulls up and drops off this box, you will quickly find it's pretty heavy, so you may want to recruit a neighbor's assistance. It's about 90 pounds if I recall. Assembly was straightforward but tedious, especially aligning the front wheel and brake. As you screw in the handlebar, make sure you tighten the 4 screws evenly and make sure the "bullseye" icon faces forward. Once it was assembled, I took it for a spin.
What a blast! I've only ever rode road bikes, so being able to fly along with no (or minimal) pedal effort is amazing. The 3 "speeds" correspond to how fast you want to go. I found that "speed" 2 is best for tooling around the neighborhood. Put it on 3 and start pedaling...you can get to 29 mph with ease. The LCD display shows several metrics and does track how much you pedal (assist or otherwise) in the form of kcal burned. If you aren't pedaling, it won't track manual stats, obviously.
The design is really nice and the V frame is certainly unique. Regarding the brakes I feel like they should have put hydraulic brakes on this, but the included ones do the job. The weight of the bike and rider (I'm 160 lbs) is definitely noticeable while turning and braking. The head/tail lights are nice and the circle halo on the front is pretty unique looking.
Even though I haven't ever owned an eBike, I can tell this bike that it's more suited for power/assisted bicycling versus one with multiple gears. The "chain" is pretty genius but takes some getting used to. If you are already traveling fast (say, 20 mph) and you start to vigorously pedal, you will feel a "spinout" from the pedal and gears. What I've found, ironically, is the bike will fly if you just pedal gently. When on #3 assist, you can pedal very slow and be racing along at like 26 mph. It's kind of amazing, honestly.
I'm not sure how to address a flat tire if I'm out stuck somewhere, but I imagine parts would be sold directly by NIU and that a basic patch kit will work. It just feels like parts for this are so specific and unlikely to be stocked by your local bike shop, so keep that in mind. I could be wrong, however.
Overall, this is one of the best things I've owned in a while. Been biking my whole life but at 44 I am starting to feel it...being able to sit there and be "driven" by your bicycle at a moment's notice with zero effort is pretty sweet. I've been ~30 miles in so far (weather been bad) and the batteries are at like 70%. That's impressive.
Put it this way, my wife immediately said we have to buy her one now. Life's too short to miss out on fun times together, and this eBike certainly fills a missing void we never realized we had.
Highly recommended!

Love the bike but there is a few things to be aware before buying. 1. It says it will go up to 90 miles on a charge, it will not. Fully charged on setting three pedal assist going the 27.8 mph you may get about 30 miles. 2. There is zero suspension so if you are riding on bumpy or rough roads it is not the bike for you. 3.If you just use throttle it will only go 20 mph. 4. I upgraded the seat already because it was uncomfortable. 5. If you are looking to pedal this bike without pedal assist. It is a bit hard because it is belt driven and there is no gears so you can only pedal so fast before it feels like you’re just paddling with zero resistance. Also looking to upgrade the front forks to have some suspension. Overall though the bike is a good time and a lot of fun.

Excellent range. Two batteries attached to bike, do not have to carry a battery in a bike bag. Easy pedaling even without motor assist.
Well built bicycle and very easy to assemble even if someone has very little skill at assembling big TOYS.

We purchased two of these e-bikes, besides missing the keys to swap out the batteries. We loved the bikes at first. One bike developed a lot of movement between the handlebar and the fork. We reached out to niu support and after a few days they asked for pictures. After sending pictures they wanted us to return the scooter to the store. After 3 more emails and 11 days later I was able to make them realize it was not a scooter at all. This back and forth went on for days as they tried to verify the e-bike and when I had purchased it. After proof of sale vin number and 21 pictures later they informed me that shipping it back to their service facility was the best option. This bike is huge, heavy and I was in not way going to ship this to anyone. Both wheels came out of the box out of true. Local bike store fixed that for a fee. One week later brake error came up in the screen. Tried agajn with tech support. 4 days later again they asked us to ship the bike. Niu does not have good support. The cost of the bike is alot and should have good support. We ended up returning to the store.

I really like it, now that I’ve learned how to ride it! Acceleration is really good using the peddle assist 25 mph consistently and 27.8 top speed. The only downside is no front suspension! If our streets were in better condition it wouldn’t be an issue! As an in town commute bike it’s a quality built bike that’s been well designed!

My grandson picked his bike out as a birthday gift a little difficulty, putting it together only because nuts and bolts don’t put the tires on is what they screw lever same with the seat same with the handlebars, but pretty easy to install. My grandson loves it. he now has a little independence.

Do not buy this bike. For following reason,
1. Speed limit is 20 on motor and with assist it is 21, unless you are lance Armstrong with added magic it may take you to 24.
2. The tires are way too low quality, they will not grip.
3. The motor is out within few months, and best buy has only 14 day return, and good luck with Niu support.
4. It does not have suspension. So good luck to your back.
5. It's better to burn 2K, rather than buying this low quality bike and getting frustrated

So far so good. Tires aren’t as wide as I was hoping and it did not go together as easily as the video shows BUT it performs up to spec. Very easy to ride and extremely quick. Top speed is actually a little faster than stated. Charging is quick and easy and the build is very solid. I have had no issues with the fender at all. Read the manual for all the tips and tricks

Disappointing. Best Buy has an ugly restocking fee yet offers no way to actually test drive e-Bikes. This bike's #1 problem is that it has only 1 gear and that gear is completely inappropriate for anyone who actually wants to ride it at any speed above SLOW. If I were able to test drive it, I would have learned that before buying it. I buy e-bikes because I want to go, far, fast, without worry of demotivating hills, or getting embarrassingly lapped by olympic medalists on their 24-speeds and spandex jumpsuits, but I also want something resembling EXERCISE and this bike offers NONE of that.
This bike get's an extra STAR because it goes fast. And a STAR for having built-in headlights and taillights. I'm not convinced about it's advertised range of 90 miles... maybe if you weigh 90 lbs and leave it at assist level 1... but remember that at assist level 0 all bikes have infinite range. All I can tell you at this point is that I used 33% battery without going very far at all... 7.6 miles, fast.
The top speed of 28mph is difficult to achieve if you weight more than 90lbs because it has only a 500W motor. I managed to get it up to 25mph given a long flat stretch, but anything more than that I had to be going downhill.. and an unpowered bike can go 28mph downhill. Try before you buy. Difficult to unpack and repack if you don't like it... and then they're going to charge you hundreds of dollars just to discover that this is a piece of garbage!

Took it for a road test and rode 2 miles one way using pedals half of the time. At the end of the round trip of 4 miles there was ONLY 80% of the charge in BOTH batteries left! The 4 miles ride used up 20% of charge in each battery!
That's 10% for every 2 miles, which equals ONLY to 20 miles distance on fully charged batteries until they are completely depleted, not 90 miles.
Keep in mind that fully depleting your ebike batteries to 0% is not recommended as it will shorten your battery's life span, not to mention you don't want to ride your ebike back home with depleted batteries.
So, Not even 20 miles out of it, but more like 16 miles if I use 80% of the batteries.
This e-bike is great, solid, big and heavy, easy to get on and off but can't ride too far out because of the problem with batteries.
Conclusion:
Unfortunately, must have gotten lemon batteries that discharge at an unbelievably fast rate, which is frankly disappointing cause I really like the bike regardless of it not being top notch.
Great ebike, but mine gets
Only 16 mile range using 80% of batteries with pedal assistance, which limits me to how far out I can cruise and must monitor the batteries all the time.

My bike will only travel up to a distance of 45 miles, not the 90 miles they claim. And will only go 26.5 mph, power cutting out. In this ad, says front suspension, WRONG! This bike has zero suspension, feeling every bump (I trashed the seat, installing a new one with springs). The headlamp is useless at night, not seeing anything in front of the bike, and the taillight doesn't work. The front disc rotor doesn't center in the brake caliper, constant rubbing against the inner brake pad, making a lot of noise. This bike is only good for riding on level roads, will not climb hills. For the overall poor quality, it's way over priced.

This eBike is well built and even better yet extremely well designed. The belt drive is quiet, efficient, clean and low maintenance. Much like my experience on motorcycle applications. Dual batteries which can be swapped out for spares extends range if desired. Voltage, motor size (watts) and battery amp hour ratings along with flat screen instrumentation are up there with the what the competition offers as top of the line at a lot less up front price.
