2014's Now You See Me was an unexpected hit that made $351 million worldwide on a budget of $75 million and so here we are, two years later, with what is ultimately an unnecessary sequel. There is no need for this movie to exist, there was no reason for these characters to have another similar adventure to that of the one they experienced in the first film and yet, because the dollars dictate it, The Four Horsemen have returned to give us another trip through the secret world of magicians and to point out just how detached from reality they've become if they think they can trick us into believing magicians would ever garner the kind of media attention they do here. I digress, but I can't help but to be a little perturbed by the fact there is a sequel to a film that was a perfectly smart and entertaining one off story that will now forever be tarnished by the existence of this unnecessary successor. In short, NYSM2 is a whole lot of nonsense that doesn't necessarily go anywhere meaningful or comment on anything relevant, but in its defense is something of a crowd-pleaser. It is easy to see the broad appeal of what is at play here as all of the actors are engaging and clearly audiences enjoyed the first one enough to presumably show up and give what is essentially more of the same their money. NYSM2 is a sequel in the tradition of those retreaded sequels that used to be the norm, before the whole expanded universe thing came along, and thus could serve as an example under the definition of guilty pleasure. There is nothing particularly fresh this movie intends to do with the premise and character traits that were defined in the first film, but more NYSM2 desires to expand upon story aspects of the original to the point they no longer make as much sense or hold as much weight as they once did when this was a contained story. There might be new characters played by Daniel Radcliffe and Lizzy Caplan, but they aren't really new-they're just excuses to tread the same water the first film did with updated facades meant to trick the audience into thinking this sequel has something new and exciting to offer. Don't be fooled. There isn't much to see here. Though the film is more consistently funny than I expected and the rapport between the actors even smoother than before the final product still feels more like a magician blowing hot air at their audience for two hours rather than actually daring to dazzle us.

I thought the first "Now You See Me" was pretty enjoyable, for being a mainstream Hollywood "popcorn flick." My expectations for the sequel were not nearly as high after seeing the trailer (and missing it during its initial theatrical run--my first viewing was after purchasing the BluRay)...and that's a good thing, because the sequel falls well-flat of the original. Most of the original cast is back (minus Isla Fisher as Henley and a few of the cop characters from the first film), and replacement Horseman Lula (played by Lizzy Caplan) holds her own, but she fails to fill the void left by Henley's departure. As is usually the case, the sequel tries (too) hard to be bigger, badder and more spectacular than the original. It really does try too hard to "be its own man" and free itself from the shadow of the previous installment. There are new villains, familiar faces, the presence of "The Eye" (that never pays off), and tricks that are just getting to be too epic to be remotely possible outside the world of CG effects (or actual magic, which we all know doesn't really exist). While the story is decent, it's a bit more convuluted than the original, with some glaring plot holes that really shuts down the "suspension of disbelief" that movie watchers are supposed to experience. The finale of one of the main plot/character arcs involving Morgan Freeman and Mark Ruffalo is almost absurd to the point of being comical. It's not terrible...it just suffers from "sequelitis." Like all modern BluRay releases, the quality of the picture is lovely and the audio (and surround sound options) are more than adequate. There were a decent amount of special features included, but I haven't had the time to explore them adequately up to this point. Bottom line, if you're a die-hard fan of the original, then there's a very good chance that you'll enjoy this film and won't regret purchasing it. If you're merely curious about seeing it, I recommend saving some money and renting this one. Two stars.

Almost everyone from “Now You See Me”, returns in “Now You See Me 2”, except for Henley Reeves who is replaced with Lula May. While the film is fun to watch, there is a huge difference (at least in the beginning), in that “The Horsemen”, who were always two steps ahead of everyone else in the first film, and could seemingly do no wrong, suddenly can’t seem to do anything right. They are forced into the service of Walter Mabry (Daniel Radcliffe), to help him regain his stolen business. And that’s when things start to turn back around. Sequels have a tendency to be kind of a replay of the original. Not this time. A great storyline, that connects to some of the subplots of the previous film, and resolves them. Lot’s of surprises, and well worth adding to your library.

A sequel can never be the original, and rarely are they as good as the original as they are frequently made just to capitalize on the success of the first film. Here we have the same characters (minus Isla Fisher as Henley Reeves) from the first film doing what they, as the Horsemen, do. As we expect, their productions are elaborate, their illusions are grand, and their adventure is filled with twists that actually bring even more satisfaction to the original by adding another layer to a story that you thought you already knew. Also, the addition of Lizzy Caplan as Lula May was a bonus. Caplan is funny and delivers a performance that seems very natural for her. If they make another one it would be a mistake to not include Caplan. Ultimately, as a sequel, Now You See Me 2 delivers what one wants to see in a sequel and it does it with the right dose of humor, action, and adventure, and the ending is reasonably satisfying.

If you are a fan of the first "Now You See Me" film, you will really enjoy this follow-up. It is definitely a movie where you should have seen the first one to follow and properly understand the characters. Picking up where the first film left off, the Horsemen are in hiding, but emerge with a new plan. Things are not as they seem, of course, and the plot takes off from there. The cast is bigger, but the acting is great. I was skeptical with the loss of Isla Fisher, but Lizzy Caplan brings her own character into the story, and she is a welcome addition. I didn't feel like she was just a replacement for the female lead, but a very likable and important part of the team in her own right. Daniel Radcliff brings his own new character into play and performs the heck out of it. The effects are spectacular, and the twists are impressive, as you would expect. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, but only if you've seen the first

As is all too common, this is a sequel which just didn't quite match up to its predecessor. I really enjoyed Now You See Me, despite the fact that the illusions were noticibly CGI-produced. It still had that fun heist-style movie feel, and a few good twists to the story. In NYSM2, there's just something missing (besides Isla Fisher's character). There's a few twists here and there, although I had to roll my eyes at a couple of them (especially one of the reveals of a certain character's true identity). Probably my biggest frustration is how rushed the ending felt, specifically during the buildup to the finale, where it felt like the audience is getting shorted a few scenes of the magicians plying their trade, which is half the fun of this type of film. I hope they bring it back to the spirit if the first film with the next one (as word is they've already started production on it).

I really enjoyed this sequel. The four Horsemen have been underground after the first movie. Henley, the female character, is replaced by a new character who is equally funny and charming and can match wits with the other three horseman very easily. The stunts are amazing and exciting. Michael Caine reprises his role as corrupt billionaire with the added twist of his son, Daniel Radcliffe. It seems ironically appropriate that Daniel Radcliffe is in a modern version of a magic styled movie. This movie offers impossibly intricate tricks and the four Horsemen escape in impossibly intricate Waze. He and even some questions are answered in this movie that are fun and heartwarming. I hope this is only the second in a trilogy or more of movies like this.

The sequel suffers from multiple jumps of logic, too many lead character not getting none of their stories fleshed out, the villian is the same as the last movie and seems less believable. The new female lead has some humor but never shows anything incredible. For being a movie about magicians there was nothing new or magical about the movie. for example, in the original now you see me they have the scene where they are interviewing the lead magician and he incredibly flings off the handcuffs, handcuffs the interviewers and then puts the key inside the can of coke, it was cool, never seen before, and unique. the sequel never does any of that. they show some cool tricks but never show any magic tricks.

I enjoyed the first movie quite a bit, while I wasn't blown away, it was a great movie and a fun time all around, and I was fairly surprised when I heard it was getting a sequel. I would've went to the theater, but didn't want to alone and no one I know was interested in going, so I waited until it came out and bought the steelbook at release. In short, don't bother. It loses a lot of what made the first great, tries to go overboard with twists and turns that don't make sense, and is just a plain disappointment compared to the first. I'm not sure if a third is planned, but I'll likely be skipping it. As for the steelbook itself, it's a fairly barebones steelbook, nothing impressive.

If you saw and enjoyed the first film. You'll love the 2nd. Everything is bigger, including the illusions and they expended the story. As you see in the box art they replaced the female horseman with a new one, long story short, she wanted out and the 'Eye' gave it to her. They picked up a new female member to balance out the group. While the film still focuses on illusions and magic while being promised real magic if they prove themselves. They do expand the story, the last film was a test and in this one they have to prove worthy. The film does have twist and turns, some that can't be guessed and recurring characters while still keeping the momentum of a chase film and being fun.

If you were paying attention to the first move, you'll understand what unanswered questions posed in the first which forms some of the basis of the sequel. I've found that the sequel gets better the more times I watch it and watching the first then the second over time carries the continuity of the story. Lizzie Caplan was an interesting replacement for Isla Fisher - not as sexy, but different. Cross story lines and characters (including Woody playing 2 roles) perhaps may have added some complexity to the storyline, but the card stealing sequence was a gem. As well, it was nice to see Mark Ruffalo have an expanded role in magic.

I liked this movie, but I thought the first one was much better. Yes, we get many unanswered questions from the first movie addressed, but it lacked the fire the first movie had. I felt the dumb FBI agent was too overdone and the cast wasn’t as congealed as the first. However, it had some wonderful tricks, slight of hand and illusions that fans of magic will appreciate. If you liked the first movie, definitely watch this one, just don’t expect the same wow factor that number one pulled out of the hat.

I was a huge fan of the first film, love the plot, love the script, love the cast. The 2nd film did fall a little short. I still enjoy it, but it didn’t have that magic that the first film had. 1st of all I was not a fan of the new girl they brought in to replace the original. She wasn’t very funny and a little awkward and weird. 2nd there is an evil twin the film. And the twin is horrible. Really why in the world did they do that, it is so stupid and really takes away from the movie. Despite theses negative things I still love the magic of the film and overlook them to enjoy and get into it.

As a big fan of the first movie, I was excited to be able to see the sequel. While it does retain much of the feel of the first, it's missing that "special" feel that the first one had. The female character has been replaced, and the character played by Daniel Radcliffe is a good addition, although you might not think so at first. We learn a little more of Lionel Shrike's story, and that's a good thing. Overall, I think this is definitely worth seeing. In fact, I think I need to watch it a few more times to pick up the subtleties, and that's why I bought it.

If you liked Now You See Me you should like this movie. However, this isn't quite as awesome as the first film although they still got in a good twist at the end. That being said, the twist didn't catch me off guard nearly as much as the first movie. This movie also explores some backstories which was cool. I almost always dig those. All in all, this is definitely worth a watch. I would comment about how good of a 4K transfer it is but I don't have 4K Blu-Ray player yet. The regular Blu-Ray looks and sounds excellent, though.

I really enjoyed the Now You See Me movies. They never really explain how the tricks are done (if they could even be done in real life without post processing), but the effects are great. And I think that having even a little belief that these tricks could be done in real life shows that the movie isn't totally fantastical. While the plot may not be extremely original or twisty, I was left surprised at certain plot points. Definitely an entertaining movie, and I'm glad they are going to make a third.

I was hesitant about picking up this after seeing all the negative reviews this summer. I enjoyed the first one a lot so I should have ignored the negativity and watched it anyway. Well I am glad that I bit the bullet and bought. I definitely enjoyed it. Granted the magic was a little more far fetched this time around but if you don't think about the plausibility, much like with the first, it is a well executed movie. So, if you enjoyed the first one, you will more than likely enjoy this one as well.

This film has its ups and downs, and if it weren't for the strong acting performances by Lizzy Kaplin, Jesse Eisenberg, and Woody Harrelson I don't think this movie would be as well received as it was for me. I really enjoyed the conjoining of American and Chinese culture. That aspect of diversity and seeing the Chinese equivalent to Las Vegas in Macao was a nice touch. This movie should be a 3 and a half out of 5, but it is still a entertaining and pleasing film all around.

This movie is inferior as compared to the first movie - now you see me. It is not a bad movie by itself but so many things goes wrong that it is not worth watching after one has seen the first movie. The storyline is terrible, and no beautiful female character like the first one. The script tried to twist at the end so Morgan Freeman becomes a good guy but the good guy/bad guy distinction is so obvious through the entire movie so that move is in fact useless - sad.
