Excellent All-In-One Inkjet Printer

I ordered this printer in part because it was rated by Consumer Reports as using very little maintenance ink. CR did a retest of all it's previously recommended printers because so many subscriber's reported excessive ink usage compared to CR results. They discovered that low volume users, something like 20 copies a week, would waste most of their ink supply in "printer head maintenance cycles". This non-adjustable function clears the heads so frequently that more than half the ink was being injected into an internal sump, and never hits paper at all. This design fault varies greatly by manufacturer and model. But this problem disappeared for high volume users.
This is the easiest Printer setup I have ever encountered. Even the Wifi connection worked perfectly. It didn't ask for the router key and apparently didn't need one to complete the setup. I've used the print, copy and scan functions and all worked perfectly. If I ever see a need for a land line I'll test the fax capability. That is never likely to happen.
The Install is easy but don't use the included instructions. THAT RESULTS IN AN INCOMPLETE INSTALL, Instead: Go to HP.COM/ Support/ Download Drivers/ enter Officejet 5740/ select HP Officejet 5260/ select HP Officejet 5260 again/ Option 1: Check for Updates select “Check Now”/ Use option to Download (highlighted in orange)/ Save File, open and install. The directions included with the printer installs an incomplete NOT UPDATED driver that does not fully activate the printer display panel. You can use the display panel, but those commands will not connect with or export to your computer. Once installed check to ensure the Printer will Scan and Copy directly to your computer using the Printer Front Display. The computer needs to be on for this to work properly. All this can also be done remotely from the computer using the HP Dashboard icon on the Computer Desktop too.
I do have two suggestions.
To save ink go to Control Panel/ Devices and Printers/ right click on your printer (which should already have a green check mark as your Default Printer)/ Printing Preferences/ Paper Quality Tab/ And under Quality Settings, select Draft and finally Apply. The Draft setting uses 20% less ink than than the Normal setting (according to HP Tech Support) with almost no degradation of print quality that I can see.
Some have had difficulty with where their Scans are saved. I never had that problem. Here is a very brief tutorial. When finished scanning and after selecting Save, an HP "Save As" dialog box opens, which gives you the option of naming the file (highlighted in blue, call it anything you want). And to the left side, in the margin, is a list of all the available destinations on your computer. You can place your work in any of them by left clicking on that destination. Select Pictures for photos and Documents for documents. If you named it something accurate and descriptive you will have no trouble finding them again.
Another note on Scanning and Copying in the PDF format. If you want to later print from that PDF file, open it, right click on the image and the Printer Icon will appear in the bottom right corner of the screen. Without the Right Click it is a read only view of the file.
The only problem I now have is that the old HP printer, lost to a fire, had an unintended safety feature. I could hear it banging along from two floors away. I relied on that racket to tell me if it had run out of paper or ink. I cannot hear this one working from 10 feet away. It is almost silent.
I hope this helps.

We got rid of our Epson Workforce because Epson doesn't support Linux, and we run that on our personal devices. This HP is a great little printer with Bluetooth, easy to setup and connect to our laptops, phones, and my daughters Mac and Windows systems. It is not made to collate 50 copies like our other printer, but we don't need that kind of capacity anymore. It does photo, letter, legal in B&W and Color. Our doesn't take up much room, and does pretty much what we ask of it: print, scan, copy, e.t.c.
Highly recommend this machine.

Love this! Easy to connect, easy to use. Free printer ink delivered to my door, when I got low! Omg!! Didn’t have to go to the store for ink. Big plus!!! As long as you’re connected to WiFi, the printer knows when it’s low, and new ink will automatically be delivered. Being able to print from my cell phone was the main reason for this purchase. Great buy!!

This is a really good printer. You can never go wrong with HP and HP instant ink service. It was easy to set up the printer and it was easy to set up the ink service. Now I can quickly wirelessly print from any laptop in my home as well as my cell phone. The only downfall is if you own an older computer such as our old Windows Vista 64 bit laptop. HP does not support Vista so you cannot get a downloadable print driver for your computer so our old computer will not print to this new printer as I found out while on support call with HP. I still give EXCELLENT - 5 star rating because it is a great printer, easily connects to print, and prints excellent photos and papers. I like that you only have to deal with 2 ink cartridges...black and tri-color. This printer was a great buy and meets our printing needs. The photos I have printed from it so far have been the best home printed photos that I have ever seen! I do miss a feature of it that was on our older HP printer...the page catcher is manual on this one, our old one was automatic open, so if you do not manually pull it open, then you will find that your printed pages fall out on the floor in a pile so I am not sure why this newer printer did away with that feature. Overall, I would definitely recommend this printer.

We needed a printer/scanner for use at home, but have little space for it. This works really well in a compact way. I like the app that allows you to scan and rearrange pages before saving. The 2 years of ink is a nice feature.
Easy to set up, use and maintain.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the printing and scanning for this relatively compact printer. I have an HP Color Laser Jet Pro printer as well, and the Office Jet 5260 is almost as good as the larger printer. The only issue that I had with the smaller printer was difficulty in printing labels. I print labels for large envelopes and didn't have any problem with the large labels. I did have an issue with the smaller labels for #10 envelopes. I worked around that by just printing the addresses on the envelopes themselves. At this point, that was my only negative issue. Otherwise I am pleased with our purchase.

Bought this to replace my old printer that was no longer printing. Works great, print quickly. Like that I can print double sided. One feature I wasn’t sure I really needed or not when I bought it was the automatic feed for making copies. Having used it, I must say I love that feature and it makes it so much easier to make copies of multiple pages. Plus having the app to be able to print from anywhere and any device is great.

This buy was a no-brainer. It replaced a bulky old OfficeJet 6600 that sucked ink so quickly that I hesitated to use it. This 5260 has a smaller footprint and sleeker profile. It doesn't shake the Ikea Lack side table that it sits on while printing. Then, there's the HP Instant Ink Subscription. Right off the bat, you get a $100 credit to your account to pay for ink refills. I can finally print in color without giving the cost of replacement in cartridges a second thought.

I selected this as a graduation gift for my granddaughter who is going out of state for college. I selected this printer because of the 2 year ink subscription. She is already using it and loves it. It will be very useful as it is an all-in-one. She can scan, copy, print or fax all of her work right from her room.

The written and video set up instructs were easy to follow. The touch screen is really helpful. The HP app. provides a lot of assistance. It's great to have the option to print from your mobile anywhere. Since I've recently purchased this item I'm still trying to figure out how to scan because the 5260 printer has the option on the touchscreen but the the instructions are for a 5200 printer so that is confusing.

This is a great printer, at a great price. With the $120 Instant Ink Credit it actually cost less than 50 bucks. Prints great, was easy to set up, and is the first printer I have actually been able to print remotely from anywhere in the house.

Easy to assemble. Seems quite solid, fit and finish.
Haven't figured out the document feeder yet.
Easy to sign up for the free ink, but they limit you on pages within a time frame and then push you to pay more monthly for additional pages.
Wireless works perfectly!

Whe I got the printer easy to set also got the prom for 2 years of instant ink subscription which was a plus, so the printer it self is easy to use I update it from an envy 120 which last me more than 4 years so is a fair time life for a printer cause I made my research and found out that it was cheaper to buy a new one, so I went for another hp cause this brand has been worked for me perfect.

I bought this printer/Scanner/Fax a few months ago. It was fairly easy to set up but must say that I have had more technical problems with this printer in 2 months that I had with a previous HP printer that I had for 10 yrs. When it works as it should I am happy, but in the last 3 weeks I have had to call for support 3 times. When I scanned it would tell me it was unsuccessful in scanning, but it actually did scan as it should have and put the document in the documents folder. In the last 3 weeks I have had the following problems #1 After printing and scanning for over a month one day it decided that it could not print because it said I was not signed up for the instant ink , which I was and had already received a package of instant Ink from HP. After calling support they confirmed I was signed up for instant ink and the tech went into the computer and made some technical changes and updated a driver. He also made some adjustments to the scanning . #2 last week it wouldn't print a document and I had just printed other documents 5 mins prior. This time Support stated it was a printer driver issue. #3 today I have been scanning and just went to scan another item and it told me the software wasn't there. I turned it off completely and restarted and I was able to scan but the touchscreen on the printer looked different and it didn't have an many options and didn't save it to my documents as it previously did. So about to call and get this problem hopefully resolved. I have always liked HP in the past as I have had good experiences with other products I have bought from them, but this printer is not living up to the expectations I had especially after paying 150.00 more for this one than the one I previously had that had no issues.
