Office 365 is a huge miss for Microsoft

I've used versions of Microsoft Office since 1990 when the product first debuted. I use it extensively every work day and most weekend days. I have it on my work computer and multiple computers at home. I was going to upgrade to the new version and install it on my computer when I realized that Microsoft is doing everything they can to transition you to their new online version of Office (365). I decided to move ahead and see how 365 can integrate with my PCs and multiple devices as well as a new MacBook Pro. I can't say how disappointed I am with the new online product. It is painfully slow and MS forces you to create a OneDrive account to store all of your files. When you try to open an existing file from your computer, it force-prompts you to open a new blank file, browse templates or open a recent document on OneDrive (see image). It doesn't allow you to open up a file from your computer. You then have to waste time uploading the document from OneDrive and then open it from there. (Hey Microsoft - there are a lot of people out here who don't want their documents to be sitting in your cloud storage solution). After the file is finally open, if you’re using a Chrome, Firefox or Safari browser, you can't cut and paste images or text into the online version of the software! Each of these three browsers had a message that stated that you have to use the keyboard functions to copy and paste. I attempted this with all of them and the keyboard functions don’t work. Isn’t it surprising (not) that the keyboard functions only work with an Internet Explorer browser. In case the product team at Microsoft Office didn’t realize it, 60% of U.S. consumers aren’t using IE any longer. Do you really want to limit your market potential and force people to use the antiquated (and slow) IE browser? I should be able to use my browser of choice (a fast one) if I’m forced to use an online version of Microsoft Office. To add to the list of misery, the online version lacks many of the formatting capabilities of the installed version. In my opinion, Office 365 is an epic failure. Microsoft has a lot to work on to make the online version half as good as the installed version.

I renewed my subscription to Microsoft's Office 365 (Home Subscription version) over the phone with the Geek Squad, the same folks that sold Office to me in the first place. At the time of the renewal purchase he Geek Squad agent on the phone told me that I would have to go into the store and pick up a disc, that she couldn't do it for me over the phone, but she could certainly take my money--which she did. I went and picked up the card with the renewal activation number (as it turned out there is no disc), brought it home and installed it on two machines. Everything ran fine for about a month, although I kept getting the e-mail reminders from the Geek Squad that insisted that I still had to update my subscription, even though I had already done so. Then, after a few weeks, Office itself started giving me pop-up messages stating "Your subscription has expired" and requesting that I renew. So when I had the time I finally called the Geek Squad today to get this straightened out. After hours wasted on the phone with three different rep's I am still no better off than before. The rep's concluded that I had cancelled my Office package (which I never did) and bought a new one that is only good for one machine (which is not what I was told I was buying). They tell me that the renewal card that they gave me was good for only one device, not the 5 that I had paid for. This is clearly a nonsensical run-around by people who were not detail-oriented enough to get a good grasp of the problem from the start. How could the renewed package work fine for a month on two different machines and just suddenly stop if it was only a single machine license from the beginning? Somebody's missing the obvious here. So I requested to speak to a supervisor or manager who might understand something so simple, and I was told that none were on duty at the time (read "dodge" there) but that some one could call me within 24-48 hours. Since this is a Thursday that means that I won't hear from anyone that knows how to fix this for as much as four days' time. I should have just bought the renewal directly from Microsoft, and I most certainly will in the future. I am floored by this since I have always had such good luck with the Geek Squad, but the last couple of times that I have called it has not been that way. Things have gone from great to horrible in just a year's time, and the pattern promises that things will only get worse. The rep's were all still very nice and extremely polite, but relatively useless when it came to fixing the problem. Hopefully, this will turn out better in the long run, but then getting good service for a single issue should never have to become a lengthy event.

I have NOT been able to download using the product key provided. Microsoft is telling me that they are having server issues! I spent the better part of 4 days trying to download per their instructions. They finally did download a temporary version, although it is only for one computer. I paid for 5 computers. This started July 4 and is still not resolved as of July 18. This is totally absurd. They claim I am not the only one with the problem. I am very unhappy. They are impossible to get a hold of on an ongoing basis. I cannot believe that a company of this magnitude would be unable to resolve this issue in a timely manner. This has cost me a tremendous of time and is very disconcerting. I am very unhappy with Microsoft. Help!!!!

I have had Office 365 home addition for one year now. Everything was great till time for renewal. Renewed one week before due date, then a week later I went into my word program and was met with a message saying my subscription has expired. I have spent four hours countless passing around on the phone with Microsoft, two tiers of techs that log into your computer. Long story made short, was told it was a Microsoft server problem and not to worry, I would receive a phone call or email when it got fixed. It's been almost a week later, and still no answer. In the mean time, I cannot open any of my word documents. Plan to get my money back on the 365 subscription, and buy the software with the disk.

If my daughter did not need this I would never buy Microsoft again. I had a subscription and whoops forgot to renew, so one notice a couple weeks before it expired and then poof it is gone. So i renewed and then when I went in to use it, nothing would work. Talking to Microsoft, they said this was an issue and there was nothing they could do about it. As has been my experience, they offer product, we buy it and end up being beta testers as there are problems after problems. Horrible customer service, did not resolve the problem and when I got my refund, did not get all of my money back. Makes my decision easy on whether to buy a Mac now. Will be trying to move away from anything Microsoft.

This was a total nightmare. I order this with two laptops. Upon trying to activate online, the code did not work. Got in touch with MS support and they tried to do it as well. Told me that Best Buy didn't activate the card before they shipped it to me. Called BB. After being hung up on twice while being transferred, they got me to someone who shared that they had been experiencing problems with MS receiving the activation codes from BB. Said to try again in three days. did, still didn't work. Spent the next week trying to call customer support, being sent to someone who would then transfer us to MS for help. They couldn't not help us. The whole reason we got this ONLINE was because it's not easy for us to run to a BB. Ended up having to actually go into the store to have the dang thing activated. So three weeks later, we now can use the software. Horrible. Horrible customer service experience.

I purchased my subscription at xmas time thinking my kids and I would all share Microsoft Office. Turns out they all have access to Office for free through school so nobody wanted it. I did not install it. Best Buy cannot give me a refund because its a subscription. Microsoft will not give me a refund because its a Point of Sale. I spent countless hours on the phone, some people said it could be done but at the end I got nowhere. Everyone is refusing to refund this purchase. I wanted to put the refund toward purchasing it outright. Now I'm stuck with this $100 subscription for 1 year. What a waste of money. I never should have purchased it in the first place. Now I'm kicking myself. I listened to the kid that sold me my computer. Big mistake.

Bought office 365 with my MacBook Pro last year. Had always used it and shied away from Apple Pages and Numbers apps. Got a huge surprise when the year was up and they wanted to charge me another $100 annually to access my own files on my computer (not in the cloud). My files became read only. Some of tHese were files I created ten years ago! I am having to recreate them in Pages as I refuse to have Microsoft control and profit from me. Apple Pages and Numbers are just as good, if not better than Office! What a pleasant surprise! Thank you Microsoft for converting me to being an Apple user.

I just spent two hours with MS Office customer chat and phone support. Chat support told me that maybe a small server is down and that's why my product key is not found in their database. Phone support should have called me after 13 mins of waiting time but they did about an hour after. Anyway, this guys is now telling me that I need to contact Bestbuy to send my information to MS to activate my product. Chat support said that they would give me a few months of subscription on Office 365 Home without solving my initial problem...

I bought this Office 365 expecting to use it on multiple laptops / Computers. I was able to download it on my I Mac but when I tried to load it on another laptop I kept getting an error messages! I called Microsoft and after over 1 1/2 hrs they could not rectify the problem and said that their technical support team was aware of the problem! That was almost 2 months ago and they still have not resolved this problem. It says it does up to 5 PCs / Macs. It's a lie. The new system of scratching the serial number and downloading off the internet stinks!! I don't think I would have this problem if they still had the discs!

We bought this product for my son's new computer and it worked great but when I tried to install it on to our computers and there's where we had the trouble. This package is for 5 computers and it only works on one. We have tried to call geek squad for assistance a couple of times and we mysteriously we were hung up or "disconnented" ? . When we fallow the directions there is no direction for a multi user section. Stuck right now w/ useless program for now. I haven't tried to call Microsoft for help right now because of me being really busy. Wish me luck.

I bought this with my new computer. My computer had a 60 day trial membership so I waited for it to expire. Just tried to load it on my computer and spent 4 hours wasting my time , I chatted with Geek Squad who told me to contact Microsoft who sent me back to Best Buy. Apparently all 5 of my uses have been already used. By who I have no idea! Now I have to take my printed chat with Microsoft into Best Buy, look like an idiot and explain this to them. Unreal. Next time I will order it online.

The biggest Microsoft piece of garbage we've ever purchased. Only able to upload on an iPad which was over two hours and had to have tech support with someone we could not understand. Product states it is compatible with android and PC. NOT true. Purchased NEW HP laptop, wouldn't upload, called tech support (in India) he remotely logged into NEW computer and could not get it to load. I WASTED TWO hours of my day on the phone with him. This product is not compatible with the android tablet either. Same thing, an hour on the phone - tech support could not upload it.

Bought it for the ease of sharing with my other computers thinking it was a god way to share docs. But as I understand it new docs created with this are in the cloud ONLY. You have to buy another updated version of Office to save your docs to your computer or keep subscribing to this"service" to have access to them in the cloud. Otherwise all your docs go away with the subscription.

This product updates itself, unless you turn off auto update for 365. Once you are forced to update to Windows 10.1, you lose the search function in Outlook and Word. Microsoft is aware but does not address the issue with a permanent fix. Instead you are instructed to update to latest version of office or to re-index or rebuild your profile. (temporary fix.) After researching the issue, it may be with Pop3 accounts, so consider using Imap for email. Consider Office 2016 instead of 1 year of headaches with Office 365.

I wish I could review the actual product but I can't because I wasn't provided a key to install it. I messaged the geek squad, the agent asked me 20 million questions, only to tell me that she couldn't give it to me. So I am stuck with a college student who begins tomorrow and no way to activate the office subscription they're going to want to renew in a year. I will have to go BACK to the store AGAIN. I am beyond angry.

The font is difficult for anyone over 65. The software does not have an address /contacts like previous versions of Office. There was no way to import or export data. It is useless. I would be happy to speak with a developer to have them make this software usable for people my age. I had it removed and am back to Office 2010. They will not give me a refund. DO NOT BUY THIS

I have used Microsoft Office for years and always pleased with the program. Bought a MacBook last year and really missed Microsoft Office, so this was recommended to add to my MacBook. Such a disappointment! Thought that the ease of sharing with my other computer was a good way to share docs. But as I understand it new docs created with this are in the cloud. Also, everytime I use this program I have to wait for updates to install. Will NOT purchase this product again.
