A very loose retelling of Dickens offers a vague premise. Forgettable. I'd had a laser disc version, twenty years ago, and remembered it with fondness, but it was merely some nostalgic pang, because it wasn't at all effective. Bette Midler is supposed to be one of the character voices, but there's no Midler personality audible.
