This game hits all the right spots when it comes to being an rpg. not a perfect game, but the gameplay is fun and it has an amazing art style. A throw back to final fantasy games as well, while the backgrounds and colors really do stand out since they are so detailed and nice to look at.

I played the demo and must say I am addicted. I love the RPG element to the battle system. Everything from the beautiful graphics to mesmerizing music. I love it all. I can spend all day exploring and wandering in this new world. Highly recommend this game to anyone who loves RPG and exploration.

Exactly the kind of game I was hoping for when I got a switch, an old school retro looking RPG that plays well both on the couch in front of the TV and on the go. Stories are fun and a bit more mature than a lot of offerings on the switch. Can get a little grindy but that's what I was looking for.

If you enjoyed the classic NES and SNES era Final Fantasy games (FF 1 through 6) and the Bravery Default series on the 3ds, I cannot recommend this game enough. This game is gorgeous with an interesting combat system and character specific mechanics that change as your party expands.

This game hands down is one of the best games on the Nintendo switch to date. It will easily be a strong contender for game of the year. If you like the classic RPG feel with turn based strategy style combat and an immersive deep story line for each individual character, then this is the game for you.

I wasn't sold on the game at first but after trying the demo I found it to be a lot like the classic games I used to play. A few odd ui exclusions aside, the gameplay is solid and the story, while not what I would call cohesive, is captivating nonetheless. This has been eating up my afternoons lately.

This game is an amazing turn based RPG with a cross-class system. 8 characters, 8 classes, and 8 paths with an interesting overarching story and overall, quite enjoyable. I do wish there was more to do after the game’s story or more classes but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

If you liked old school 2D turn based rpgs, this game is GREAT. So many hrs of gameplay and so my things to do. The story is a little generic but entertaining enough and the visuals, for being a mix of 2D and 3D graphics are very pleasing to look at. I love this game, highly recommend.

I really like some of the character stories. The first character you select is important, because some characters are slower than others and some stories seem better than others. You are also stuck with the first character chosen. I really do like the game and the art style. I would recommend.

I grew up on Final Fantasy. I spent an entire summer with my NES and my special edition Nintendo Power with the full walkthrough. The move to SNES was amazing, and I was hooked on the twisting storylines that would be the basis for so many modern day cliche's. I wasn't so keen when it moved to 3D for the PSX and they strayed from the path (with the exception of the tactics games, Legends of Dragoon and Grandia were better than everything from FF8 up, fight me). Octopath Traveller brings me back to the glory days of sprite graphics and turned based battles, while updating enough to keep things fresh and new. The characters and classes are a nice departure from the tired old knight/mage/priest/summoner, though they all share characteristics while introducing new play styles (the apothecary has been my favorite so far, with the ability to mix items to create powerful attacks or heal the party). I've got a while to go before I finish, but this will definitely bring plenty of hours of entertainment.

When I found out Square-Enix was making a classic JRPG using Unreal I was curious. Since I've purchased and played it, I've been enthralled. The visuals are gorgeous and the battle system is very cool. If you like the original Final Fantasy games 1-9, you'll enjoy Octopath Traveler.

A 50-60 hour game that's loaded with content. Some of the best music I've ever heard in a game. Simple yet extremely addicting combat, you end up not minding the random encounters. I wish the characters' stories connected more (or, honestly, at all) but this is definitely a must have.

I've been craving a classic RPG like this for a long time. It pretty much takes everything that makes a game of this genre and does it really well. I wasn't too keen on the HD 2D graphics style at first, but it really grew on me. Fantastic gameplay and music, all around good time.

I was skeptical on Octopath Traveler given that the graphics were not cutting edge, however I must say that I'm greatly impressed with the game play, mechanics, and story. Overall this is fantastic game and I'm very glad to see some quality exclusive games coming to the Switch.

I haven't enjoyed a JRPG in a while beside FFXV. Old school sprites and beautiful environments. Easy battle system and fairly low grinding. I actually liked the game more than I thought I would. Brings back SNES days. Must play! Not perfect by any means but I do recommend it.

The game is a throwback to SNES RPGs, but has a more modern feel to it. The game has a beautiful art style which is striking and is only matched by the wonderful sound track. The game has a great combat system and a ton of content. Any rpg fan should definitely buy this game!

I can’t believe how great this game is. The story is just incredible and that feeling of excitement of my first RPG’s that I got when playing on the Super Nintendo suddenly came rushing back on the switch. Still in the early stages of the game but am in love with it already.

This hangame is a love letter to old school super Nintendo and ps1 jrpgs. That being said, it has an identity all its own. The visuals are top notch and the music is incredible. The gameplay is fast and fluid. And the stories will keep you engaged. You need to buy this game

I bought the Switch specifically because I wanted to play this game. I expected something alone the lines of Final Fantasy 5/6 or even Bravely Default, but what I got was rather tired. The story, excuse me, stories aren't anything new or interesting. They're all so cliche and outdated that I wasn't really interested in them much and spent most of the time skipping through them. The combat is where the game shines, but when you're required to take certain characters for certain quests, it gets rather tedious. What if I don't like that character's abilities? What if I don't want to level and gear eight separate characters! The worst part is that you are stuck with your main character throughout the entire game, so if you choose one that doesn't gel well with the team you're imagining- well, you're stuck. I didn't enjoy the game as much as I wanted to- and I personally find that it pales in comparison to more recent titles like Bravely Default/Second as well as older titles like Final Fantasy 5/6. Square missed the mark on this one for me. I never finished it and have no desire to touch it again. Just a hard pass on this.
