Dear George, thank you for providing a review of our Apple TV replacement remote control. We are sorry to hear you have had difficulty with the remote; however, it is only capable of controlling simple functions on a TV if you have HDMI-CEC enabled on both the Apple Box and your TV set. Please ensure you have checked this, but be aware that the remote only controls simple functions such as Volume, Mute, Channel Up/Down

I do not know a single individual using an Apple TV that likes the Apple TV remote, except for maybe the Apple product manager that presented it on stage at the last Apple event. I suspect that person hates it as well, but had to make it look good on stage. So when the opportunity presented itself to attempt to replace the remote I couldn’t wait.
The ONE for All replacement remote is longer and thicker then the Apple Remote while being lighter. The smooth surfaces are a welcome contract to Apple’s razor sharp edges that stab me each time I reach for the default remote. The result with the ONE for All is a much more comfortable feeling in your hand. All of the buttons are on the top surface of the remote allowing a firm grip on the remote without the constant nag of Siri being accidentally triggered by Apple’s poor choice of putting a microphone button on the side of the default remote.
Did I mention the ONE for All is backlit!!! This is by far the single greatest feature and best reason to ditch the Apple Remote completely - being able to see the buttons with the lights off.
Beyond physical dimensions, there are some changes to be aware. The first being that the ONE for All uses two triple-A batteries, not included with the remote vs Apple’s rechargeable batteries.
Apple’s back button is replaced with a MENU button but its still to the bottom left of the Clickpad and the MENU button is functionally the same.
Another change to adjust to is that on the Apple Remote pressing the center Clickpad results in a a Play/Pause action, whereas the ONE for All remote does not support this functionality, instead users must press the Play/Pause button located on the bottom center row of the remote.
The single biggest feature missing from the ONE for All is that the Clickpad swipe capabilities. I have a love/hate relationship with swiping using the Apple Remote, hating it when trying to click through using the virtual keyboard on the Apple TV but loving it when it comes to fast forwarding through content. There is no support for swiping with the ONE For All. I found myself grumbling in frustration the first few days when trying to make large skips ahead in content but eventually accepted to be more patient.
Overall I love this thing and highly recommend it to anyone with an Apple TV.

A Love / Hate device

I was excited to see a direct replacement remote for my Apple TV! Like many newer devices, these remotes use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth rather than IR like remotes of the past. This means you do not need direct line of site for them to work and the One For All follows suit.
There are a lot of things to like about this remote but it also has a few shortcomings which can make a big difference and render it useless for your specific needs.
First off, I really like the size of the remote. It fits in my hand better than the flat OEM remote for Apple TV. I also like that the keys are backlit – just pick it up and the gyro sensor lights it up. I did find that sometimes it took more than just picking up but a quick shake did the trick.
Pairing the unit is as easy as having it a few inches away from the Apple TV box and pressing a button. It was recognized immediately and setup was done. No digging through device codes. It is important to note that you can not have multiple remotes connected at the same time. Pairing the OEM back is just as simple. I did notice that when switching back to the OEM remote, a restart was needed to get all the swipe gestures working properly.
I think the D Pad (circular ring) can be easier to use than touch pads because there are solid clicks for feedback. I also like there is a power button, guide button and most importantly, a mute button.
That said, there are a few shortcomings with the One For All remote for Apple TV.
The first is the lack of batteries. Come on – at this price point two AAA batteries should have been included. I know it’s a small thing but it make a big difference.
Second, while I really like a D Pad, I would have liked if they made the D pad and center button have touch surfaces so you can use gestures.
The primary streaming service I use is Direct TV and on Apple TV, you use gestures for some of the features and controls. Most importantly, to access the audio and captioning controls you need to swipe up on the Apple Remote. There is no duplicate action with the All For One remote meaning you have no access to captioning. Even on a Fire Stick, pressing the top of the D Pad brings this menu but on this remote it’s a no go. Another feature that I can not duplicate is a tap/double tap to fast forward and rewind. On this remote, taping the left or right of the D Pad changes stations in either direction.
Finally, I’m going to guess that the price for the One For All remote is higher due to licensing with Apple, however, I recently saw Apple TV devices on sale for just a few dollars more than the remote. While I hate E-waste, replacing the entire device might just be the better way to go – especially if you do not have the current model.
I give this remote four stars since it does have good points and does everything it says, but the lack of access to features I regularly use and it’s price point make it difficult to recommend the One For All remote for Apple TV.

More remote control skills than just AppleTV

One For All Apple TV Remote (Model URC1110) is a perfectly easy to use and setup substitute or replacement for Apple’s 4KTV remote control. It’s a good thing because the brief pamphlet that is in the box offers little guidance other than a nice diagram of the remotes array of features. There is a claimed 3-device support, but that support is limited to a few key features.
SETUP: Once you put the batteries in the remote and bring it close to your apple TV, the pairing of the devices takes place. At his point, the remote will operate the Apple TV controls. This line-of-sight control using the Infrared señor in the AppleTV. The keys are back lit.
I now can move around the display screen, select the App I want, use SIRI for searches, and call up the Apple menu screen. of course, it operates differently in some ways. Where the Apple invites thumb glides across a small glide pad with selection pushes, the One For All remote offers a circle of direction buttons around a center selection button. The play, back, forward controls all work. It should be pointed out that the AppleTV only allows for one Apple Remote to be operable at any time. So, don’t think about this new remote as a twin to the original. One or the other will be workable. One will be set aside.
SETUP of TV and peripherals: I have a complex TV and Audio Video Receiver setup including my 2022 Sony TV and a slightly older Yamaha for system control. You may not have so many devices to manage. In order to control VOLUME, MUTE I needed to go into my Apple TV’s SETTING icon and instruct the Apple to control those features by making some appropriate selections in the REMOTE DEVICES submenu. The Apple TV already has these skills. As far as operating the TV menu or changing my YouTubeTV channels, the Sony didn’t respond. The Yamaha volume and mute controls did work. Not bad. I may need to revisit the channel issue again or accept there will be compromises.
CONCLUSION: The One For All remote in my UNIQUE system provides all the Apple TV4K remote feature set. It adds a few TV (Sony Bravia) skills and adds even a few AV Receiver (Yamaha) skills. Don’t read too much into the features skill because they are very limited, but they cover the items you use most. I’m perfectly happy at a very reasonable cost and practically no setup complications. Recommended.

Very nice remote. Does everything that the Apple remote does. It’s your standard plastic remote which is a good thing. It’s oversized and easy to hold and operate. All the standard functions work perfectly right out of the box. I never understood why Apple had to over design their remotes. They are tiny and hard to deal with. Who cares that they are made with aluminum. This one is so much better just for the comfort level alone. Cheaper materials is not always a bad thing. I also like that they didn’t add any additional shortcut buttons (paid advertising). The additional guide and menu buttons are helpful as well as the button to launch siri. Range is fine. I have my Apple TV hidden in a tv stand and the remote has no issues with communication or problems otherwise. The backlight is my favorite part. So nice to actually be able to see the buttons in dim or no lighting conditions. I would definitely recommend this over the regular remote. We are adding a second remote to the one in our bedroom also.
