Great Smoke/CO2 Replacement !

I really need to replace my 20 year old Smoke alarms so I had been looking at options for a smart alarm and really liked that I could find options that had both smoke and carbon monoxide.
I decided to pick start with just one to see how I liked the options and functionality. I selected the First Alert Smart Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarm. I got the battery option because I really didn’t want to replace my wired ones with another wired version.
Straight out of the box this thing was great. It clearly said “Install the App and follow the instructions.” It was a piece of cake, literally walked me through exactly every step. I setup the onelink account, named the room and area in the app for the monitor I was installing, connected to my wifi and was complete in less than 5-7 minutes. Keep in mind that it will not turn on until you attach the mount. I wanted to set mine up before I installed it so when I got to the “pairing step”, I had to attach the mount so that it would activate. I then proceeded to finish the pairing and setup before I mounted it.
Once setup, the app is great at telling me it is online and everything is OK. Next I went to test it. You basically hold down the button in the center for about 3-5 seconds and it tells you that it is about to test and it will be loud. It was correct, very loud ! I really liked that it tests the smoke first and audibly alerts you that there is smoke/fire and you should evacuate. It then goes to test the carbon monoxide and it has a different alert tone and different audible message. I really like the differentiation. It also tells you the ppm (parts per million) of carbon dioxide that it detected ( 0).
It also sent me a notification on my phone app that told me that the testing was successful. I am very impressed, zero issues. I will be buying 2 more for my other locations in the house!

Awesome, intuitive combo detector!

Well, I will be honest in saying right away that my work has not yet been set on fire or been exposed to a dangerous carbon monoxide leak, so I cannot write to how this combo detector works when that push comes to shove. But I will say that every other part of this detector I have gotten to experience so far has been fantastic, from installation to setup on our business's wifi network!
I work part time at a small business and a glaring issue I noted when working there (past firefighter/emt) was the lack of any fire detection devices. With that in mind, when I found out about this combo detector I was very excited to present it to my work as a viable option. The wireless, battery set up (battery is good for 5 years) meant low impact cost wise of setting it up, and its ability to communicate via an app over wifi to both of the owners phones means that they will be notified if the detector ever picks up smoke or carbon monoxide! With that in mind, it was a no brainer to pick this up and install it in the shop.
After opening up the packaging and downloading the app, it walks you through a step by step of how to get it installed and set up. I appreciated this as I am admittedly lacking in mechanical common sense. Now with it installed, its nice looks and reassuring presence offers us peace of mind when we are in and away from the shop. An exciting notion about it too is that later on when we move our business and get more rooms and space, we can install more of these same detectors and they are all able to communicate via the same app and wifi connection! What this means in plain terms is that if one of the detectors picks up smoke or CO, all of the alarms will sound together!
Overall, I think this is a great investment in our business and I am sure it will be great for uses too. Highly recommend!

We have iPhone’s but are a Samsung SmartThings household. This is important information to know when it comes to this particular item. This sleek looking 2-in-1 “interconnected” fire and CO2 detector is one of the most difficult smart home items I have ever had the displeasure of setting up and attempting to use for monitoring. It’s Apple Homekit ONLY compatible, which seemed to missing from the description, and without an Apple TV or HomePod, it’s worthless. Just to set the item up required I turn off my iPhone iCloud, which is a total pain, and you can’t monitor the alarm unless you have bluetooth active on your iPhone AND you must be at home. A total waste of money that supports NO integration with SmartThings or Android based products. I have already ordered a Z-Wave product to replace it, and it can’t get here fast enough.

The Onlink Smart smoke and carbon monoxide alarm is a smart choice if you want to provide some peace of mind for your house and loved ones. I was able to remove the old smoke detector in my home and replace it with this unit. Now my home is protected from not only smoke, but also the silent killer carbon monoxide. And I now have the added benefit of getting alerts on my phone when the alarm detects either smoke or carbon monoxide. Each has a unique alert sound with a voice warning. My old alarm was always going off when my wife would bake cookies and this one you can easily stop the warning without having to get a chair or step ladder to reach it. The mobile alerts could come in handy if you are not at home and you can call 911 if you need to. It could be the difference of the fire dept getting there in time or not. Set up was easy using the app, all you pretty much have to do is download the app, install the mount (I did have an issue with the mount holes lining up properly though), clip the alarm onto the bracket and then follow the set up on the app. The whole process took me less than 15 minutes and that included me getting out my step ladder and screwdriver. I did get the battery operated model, but I should have selected the wired one for my home. I didn’t realize that I had a wired set up already. The instructions do say that if you install multiple units, they they will all work together to sound alarms. I did test the alarm from the other side of the house and I was able to hear it, but it wasn’t as loud at my old unit was, so I am going to be sure to purchase a few more of these and put them closer to our bedrooms to help protect us when we are sleeping. When you are standing next to the alarm it is pretty loud, but I think it should be a little louder. Overall I am satisfied with this unit and I can’t wait to get some more to fully protect my entire house with them.

A smart device for peace of mind and safety

Overall, I’m liking the look and design of this smart smoke and carbon monoxide alarm. It has an upscale look to it and I think it ranks right up there with similar type competitors.
The alarm can run independently on battery operation, and connect to your home Wi-Fi. I believe this can also connect wirelessly to other alarms of the same brand/kind if you have them set up throughout your house. I only have the one alarm, so I was unable to verify this feature. I installed the Onelink app on my iPhone and had it setup and linked to the alarm pretty easily as it walks you through the process step by step.
In this day and age I feel all these alarms need to be this style of combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm, but when you add the smart feature aspect of it I think it makes it a real game changer for many people that are tied to a smartphone of some sort. In the case of an alarm, you get notified on your smartphone with an alert letting you know you have an incident occurring in the room you’ve labeled within the app during setup. Pretty simple to alert you and gives you notice to take action as needed, in case of a true emergency. The app plays a big part in using this alarm properly because it gives you the setup and the customization tools needed for placement and labeling. This offers audible voice alerts as well which are helpful to get your attention in addition to the chirps and beeps we all know that an alarm makes. One thing I will note is that your home should have a strong Wi-Fi signal throughout especially in the areas you locate your alarm device.
I like this alarm, I think it makes sense and adds additional security and safety to any room and home. Once you get this setup initially, you’re all set and hopefully never have to have it alert you to anything. It’s definitely a peace of mind device, but worth it.

Easy Install and Setup

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
It’s a little hard to review this since I hope to never really need to use it. I can say that setup was relatively easy.
The box includes the bracket, screws, and wall anchors to get this installed. It was easy to set this up in our home, and from beginning to end took about 30 minutes. I think it might have been a bit quicker if I hadn’t had to restart the software setup part, but that could be because I am using the iOS 13 beta so I don’t want to ding Onelink for that.
I like that it shows all the information within the app, and it can integrate with Alexa. This is one of those products that you need to have in your home, but like insurance, you hope you never need to depend on it.
Easy instructions, easy setup, app works well. I would recommend it to anyone trying to build out their smart home and looking for something that connects to their AI devices (Alexa, Siri).

Monitor your home - your most expensive investment w/ this OneLink device.
Worked great for me out of the box. Instructions were simple, easy to follow.
Installed app, located device with ease and connected to wifi, then to my Amazon Echo.
No issues if you are able to follow instructions and are familiar with IoT configurations.
Test yielded an extraordinary loud siren, one different for smoke and carbon dioxide.
Recent updates likely have resolved many of the issues people were having early on.
Device works great in Summer of 2019.
Be safe!

I love the idea of smart smoke and CO alarms

Pros:
- Easy to install
- App is easy to use
- Compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit
- VERY long battery life (Onelink claims up to 10 years)
Cons:
- Not compatible with 5GHz networks
--Setup--
Setting up the Onelink detector couldn't have been easier. The included manual is very easy to read and understand, yet very detailed to ensure that you are able to mount the alarm bracket in the correct location (such as not near a vent). Even if you choose to ignore the included manual, the app walks you through the same steps to ensure that the alarm works properly.
Speaking of the app, it's very neat and clean, and does an excellent job of walking you through the steps to get your new alarm on your home WiFi network. My one complaint is that it's only compatible with 2.4GHz networks.
To setup the Onelink alarm (after you secure the mounting bracket and attach the alarm) you just need to download the app to your phone, log in or create your Onelink account, create a new Home profile (only if this is your first Onelink device), select your alarm during pairing, select the WiFi network you want the alarm to use, and that's it!
--Features--
You can easily test for both smoke and CO using the large Onelink button on the alarm (you'll hear audio confirmation to begin testing and you will be prompted to move away from the alarm to protect your hearing), but you bought a WiFi-enabled alarm, so why not use the app? I've included a couple screenshots, but Onelink did a great job with their app. It's very clean and easy to use. When you open the app, your devices are listed with their current status (sensors, battery level, and when they were last tested). You can remotely test and silence each alarm with just two "clicks" from the main screen.
--Bottom Line--
I love the idea of smart smoke and CO alarms. Depending on where you need your alarm, you no longer need to get a step ladder just to test or silence an alarm. Now you can just do everything from your phone!

I was impressed with the product packaging, product look, and being FirstAlert looking forward
to its features when installed. I was really upset with the Onelink Home app and here is why.
I spent over $119 for your Onelink -Smart Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Model:1042136 & it does not work after 1 hour trying to get it connected to Apple HomeKit. The app acted like a Chihuahua chasing its tail connecting then disconnecting. Made in Mexico! I had to repeat the process countless times scanning the Hokey pokey camera reading HomeKit code until my blood pressure exceeded recommended levels.
I resolved it after last attempt before returning it. Here’s my solution. I used Apple Home app to add it ignoring Onelink Home app, had no problems, sailed through Airport setup and paired fine!. Then, completed in Onelink Home app no issues.
I am satisfied at this time.

This smoke and carbon monoxide detector lists a ton of features that look good on paper, but so far, I am underwhelmed. The user’s manual is less than helpful. For set up, it takes you through 7 steps to mount it, and the last step is to lock the unit on to the base which is how it turns on. For me, my plan was to set it up, link to the Wi-Fi, test it, then hang it. It makes more sense that way because you do have to hold and press the test button on it for a cycle. Their way would have me standing on a ladder doing the testing. Not optimal. I locked the base sitting safely in my recliner, much easier.
Now let’s get to the app set up. I am an android user, and my wife has apple products, so I was lucky to have hers available. The owner's manual states start the app and follow the instructions. The Android app started ok, I made an account, but then had no further instructions. On the apple store, it worked immediately asking about linking a device (smoke detector etc...) to the network, and I followed through everything, that went well. It does send notifications to my apple devices when I tested it a second time in the evening, not to the android device I have hooked up, but that’s likely because I have the notifications locked down. The alarm is loud and clear, hopefully it works if I need it.
Now this battery powered detector came with information stating it can be linked to Siri or Alexa, and the app has spots to link Pandora, Spotify, iheart radio and tune in radio, but all I get is the error “add a one link safe &sound”. It says that you do not appear to have any Onelink Safe and Sound Devices. I disagree. I am thinking there is just a flaw in their network since this is a newer product and hope they get this fixed, or it may be slow to get my account all lined up. I have e-mailed the company to ask if there is something else I need to do.
Finally, a pro of this so far is that it is portable. I am moving soon, and will be able to take this with me easily, but if I got the hardwired one, I’d have to do more than just take it down from the nails. With that being said, a negative is it uses a proprietary battery pack. It says it will last 5 years. We will see about that. Right now, I do not see any of them for sale on their website or anywhere. I’m just hopeful it’s because the product is newer and they just haven’t gotten them out their yet. If they don’t get the separate battery replacement, and force a person to buy a whole new unit every 5 years, I will not be replacing every 5 years. I admit I got this as a tester, and I would not have bought it for myself at full price. Honestly right now at this stage, I don’t see why anyone else should either. It has minimal advantages over a basic 30 dollar batter and smoke and CO2 detectors that I have now. I don’t see why anyone else should either. It has minimal advantages over a basic 30 dollar batter and smoke detector that I have. I hope they get the bugs fixed with the android app, and hope that it will finally link to my accounts, that will help this products a ton. It's a shame they launched this without everything working seamlessly.

---Highlights---
Battery Powered Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector, Loud Alarm, Voice Alerts, Apple HomeKit Compatible, App Control
---SETUP---
The first step is to mount the detector. This is important because the device won’t activate until it is attached to the mounting bracket. Included in the box is an assortment of screws and dry wall anchors.
The next step is to download the App and pair the detector. This process was straightforward and simple if you have paired a smart device to an App before.
Once this is done the ten year shelf life clock begins. After ten years the sensors in this detector expire and it will deactivate. That is longer than my last carbon monoxide detector which only rated to last for five years.
---USE AND PERFORMANCE---
This detector is battery powered and that is exactly what I wanted, I have an assortment of wired detectors in my home that are wired in a series and I was not ready to tackle replacing them all at this time. First Alert makes a wired version of this smart detector if you prefer to go that route. The battery in this detector is rated to last five years.
The App is easy to use and intuitive. It allows a nice amount customization of detector features. There is no night light in this detector which the wired version has.
The alarm is very loud 85 dB which is a great thing in an emergency. Voice alerts provide specific details about type and location of the alert.
---BOTTOM LINE---
Every home should have at least one carbon monoxide detector. To not have one puts yourself and your family at risk. It is not the cheapest detector out there, but it is worth it for the peace of mind it provides me that I have done everything I can to protect myself and the ones I love.

Easy way to a connected fire and CO alert system

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Disclaimers:
1) I was given this product in return for my fair and honest review.
2) I already own first-generation OneLink smoke/CO detectors and OneLink Environment Monitors, so it's a product line I'm familiar with.
The First Alert Onelink Smart Smoke + Carbon Monoxide Alarm is one of the best ways to keep your home and your family safe. It's easy to setup, the alert is very loud, and it's connectivity features are among the best on the market. Both the OneLink app and Apple's HomeKit smart home system make it easy to monitor the system. The siren alarm is very loud, the spoken alarm is easy to hear. Compared to the first-gen model, it's a nice upgrade.
Setup:
I configured this with my iPhone. It uses HomeKit, which makes setup simple. You activate the alarm by attaching the base and waiting for it in initialize. Once this is completed, the OneLink app will ask you to scan a code on either a card that came in the box or on the alarm itself. it takes about 2 minutes for the setup to complete.
Note that if you need to reset the unit for any reason, you press the test button 5 times and remove the device from the app, then start over.
You mount the unit either high on a wall or on the ceiling. A mounting plate is included that makes installation easy.
Usage:
You can use this unit like a traditional smoke alarm, using the button to initialize tests and silence false alarms. When multiple units are installed, a test on one unit will run the test on all units. However, you didn't buy this smoke alarm to use it like a traditional smoke alarm, you bought it so when you have to test or silence it, you could do so from your phone or tablet. For short people, this is very useful as you don't have to find a chair, stool, or broom to perform the testing or silence the unit.
The battery version of this smoke alarm lacks a night light that the wired version has.
This generation also has a feature the first generation lacks - easily replaceable battery. While it's in the form of a proprietary pack and not standard-sized batteries, it's a step in the right direction.
Criticisms:
Since these are photoelectric alarms instead of the traditional ionizing alarms, you do have to clean it more often; this is true with all photoelectric smoke alarms, however.
The spoken alerts could be louder.
When the alerts go off, the light ring glowing white would be a nice touch. The ring is lit by red, green, and blue LEDs.
Conclusion:
This model of Onelink Smart Smoke + Carbon Monoxide Alarm is an improvement over the outgoing model. Definitely worth the price if you want a connected smoke alarm system that's easy to configure and use.

Easy Install and Setup, But Limited "Smarts"
|

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
We have a number of plain (dumb) FirstAlert 10 yr smoke detectors in our house. I wanted to add a smoke + CO detector and the FirstAlert OneLink smart detector seemed like a natural. Because of location the detector needed to be battery powered and a smart, wifi detector seemed like a bonus.
Installation and setup was easy. Battery power meant no wiring to the unit, just install two anchors (the base doubles as a template for drilling the holes), screw mount the base, and twist on the unit. Download the app (NOTE: this is an Android installation) and follow the instructions to set up the unit. Took about 10 minutes, it really couldn't have been much easier.
Once the detector is on your wifi network and connected to the phone you can run through a test (yes, it's really, really loud), and monitor the operation of the detector, including battery life. This is where the limits of the OneLink become apparent. There is limited integration with home control technologies. Apple Homekit and Alexa are supported, but currently Google (Nest) Home is not, although there is a comment on the support site that they are "Working with Google". There is no integration with Samsung SmartThings. The account you create at FirstAlert/OneLink is accessible only through the phone app, there is no web gateway for monitoring or control or alerts. There is also no integration with IFTTT, which is really a shame as it would be nice to have the OneLink detector turn on the (smart) house lights for exit if a fire is detected, or trigger other devices. One other feature that would be really nice to have is to track the level of particulates and CO over time, as this is becoming a 'thing' for homes in real estate sales, but there is no reporting of sample levels.
All in all, it's basically a regular smoke + CO detector with a remote alert to phone capability. Nice to have the remote alert, but the OneLink could have been much more. Really hope that FirstAlert adds more integrations and functionality in the future.

Good choice of Smart Alarm for Peace of mind
|

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I have been using First Alert smoke/CO alarms for several years. This is my first Smart Alarm and I must say I’m very pleased.
It was very easy to install, only took me about 10 minutes. The OneLink Smart Alarm replaces my old First Alert Smoke/CO detector.
The OneLink I have is battery operated only but there is a hardwired version as well. I like the 2-in-1 protection as it gives me peace of mind.
Setup – was OK. The app was easy to download and install, but I did have some difficulty connecting the alarm to my WiFi thru the app and it would crash. I finally uninstalled the app and reinstalled it and was able to complete the setup. I have a Samsung Galaxy smartphone so setup was quick and actually painless. In setting up the app you have a choice of alerts by room and/or area. I have mine set up for the Hallway by 2 bedrooms. Using the app, you can test it, check the battery, silence it and see if the alarm is working properly (Alarm status).
Notifications – is by voice and very loud beeps. The set of beeps are different for Smoke and CO and the voice will tell you which one it is as well as the location of the alarm that’s activated.
The battery operated OneLink can be placed anywhere in your home. The user’s manual gives excellent instructions on the proper placement of the alarm where it will be most beneficial. The battery pack consists of 3 cell lithium metal batteries bundled together and should last approximately 5 years before they need to be replaced. Unfortunately, since they are special batteries, you most likely either have to buy them from an electronics store or First Alert. Hopefully they will be more common in the near future and can be purchased in other retailers and on-line.
Pros – easy setup thru the OneLink app. Easy to monitor from the app. Quick installation. Not as sensitive as some of the older versions that went off when you take a shower from the steam.
Cons – Not too many – mainly just the battery pack is specially made for the First Alert OneLink Smart Alarm and can only be purchased from certain retailers (brick and mortar or online). The OneLink app may have to be uninstalled and reinstalled to connect it correctly to WiFi.
So far, I’m very pleased with it and the fact that if something goes wrong when I’m not home, I can alert emergency responders.
If you want peace of mind and like smart devices, the First Alert Smart Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm is a good choice. I gave it 4 stars only because the app had to be reinstalled after crashing a few times on the first installation.

High-Tech Meets Old-Fashion

The latest cutting-edge technology is not always the best thing. It's nice to have cool, handy features and tunable tech that does what YOU want it to do, not just a generalized set of features. It's also nice to have "old school" tried-and-true solutions that work when you aren't at your quick-thinking best.
The Onelink Smart Smoke/Carbon Monoxide (CO) Alarm is really te best of both worlds:
It features keen detection of two common household killers, remote notification to your smartphone, and self-diagnostics.
It also provides a good old-fashion alarm - loud and annoying, as it should (must) be. (You really do want this thing to wake you up if it detects a problem!) It also spells it out for you with a clear voice briefly telling you what's wrong, and that you should get out!
An app download is required, but it's free, and the setup is pretty fast and easy. Just don't do the setup while someone is sleeping - it makes some noise.
I have the battery-pack-powered unit, but there is also a hardwired unit available. The beefy lithium battery pack should last quite a while, which is nice, but it would be a bit more reassuring to know that it can be replaced if necessary with a quick trip to the grocery store. I'll bet the battery pack isn't cheap.

This is for the WiFi version of the detector.
Physical setup was straight forward, as was the installation and setup of the application. I admit I've never enjoyed getting up on a ladder, but that's not the fault of the product!
I did a simple test by lighting a small, round super-ball sized "smoke bomb" we had leftover from 4th of July. It took roughly 10 seconds of smoke blowing almost directly on the unit for it to go off. Now, in the grand scheme of things 10 seconds isn't much, but it could make the different between life and death in a real-world scenario!
I have no way to do a real-world test of the carbon monoxide sensor.
Overall the unit was much better than the one I had, and much more modern.

First, let me start by saying that I didn’t burn down my house for this review. I’m sorry, I know that probably would have been the best way to test this smoke detector, but . . . no.
That being said, I played with it for a week, and I got a good feel for it.
Before you do ANYTHING install the app. It will guide you through the installation. Also, there’s a little book inside the box guiding you through the installation as well. You should read that too. The app does a good job of guiding you, but it skips over how exactly the mounting holes are supposed to work.
And speaking of mounting, the smoke detector seemingly will not activate until it’s up on a wall or ceiling. I tried setting it up with it sitting in my hand (thinking that I’d just attach it to a wall after it was configured), and it wouldn’t even turn on.
Once installed . . . it’s a smoke / CO detector. It basically just sits there quietly and you forget about it unless there is an issue.
The accompanying app offers you various alerts and testing options. But aside from that, you can set it up and forget about it.
I commute to work, and it’s a comfort knowing that I’ll get a phone alert if anything ever happens while I’m away from home. I would strongly recommend this smoke detector.

I love the idea of a smart smoke and carbon monoxide alarm. Since we travel quite frequently, I like the idea of getting a notification on my phone if CO2 or smoke is detected. Also, since my home does not have wired smoke detectors, I like the idea of being able to link several together just like a wired system.
The Onelink Smart Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm is as easy to install as any other smoke detector. However, first you have to download the app on your iPhone or android phone and follow the setup instructions. Then choose the location you want to install it. Once you lock the detector into the mounting bracket, it turns on and helps to guide you through the rest of the setup.
Once I set mine up, I ran a test to make sure it was working correctly. I can tell you that the alarm could be heard loud and clear throughout my house. That was all there was to it.
Lastly, I loaded the Alexa skill for Onlink and connected it. The Alexa commands are fairly limited, but I like the idea of being able to ask Alexa what the status of my smoke alarm is.
All in all this is a pretty great addition to the safety features in my home. I plan to add a couple of more on the other floors and link them all together.

This is the worst product ever stay far far away from this product. All it does is set off false alarms and when you try to silent it from the app it doesn't work either

I've never had a carbon monoxide detector in my home, but I've always wanted one just for that extra safety measure. They were a little too expensive for my budget at the moment, but I got this product on a whim being hopeful with the fact that it duals as a smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector. I also really enjoy "smart" technology.
I'm a nerd for anything I sync up with my Apple products so seeing this pairs well with Apple Homekit was a win for me. The set up was super easy. I just followed the directions, downloaded the apps that I needed and the product synced up pretty effortlessly. I read in further research of this detector that some people have had a lot of issues with setups or being disappointed with how it functioned. It's too early in the stage for me to say that I truly love this thing as I only set it up yesterday and haven't tested it out fully, but my app seems to be working properly, the device seems to be connected and functioning and it hasn't gone off yet...so I'd say that's a good thing.
