Octapath travelers has to be one of the most satisfying strategic and fascinating game I've played in a while. It is amazing. The storyline is addictive. Each character you play is just as magical as the first and you get so attached to your characters it's brilliant

The SNES era was a golden age for jrpgs, moving us from the 8-bit grind fests of the NES to the basic tenets of gaming that define the genre today. Octopath Traveler faithfully recreates the 16-bit style while seamlessly adding modern touches. The game is beautiful to look at, beautiful to listen to, and it scratches an itch for those old games.

I really enjoyed this game and actually couldn't put it down for the first few hours. The music is absolutely fantastic and is something that I listen to any time I need to write. The gameplay is fun and suitably challenging. The first few characters that you meet are charming. However, as you go further and further into the game and meet all the characters, the story becomes very repetitive. Many of the characters have essentially the same storyline which can cause the game to seem boring at times. I'd still recommend, but it's something you will probably want to play for short bursts at a time.

If you are a fan of RPGs, then you will like this game. It can be slow at time but building your characters and learning their back stories overshadows the slow times in the game. It is also one of those games where you can play for hours or for 10 minutes. Lastly, the music in this game is also a hug plus. I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of RPGs.

Battle mechanics are great. Soundtrack is great. Graphics are great. I tried the demo and knew I had to buy this game. It reminds me of a cross between Chrono Trigger and Golden Sun (both of which I love). The game offers a lot of freedom, also, in terms of the paths you can travel. If you're looking for a new RPG to play, try this one -- you won't regret it.

I bought this game awhile back on sale, but just recently started playing it. It is superb! The game mechanics and the graphics is just right! Most of the storylines are great, but my recommendation is to pick the best character from the start! Do some research before you embark on this wonderful journey.

I been playing RPGs all my life. I remember Final Fantasy 2(5 in Japan) on the SNES, which made me start playing RPGs. Then Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy 3 (6 in Japan), Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 8, and Final Fantasy 9 showed us innovations that made RPG the best genre. Then Comes Final Fantasy 10 to 15 where I felt it was a chore playing. Octopath Traveler reminded me so much of the gloden Snes days where RPG were fun to play. The best thing about Ocotopath is the combat. Turn base, where you have to find the opponents weakness and exploit it so you can stun them for a turn. Job systems, help give each character different skills to exploit enemy's weaknesses. However, the game lack story where the characters interactions. The story show individual plots but the characters barely interact with one another. They might interact once per town by pressing +.
If you love old school japanese turn base rpg, this game is the perfect game for you.

Old school look new school play. I was skeptical when this game was coming out but once the demo dropped and I got to try it all my doubts were lifted. This game is beautiful and it's square Enid at it's finest. The nostalgia easily take you over and the gameplay is a blast. 8 distinct stories to play and mix and match abilities is great. Totally worth it.

This is classic JRPG. When the first demo launched, I was immediately taken in by the classic looks and sound. I enjoyed it, but with only a tease, I was unsure.
However, when the second demo rolled out, I was instantly hooked by the battle system and some of the story lines really shined. As much as I was enjoying myself, I was really looking forward to a major convergence of storylines. When it never came around, I thought, okay, it's just a demo, surely, once I get into the actual game, it will all come together.
Now that I've been playing the actual complete game, I will first start off by stating that I'm having an absolute blast. Because the battle system is so good, I don't mind the random battles. And there's a way to reduce the frequency (which should be a feature in any JRPG).
This isn't so much a spoiler as it is a caution. Although the eight characters can be joined in any variety to create a party, their stories never converge. 8 character. 8 separate stories. While it would be more satisfying for some story event to tie everyone together, I am truly interested to seeing each characters' story concludes.
The only thing that I can get nitpicky over is the size of the character sprites. I think they could have been a little bit larger, especially during battles. Also, in terms of visuals, the game looks much better in hand held mode than on a TV display. On the contact screen, the imagery is sharp, but things can appear washed out on a big screen. That being said, it's equally fun playing in either mode.
If you're a fan of classic JRPGs, especially Square's earlier work, then you've either already got a copy, or it's on your wish list. If you're a casual classic rpg fan, then go back and replay the demo. If you're enjoying it, those feeling will carry over into the actual game. If the demo doesn't hold your interest, well...

My wife LOVES this game, and I HATE it. Why does she love it? Great story, very interesting graphic style, awesome combat, etc. Why do I hate it? I haven't played Mario Kart 8 in a week because the Switch is ALWAYS in her hands, playing it. :) Point is, if old school RPG's with grown up sensibilities flip your switch, then you will really dig this game.

I've had much fun playing this game. The art style alone is so nice and unique. The battle system is pretty similar to Bravely Default on the 3DS. Each turn you are able to further power up your attacks, etc. Some of the character's stories are fairly interesting from what I've played thus far. Would definitely recommend this game.

Octopath Traveler as you could probably tell from the title tells the story of 8 characters. Each character has a nice story, sadly with not much interaction between them till the end. The gameplay feels very similar to Bravely Default if you've ever played that. Overall if you're a fan of the SNES era of JRPGs I would highly recommend it.

A good throwback to old school Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest style RPGs, with a great soundtrack and gorgeous sprite work and visuals. The plot is lacking due to the scattered nature of the narrative, as it is divided among 8 largely unconnected stories, and much of it is fairly standard RPG fare, but it has some good moments.

Suprisingly, this game came out of nowhere for me and was amazing! One of my co-workers really pushed for me to get it and I'm glad he did! If you're looking for a very story-driven RPG that's very addicting, then this is it! I guarantee, if you buy it and like RPGs, you will get sucked in. One of the best games for the switch!

Octopath Traveler is a great overall experience, that is at once a throwback to the classic RPG’s of old, mixed with a myriad of new systems. Awesome voice acting, great story and combat that is very addictive round out the game. Highly recommended if you are a fan of older games like Final Fantasy 6/Chrono Trigger!!!

JRPGs are one of my favorite games, so its no surprise that I love Octopath Traveler. It berings back the good things about the earlier SaGa games, but leaves out a lot of the bad. The difficulty scales with you nicely, and the battle system is a lot of fun. If I had one complaint to give about that, it would be that I actually enjoyed the battle system better in the early demo version before they overhauled it based on feedback. I admit though, that this version of the system is likely more playable as a full game, the length of battles in the demo would have likely been a turn off in the final version. What they gave up in tactical aspects they gained in speed.
It does get a bit "samey" as you start each characters story: there's a town, there's a dungeon and characters have a rehash of similar special skills. However, there is so much in world design, and ambiance that it doesn't bother me. Its a fully realized world, and doesn't feel bolted together.
If you are a fan of SNES era JRPGs this game is a must.
