Definitely a game for an older audience. The art style has to be your thing, but the camera angles and little details and touches make this a very enjoyable game, from a visuals standpoint. I haven't gotten far enough to comment on gameplay, but I like it so far!

As many other reviews out there have stated, the visuals and music are a masterstroke of 2D JRPG nostalgia. The script also reflects this - high marks for this genre (a bit cheesy but loaded with personality and wit). The voice acting I'd also similarly impressive for the genre. The battle system will be a mixed bag for folks, but this is always the case for the genre - there are some repetitive elements but it's diverse enough to keep things interesting.

Fun game with 8 possible paths that merge together as you progress. To beat the hidden final boss, you need to pass all 8 routes. Note that there is no set order for the paths - you can start with character A, grab character B and complete all of character B's storyline before even reaching chapter 2 of character A's. Each character has 4 chapters, for a total of 32 chapters. You can also skip cutscenes, so if you die a bunch to the same boss, don't worry about it. The game is open world, allowing you to travel where you please but you always get warning signs before entering an area, saying "DANGER LEVEL: [level]", giving you an idea of what the recommended level should be before going there (going there earlier is fully possible, mind you).

I don’t play these games, I just buy them for my son. I’m his supplier. I’m more a Tetis person myself but he loves this game. When asked he said- Quote: “as usual Square Enix pulls off another amazing RPG with an enriching story and excellent turn based battles.”

This is a gorgeous looking 2D sprite in 3D worlds and is a lovely throwback to yesteryears. You can play through the storyline of 8 different characters and results in loads of hours to be spent learning the battle system. A must own on the Switch for any RPG fan!

I was very skeptical on the price, but to fully complete the game it took me 96 hours; including the secret boss; amazing and touching story lines of all 8 characters; and says allot of how humanity is today. Highly recommend; almost up there with final fantasy 7

If you love classic style JRPGs with a unique 2D/3D design that is definitely inspired from SNES Classic RPGs, then you will love this game. Add in full voiceovers for characters and a very fun battle system, and you’ve got yourself a fun RPG on the go!

Been a fan of RPGs since the Super Nintendo, this feels like a culmination of ideas from them combined with some unique visuals and great music. Individual skills both in and out of battle really give the game a nice DnD feel, loved the game overall.

If we had this kind of technology 20 years ago, this is what JRPG's would have looked like back then. A compelling story, BEAUTIFUL visuals, and a sweeping score to really bring you in, Octopath Traveler is what we remember playing as kids but better.

I am a huge JRPG fan and 30hrs in I can already tell this is a Square love letter to old games like Chrono trigger with art, story and combat variance. I loved the Bravely series on 3DS and this is an awesome continuation.

Excellent game with cool old school graphics redo in a modern, 3D style that is really easy on the eyes. If you enjoy Japanese RPG you will really love playing this. The combat system is very cool.

Octopath Traveler is a must own for any fan of retro RPG’s from the Super Nintendo era. It holds roughly 80 hours of gameplay. Really hope more developers use this art style and gameplay for future titles.

A must have Switch jrpg. The stories of each character are unique with some amazing voice acting. The visuals are amazing to look at with its blend of 3d, pixel and bloom lighting effects. One of the best soundtracks of the year

It seems Square Enix is comfortable experimenting and/or revising JRPG techniques and tropes into a new game. This time "Octopath Traveler" combines Retro with the New. You have to option to play as 1, 2-7, or all 8 protagonists in this game. You make your way through the world leveling up and continuing with the story. However, JRPG fans know the importance of grinding; and, you need to grind A LOT! If you're not prepared to so that, then this game is NOT for you. If you have a Switch and are a fan of Square Enix's games, then don't wait to purchase and to play this amazing game!

This game is addictive. You run into random encounters (think oldschool FF). Characters are very interesting and the story so far seems good, just not seeing a connection between all of the characters yet but maybe I need to play more.

Octopath Traveler gets a lot of things right with its RPG mechanics. The art style is the first thing that I noticed and I love this 2D style look. Its retro but feels modern. The story is great jumping into 8 heroes.
