I’ve was a advent for the Amazon TV Sticks. But I heard about Nvidia and boy am I happy I bought the Pro Shield. I went with the Pro Shield because of the more storage it had over the regular shield. The system is about a little bigger than a deck of cards. The layout is very simple and easy to setup. It’s heavy invested with voice controls on Google. You can add your current subscriptions like Netflix, YouTube, etc It does provide 4K support for those services that provide it. The remote has a touch sensitive light feedback on it so you can use and see it in the dark. It’s a very good feature to have on remotes. Overall, I want to go with Nvidia all throughout the house. The only thing is I wish they weren’t as expensive compared to current Android TV competition.

if you are looking for a streaming device which checks all boxes from Apps to Sound and Video codecs this is box to get. I do not use it for gaming so can't comment much on it.
Setting up is easy, it is fast to setup, it is also easy to setup with harmony remote, PQ settings are excellent, supports all High resolution audio formats. I have connected it to LG CX 77 OLED.
highly recommended, price might push many buyers away. I have Apple TV and Amazon fire stick connected to other TVs, I think Apple TV is the best and Nvidia shield is 2nd. Amazon fire stick is best for price. Roku Ultra is good but does not support DV which is not good for me as my TV supports DV and all ATV+ content support DV also.

This is my 2nd Shield for my house. My other one is about a year or so old. The redesigned remote is awesome compared to the old flat one. As far as capabilities w/ this box go it is the 1 and only needed for your house. With the Android platform Nvidia has created a powerful device that's fast thanks to the Tegra processor! The 4K, Dolby Vision & Dolby Atmos are superior features to have. Dolby Atmos is unreal if you happen to have a Atmos surround sound setup. My media is a 5.2.4 system which is where I use the Shield. Whether you're running a Plex server, streaming off any of the services like Netflix or Amazon this is the device to do it with!
Highly recommend as it won't freeze up and need repeated reboots like you do with the cheap equipment like Firesticks

Extremely glad I bought this. The user experience is exponentially better than using my Samsung Q60’s built in software. Most importantly, NO ADS. Also there’s twitch since it’s android tv and my Samsung doesn’t have it available for some reason. There could be other apps that are available on Android that aren’t on Samsung that I don’t use too.
There is a lot of customization to get the apps you use to where you can easily access them. Very easy to remove apps or recommendations you don’t want to see from the home screen.
CEC lets you control your tv (such as on/off and volume) with the shield remote and the shield with the tv remote. At least with my tv. You can use the tv remote to navigate apps and go back. The only function that I haven’t found is going back to the shield home with a dedicated button on my tv remote. But pressing the back button repeatedly gets you there with just a little more effort.
The shield remote is good but I wish the volume button was as easily found as on my Samsung remote. It is backlit but I like using my remote without looking at it. This is also why I find myself switching between the tv and shield remote sometimes.
AI enhancing is definitely cool if you stream 1080p on your 4K tv. You definitely notice when you enhance it. Although, I believe the video must be the same aspect ratio as the tv for AI enhancing to work. I believe 16:9. Otherwise, it says “unsupported resolution.” Like for Avatar the last air bender :(

I've had this for 8 months now. Great streaming for non-apple users, but if you are buying this for the purpose of playing games, I'd say look towards the Steam Deck and the impending SteamOS 3 release instead.
First: Streaming. The streaming tools on this are awesome. The support for Dolby Vision is rare to find on many other devices if you're running through plex, and it is for all intents and purposes an android device with all the joys and pains that brings. I've enjoyed the experience overall. This is perhaps the best device you can buy for Plex streaming. If all you want is simple access to your Netflix/Hulu/Disney+, I'd go for something cheaper though. The remote is pretty comfortable despite it's weird shape, and although it definitely stops it from rolling, I don't think it truly helps with any real couch cushion wedging, in fact I think it might give it an easier time. The backlight on the remote is a really nice touch though, and something that I think a lot of other devices could learn from.
For Gaming: This thing presented the potential silver bullet to my home gaming setup. I have a PS4 and a Switch, but it feels like a waste to buy a game on either for double or sometimes triple the cost to get that same game on steam. I would love to say that this did it, but it unfortunately did not. Firstly: Graphics cards. The hardware acceleration relies on NVENC on your graphics card, which means immediately AMD is out of the picture -- obvious enough, this is an NVidia product. However, the added caveat is that this feature is not turned on unless you use NVidia's official game streaming app, and that is limited to a number of games that are 'Nvidia approved'. Thankfully, there is a community-made tool called Moonlight that lets you stream your games straight from Steam -- boom, problem solved. Right?
Not exactly. The problems that the Nvidia Shield has for game streaming are the same problems that PC gaming has struggled with for a long time -- a lot of troubleshooting between devices. I can even deal with that, it's not their fault, but what I can't put up with is the total pitfalls they make in user experience. The technical points are perfect -- the technology is quite frankly shockingly good. However, the most basic UX experiences have been shirked, here's a few highlights:
Controllers won't auto-shutoff when you connect them. You can leave a PS4 controller on all night and run down it's battery completely.
Steam is smart enough now to have controller mappings for all of the many brands of controllers, but using Moonlight or Nvidia Games streaming wraps it with an XInput wrapper, so all devices appear to be an Xbox controller. This used to be crucial to compatibility, but these days it just makes it kind of a headache sometimes when stuff doesn't get mapped right.
The Steam Link app CAN map the controllers correctly (and work with a Steam Controller if you happen to have one of those), but it doesn't get access to the "secret sauce". Therefore, the quality is lower, and it caps at 1080p.
If you have a multi-monitor setup, sometimes it can pick the wrong one. No problem, go shut it off, it works.
If you just close the application and get up and walk away, it won't shut down the streaming. When streaming, NVidia hijacks your sound, and won't let you change it until you close.
All-in-all, it is close. Annoyingly close. I can see the ideal of PC game streaming in my house so near, but they fumble it on some total basics so badly it makes it kind of an awful experience. For my part, I'm waiting for my Steam Deck to arrive. I think that with it's improved controller support, and it's ability to run some games locally, it will be the 'bridge' between the living room and my office I've been looking for.

Have been using this for a few months and this has essentially replaced the 4K Fire TV stick that we still have connected to our main TV.
Setup is very easy if you have an android device. It copies your existing user information.
The device is perfect for those who want more advanced features (like connecting hard drives/Kodi) and don’t mind tweaking settings. Streaming services work great (4K/Atmos). The remote control works great with my TV/Reciever.
It’s pricey, but worth it. A great option instead of using a pc/laptop as part of your home theater. The subreddit SheildAndroidTV is a great resource too.

This box is fast, has a clean and simple interface, and has all the channels you’d expect. On the technical side it works completely seamlessly with my Denon receiver and Samsung TV, the remote controls the power and volume perfectly. Im used to digging in settings to get thins to work, but the Shield Pro just worked so easily, with only basic settings adjustments. I paired a DualShock 4 and have been loving the game streaming capabilities, and I can link up to my PC in the other room.
I’ve had several Apple TV’s, Roku ultra, chromecast - the Shield TV is by far the best I’ve used. I’ll be sticking with Nvidia as long as they make these.

I have owned at least a dozen different devices for playing back my digital media since around 2008. I started by ripping my DVDs so my kids couldn't damage the originals. Also playing back home videos from devices back to my early cell phone (shutters). But every device I ran it against there were always compatibility issues. Having to recompress, reconvert videos became a chore until I discovered KODI. The original Nvidia Shield came preinstalled with KODI and it is wonderful if you have your own digital movie collection. There is really no format or compression that I have come across this will not play.
In addition to this you can also use this device as a PLEX server, which basically does about the same but transcodes these video files for playback remotely, something the average streaming box cannot do. I do have issues with PLEX in it's overall compatibility but natively streaming files, combined with the Nvidia Shield it does the job.
On top of that the Nvidia Shield is THE most powerful set top streaming device meaning it will be quick and responsive now, but not be outdated any time soon. In fact, the original Nvidia Shield is still updated and works very well still today. It also works great as a Steam box for streaming content from a local gaming PC. And the Tegra X1+ chip inside means that it will handle any compatible game you throw at it (so long as you have a wired or wireless game controller). It also supports the Nvidia game streaming service where you can stream PC quality games remotely from Nvidia's servers should you have the bandwidth available.
So the question becomes why buy this, over say on older Nvidia Shield? The answer, this box has a little more processing power and can upconvert 720p, and 1080p content to look more like 4K content on the fly, and it actually works well. On top of that this new model supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos which were not supported before as they are a hardware upgrade vs software alone. And this Pro model basically also has extra USB over the cylinder model which are helpful if you need it for a USB hard drive or other device. So if 1080p is good enough for you and or you don't care about Dolby Atmos or Vision then look into the old player, but not too much as this model is priced really well.
I have been using this box since it's release daily and love it. The new remote is also a cool feature, that with the accompanying app, you can make the remote sound if lost in the couch (something that happened frequently with the older remote's very thin design).
All around I can't say enough good things about this device in a single online review. If you are wanting to stream content to a TV, no television purchase is complete without an Nvidia Shield to go alongside it, period.

"Ferrari of streaming".. thats what best buy associate reffered to it. My roku couldn't handle 4k ultra hd movies most of which are bd remux. I'm talking files 50gb-90gb with bitrate ranging from 70mbps-90mbps. Buffering was a big issue. This thing streams so smooth. It supports dolby vision and dolby atmos so you'll really appreciate the 4k picture and sound quality as long as you have proper media and hardware. And make sure to turn on the 'HDR+ Mode' on your tv. When 'HDR+ Mode' was off I was getting dark or washed out video. I'm glad I bought this.

The nvidia shield is a great streaming device capable of being a good gaming machine as well. The shield comes stock with Android tv and geforce now. You can also download emulators and various cloud gaming platforms (geforce now, stadia (side load), gamepass (side load), shadow, etc). You can also stream gaming from your pc if you have a nvidia graphics card. Beware if you are looking to use this as a gaming machine, multi-player is dependent on in-game settings. The shield does not recognize 2 separate controllers automatically like what any other $50 dongle can. You also can use the $200 version of the shield as a media server via plex. The nvidia shield does support AI upscale to 4k. It looks great and can save data by only streaming 1080p and upscale to 4k.
So stands the question, is it worth the extra money?
Cheaper dongles such as the chromecast with google tv have the ability to do majority of what the nvidia shield does. Although, you will not: be able to stream your pc games to the TV, use plex as a media server, have 4k upscale and lack of storage on a cheaper device. It really depends on what you want most out of your streaming box. Do you care about the added additions compared to other devices?
I give this device a rating of 3.5 out of 5. Although this device has a lot of up sides to it; the average consumer may not care about the additional features compared to dongles and may want to save that extra $100-$150. This is where you decide what is best for your wants and needs.

Great product for streaming apps. I love how its the same android interface as Sony TVs so its ease of use is exceptional.. especially with its remote not being a joke like the remotes with Apple TV devices. I'm knocking it 1 star only due to it not including the vertical stand that's advertised on the box.. looked it up and its sold separately for $30 on nvidias website (ripoff!). Regardless, if you want a device great for streaming that supports Dolby Vision and Atmos, this is the one. If you care for quality, you won't be disappointed.

I own two of these units (older model and the current). These are as close to perfect that you can get when it comes to performance vs power usage. They provide a very strong ability to stream high bitrate streams off of such platforms like plex. I love that the remote not only controls my TV but my denon receiver as well. This is a must buy in my opinion, easy to use, powerful, compatible and versatile.

This is a very good streaming device, Apple 4K is better for streaming only because it has more channels/apps. Dolby fission and Dolby Atmos was a bit easier with the Nvidia, But maybe that was because I had figured it out earlier with Apple 4K and the correct cables. Also Nvidia gives you more tweaks to adjust your home theater just right and I do like it’s enhance picture AI for content less than 4K.
But nothing beats this if you want to game on your big screen tv. I am an old pc gamer that played games like half life2. With Nvidia shield I was able to connect to my old steam account and have be enjoying those games all over again but now on my 75” tv with a great sound system. I am glad I bought the shield.

I have always loved the shield, ever since I bought the very first one. I bought this one because it’s newer than the first edition which gives it a little better processor and supports Dolby Vision. I have bought all the top streaming players and this is my go to for my home theater. I use Plex for my library of Blu-ray’s and I wanted to have Dolby Vision support. Doubly Vision is not a big deal and one can argue can you see the difference. Can I? Probably not but I’m one of those people that if one of my components support it I want to be able to do it. If you want a streamer that supports the most video container types and lossless audio allowing direct play (no encoding) this is the player for you. Keep in mind to get lossless audio decoding from your media, it needs to be connected to a receiver or soundbar(maybe?) that can decode the audio. I also use it for gaming when I don’t feel like using my computer or game consoles. GeForce now is great but I only use it because I was grandfathered in from early adoption. I do use moonlight to stream from my PC when I want to play on the big screen in surround sound. You can also take it with you on a trip, hook it up, and enjoy media from your house or remote play games even. Can’t say enough about this. I still have an AppleTV for other parts of the house but for home theater this is the clear winner.

The NVIDIA SHIELD Pro has completely blown me away. It’s everything I wanted in a streaming box and more. I mainly bought it for Plex, but it quickly became the centerpiece of my entire home media setup.
Plex playback is flawless. I have a large personal library, including high-bitrate 4K HDR remuxes, and the SHIELD handles them like a champ. It never buffers or chokes, even over Wi-Fi, and everything just plays smoothly. The image quality is stunning, and audio passthrough (including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X) works perfectly with my sound system.
Aside from Plex, I use it regularly for Netflix, Disney+, and ESPN — and performance is consistently excellent. Load times are fast, the apps run smooth, and HDR content looks amazing. I also switched the default launcher to Projectivity, which gives me a clean and customizable grid-style interface that feels way better than the stock UI. The flexibility of Android TV is a big reason I went with the SHIELD over more locked-down devices.
Now let’s talk about game streaming: I don’t use GeForce NOW, but I set up Sunshine on my PC and stream games to the SHIELD with Moonlight — and it’s phenomenal. The connection is incredibly low latency, the video quality is high, and controller input feels near-instant. It honestly feels like I’m playing the game natively on the TV, and the SHIELD’s hardware makes that possible.
The remote is one of those things that looks weird at first (triangle-shaped?), but once you hold it, it just makes sense. It's comfortable, intuitive, and I love that it lights up automatically in the dark. Plus, it can control my TV and soundbar without needing extra remotes — super convenient.
More things I love:
AI upscaling for 1080p content looks surprisingly good on my 4K TV.
Built-in Google Assistant works reliably.
Two rear USB ports — I use one for an external SSD and the other for a keyboard dongle.
It’s completely silent and stays cool.
Built-in Ethernet for rock-solid streaming.
Honestly, if you're into Plex, streaming services, game streaming from your PC, or just want a premium Android TV experience, this is the device to get. It's not cheap, but you absolutely get what you pay for. I can’t see myself using anything else now.
Highly recommended. 5/5.

I had avoided this purchase for 3 years and was happy with my chromecast and smart TV features. Later I realized that the smart TV OS gets disgustingly slow with time as they have very low processors and memory to handle today's high-end media. Chromecast is good if you are comfortable with it. But, Shield is for those who love speed and uninterrupted media with a high-end gaming console embedded in it.
So, I bought the 2019 model and hands down, this is just amazing, feels like a blaze... gaming, TV, Netflix, prime, sling, hotstar, PLEX, you name it and it has it all. I was so happy that I really promoted it among friends and encouraged them to get one as well who now just love their experience! NOt to forget, it also comes with Dolby surround sound and many other features, go check it out!
Thanks a lot, NVIDIA!

I was looking to replace my firestick and started looking at different options. After reading reviews Nvidia Shield kept coming up as everyone's top choice and after a month of using it I concur
Its faster than a firestick while on the home screen and displays a sharper picture, Which I didn't think possible. ( I have it hooked up to an LG 4k 70in)
Like the firestick it uses Android however unlike the firestick it is pure Android and thus doesn't come with the bloat ware that Amazon puts on. What this also means is that you can log into your Google account and download your apps to use on the Shield. Sadly not everything is compatible but it does have Chromecast built in so you can always do it. Other great perks is GeForce now which allows you to play pc games (steam supported ones of course) directly on your tv or by connecting it to your pc and stream from your pc to tv. The remote is great and if you download their app you'll always be able to find when...it grows feet and walks away from where it last was lol. Overall I'm very pleased and as mentioned earlier it is priced higher than other Android tv setups but worth the investment.
