It's a great streamer. Love the ethernet and USB option. I think this is a better buy than the Pro version. (I have both). These are pricey compared to other Android boxes but they don't compromise on quantity. I'd rather buy it once then upgrade every year. It direct plays Plex just fine! I have not done any 4k playback but 1080p is amazing and smooth. Use ethernet with it. I used to be a roku guy (10+ years) but I like Android TV more.

Got the shield pro a few weeks before the regular shield tv and I never believed that it could be that much smoother and faster than my firestick but I am now I'm a believer. The hype is real! Only con I have is with the cylinder design for the regular shield tv but I guess the performance outweighs it.

This is the perfect device if you're a PC gamer that doesn't want to also invest another $400-500 in a video game console just to relax on the couch while you play. The game streaming quality is far better than expected with the AI upscaling. This also offers a really good alternative media streaming device if you don't like your TV's user interface as this is snappy and fluid.

The Shield TV is a great streamer

This streaming device has the horsepower to stream 4k smoothly as well as multiple streams with the right player. It can play 4 1080 streams at the same time then switch to a 4k. It has plenty of memory for applications, or you can add a memory card to it for expansion. The higher priced Shield will take a USB drive, where this one will not. If you are thinking of streaming and getting a stick device, this one is a much better performer than the Firestick 4k.

The 4k upscaling makes this streaming device the king. I really don't care about the price versus some of the dongles you can get for 50 bucks or less. Those dongles do not offer the type of experience this guy does. This is my main device for a $4,000 dollar home theater that I have built over the past couple of years. Dolby Atmos/Vision, 4k upscaling, no missing app support (like you get with Roku), and Shield's dedication to updating the software regularly make this the ideal choice for a major home theater. If you no longer pay for TV the traditional way, this is what you should invest in. I use YouTube TV and the upscaling is amazing on it. I am basically watching 4k TV all the time.

If you are lookign for a streaming device that can handle 4K HDR and True HD 7.1 Channel Dolby Atmos sound - this is the device you need. I use this to stream from Plex, Sling and a few other of the usual sites and this handles them all with ease. The only minor annoyance is the netflix button on the remote - which if you accidently push when looking for the volume button will dump you out of your current app to load netflix.

Many friends asked me how I want to spent so much money on a player when I can get a cheap Android player for 1/3 of the price. I was paying for peace of mind! This player plays everything that I threw at it and I don't need to worry about codec. It's fast and smooth seems to be more stable that my other players. It had never crashed once since my during my 6 months of ownership! I would buy it again if I have to.

This is a nice device for sure, but I am frustrated that I can't get the Dishanywhere app for it. For the price of this thing, I would have thought everyday apps would be more readily available. That is very frustrating, especially considering I can get the app on the much cheaper Firestick 4K. Now the pic and controls etc are absolutely 1st rate. I kept it hoping they get more apps available.

This was a great purchase, it is fast & actually now getting more of my benefits I have with my vudu account, that I wasnt getting with my tv or dvd player. Easy to setup & use, it updated itself, & has been a fairly flawless experience. I have the error 39 from Disney+, however I resolved this with a Monster HDMI cable, and hasnt come back since.

Decent streaming device, although highly priced. If you plan on streaming games it is excellent. My biggest complaint is it would freeze entirely in certain apps, requiring me to unplug it. I returned it for the Chromecast with Google TV as I found it to be a better value. But if your intent it gaming related, this is far superior.

Wish they support hdr 10+ , then it would support most of all services. Still needs a few updates to clear up a few loose ends in terms of TV compatibility... example you hit power and it turns off but 2 seconds later it turns on by its self. Something to do with the HDMI cec and power settings... The remote is much better than last time around but wish is was just a tad bit wider.
