I bought the NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV Pro on June 27, 2025, and I can confidently say it’s one of the smartest tech decisions I’ve made all year. Whether you’re a hardcore streamer, gamer, or just someone who wants blazing-fast performance in a sleek, compact device — this little box delivers big. From the moment I plugged it in, the difference was night and day. Apps launch instantly, 4K content looks stunning with the AI-enhanced upscaling, and Dolby Vision and Atmos make every movie feel like a theater experience. It also supports Google Assistant, so controlling my smart home and finding shows is seamless and hands-free. But what really blew me away? GeForce NOW. Was looking into a new TV because of how slow the UI was. I stumbled onto this and it completely changed everything.

This review is mostly about cost of item. The shield is a very good streaming box. I liked it very much. However at the price of $200 it is astronomical. It's a standard price no matter where it's purchased. Drop the price Shield. Went with the fire cube. Found it to be comparable to shield unless your a gamer. Long story short shield is a great product and would have kept it if price was affordable. I purchased the pro edition. If price is lowered I will most likely buy it again. Plus. Lots of memory. As a Nvidia Shield TV Pro (2015) I was wondering how much better the new version (2019) is. The hard drive is gone and replaced with a 16GB ssd. If you need more space you can connect external drives via the USB connection. Remote: The new remote is SO MUCH better than the old one. It uses AAA batteries instead of the tiny rechargeable battery in the old one. It also adds a microphone button to use with the built-in Google Assistant. Also added is a dedicated Netflix button (a Netflix contractual requirement). The pro adds Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support which was very important for me. One thing I don't like is that my existing (2015) game controllers are not compatible with the 2109 version. Also, if you have an issue, be prepared for many back and forth communications with Nvidia support.

Nice. Was already streaming using a small Insignia Amazon Fire TV, a Fire TV stick on a "dumb" Pioneer Plasma TV, Tizen OS on a Samsung Smart TV, and WebOS on a new LG Smart TV. Bought the Shield Pro to compare and contrast those other devices to streaming options on Android TV. Nvidia Shield appears easier to use (search, download, etc.) and less "clunky" than my other devices.

Overall, I'm happy with the Shield Pro. It outputs 4k, HDR, and the lossless DTS-MA and TrueHD audio streams, which were my main criteria. I will say, though, the UI is a bit clunky. The menus are redundant & confusing. Even after more than a year of using it quite frequently, I still have to test different menu options to find what I want. And when I select the option to permanently delete a file from the attached hard drive where I keep my movies, it doesn't work. Ever.

I have 2 of the last model of Nvidia Shield Pro, but I wanted to test the Ai processing of the newer model so I bought this version. well, I was surprised that the Ai enhancement really work, especially watching movies via NetFlix and Amazon. The only problem I had was the Plex server, it did not recognized the external drive that was setup by the older version which is now connected to new one, I eventually solved the problem, so now I am really enjoying it, thinking of getting another one to replace the other one in my bedroom. I really like the new remote control, it is a lot easier to use than the last one and it use 2 3a batteries, the processor speed is a tad upgrade from the 2017 model, but it did make me notice the difference in speed, I haven't experience the buffering I was getting with the older model so far.

The Nvidia Shield Pro is a serious problem-solver for continuing to make use of aging "smart TVs" that aren't working well anymore. In my case, I bought this for a five year old smart TV that got buggier and slower to the point of almost being unusable. Luckily, the TV allows for abandoning the smart features and booting off HDMI, which allows the Shield Pro to seamlessly integrate as the 'smart' system for the TV. So, it's helping to prevent waste, which is great. The Shield Pro is nice and snappy. It's fast, it loads fast, it has solid settings. The remote is super easy to use. It's a game-changer. But it has some issues ... The NetFlix button is constantly being accidentally tapped, even though I'm not a subscriber. Worse, the Netflix button isn't customizable via the settings -- you can't disable it. Honestly, I want to be able to disable it without having to take in a third party app. Yep, there is a third party app you can download to do it, but it apparently now costs money. No thanks. Second big note is that Disney+ is buggy as can be on the Shield Pro. Okay, Disney+ is buggy on all platforms, but it keeps slipping into fast forwarding at random, the audio is super glitchy, and it's because the Shield isn't handling Disney's inability to provide data fast enough. The Shield doesn't allow you to increase the buffer duration/size for streaming. I'm on a gig connection (up/down), and it's definitely not our connection. So, it's odd that Nvidia doesn't do better error correction, and doesn't allow for more buffering is a little odd. Overall, I'm thrilled with the Shield Pro -- it's solved so many problems. But the Netflix button not being programmable in the settings, the lack of a buffer expansion, and the fact that Disney+ is allowed to be buggy as can be without any checking or feedback are flaws I can't overlook. I would buy this device again, I would recommend it to friends and family, and I would -especially- recommend it to anyone with an aging SmartTV they want to get more mileage out of before tossing it. It works seamlessly with our Samsung 58" 4K smart TV that's now ~5 years old. It's like having an all new TV thanks to the Shield.

Excellent streaming device that has an easy to use menu for streaming app management. Also does 1080p to 4K AI upscaling incredibly well. Having used Amazon and Roku devices for years, this product was an awesome upgrade in my streaming capability and video/audio experience (Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos are key technical capabilities of the device). Although one might get sticker shock as compared to lesser capable devices, the NVidia Shield Pro is worth the price given its proven technical capabilities that are not available in other streaming devices commonly used by cord cutters.

Still a great streamer plus. It will do about anything you want in a steamer. The AI feature is fabulous for low resolution content. Still a "fair" buy in 2025.

Probably one of the beat purchases i made, since i have a samesung tv, i cant use kodi or anything like that, and before this i had just a baby little google chromecast and everything would always crash. But this thing , has been a dream. Recommend for sure. On a scale of 1-10? 1,000,000

Wow. This device does an amazing job upscaling sports on my streaming service. Not a fan of all the crap they put in the home screen that you can't disable, but for watchin 1080p and 720p content, this things is amazing. It also does much better than any of the other streaming devices keeping audio synced with the video.

I got this to run Plex to access my locally stored TV recordings on various PCs. The Shield is very easy to set up. Plex is more complicated but after you've jumped all the hoops it is a joy to use.

This is my 4th nvidia shield and they just keep getting better! The remote is an upgrade from 2017 shield, and the added 4k AI upscaling is awesome! Whether you want a box for Netflix, kodi, iptv or to use as an in home media server player, it does it all! And updated often by nvidia so it keeps up with all the new technologies. No lag whatsoever between menus like some other media boxes. It does everything it says it will do and more!

Perfect Streaming device if you have 4k tv. Supports every video format under the sun and has all the apps as well. But the real kicker is the ai upscaling that can make all 1080 content and lower look way better than you thought possible. If on larger tv ie 65 or larger don't look at anything else since sharpens up picture without and motion blurring and screen jitters. All Gaming and extra imputs are a bonus.
