So far so good! I recently bought into the hype and purchased a 7.2 Denon receiver and was not very impressed. I saw this new 7.2 Onkyo receiver was just released into the market so I purchased it to compare with my new Denon and in my opinion this Onkyo receiver blows it out of the water. I paired this receiver with a 3.1.2 Klipsch setup with plans of going up to 5.2.2 soon. Definitely a great buy and recommend it to everyone!

GREAT receiver!! This is the third Onkyo receiver I’ve owned and it’s outstanding. Upgrading from a 12 year old Onkyo (still works great just older hdmi that won’t support 4k). It’s powering a 5.1 system and even at only 80 watts/channel it’s loud and clear. Calibration and room correction are a good starting point but you will need to tweak the settings to taste (calibration set my fronts to a 40hz crossover even though I have a sub) Updates are easy with wifi. NOTE: Old reviews talk to spring clips for speaker connections however this model has been updated to binding posts. Additionally, this model does not support HDR10+ only supports HDR and Dolby Vision. IMO not a game changer unless you want to spend another $100 for the NR6100

I purchased this, wanting really to purchase the Onkyo TX-NR7100, which has still to hit the shelves but has been unavailable for months now. The NR5100 would suffice, although it it a bit limited on HDMI inputs, they were sufficient for me. I wanted a future-proof product to replace my Integra (aka Onkyo) DTR-40.3 which sounded great but did not support 4k video. My grudge was that for the center and surround channels it just had spring speaker clips, not screw terminals and I associate them with budget receivers. So I bit and bought this at Best Buy. Pros All the inputs and outputs for my setup Sufficient amplifier power Feature -rich, including 8k video Nice menu system, albeit a little confusing 'Works with Sonos'. Don't underrate this. As soon as you select a Sonos playlist on your (phone) app the amplifier will power up and select the Sonos audio input and volume level you had previously set. That's nice, but even nicer is it does not introduce a processing delay in the audio. I was vexed by my Integra and previous receivers. They would add a few hundred milliseconds in the audio path if you applied the 'All-Speaker' audio setting. The only way to prevent this was to limit the Sonos audio to stereo, in the room where you had installed rear and ceiling speakers! The delay would cause a horrible echo when you walked into another room where a different Sonos was also playing. I had to use a 6 channel pre-amp to fool the Integra, but it is not necessary on this unit. Cons Those spring clip speaker connections are really second rate. Not a great AccuEQ. This room-sound calibration system comes in different recipes. This was a one-location low-end solution. I was used to placing the supplied microphone in different locations during the setup process, to equalize the sound settings to accommodate more than one person seated in the family room. Noticeably lost is your ability to review the settings it arrives at as well. You cannot review the equalizer settings it has applied. Sonos music sounded pretty good, but the amplifier sound playing a movie felt 'cold'. OK, not great English, but the sound was definitely off-par. I tried recalibrating, but in the end, the immersive sound delight I was pursuing simply felt 'not there'. I ended up returning it and managed to purchase a reconditioned Onkyo TX-RZ840 directly from the Onkyo website. It is sweet, and well worth the extra dollars.

So I just picked this up today. I went to a BestBuy in one town and saw the model last night, while they did not have it in stock, they did have a model on display. I went to another BestBuy today and picked it up. The display model had the four sound posts and alligator clips as shown in the photo. However, the receiver I purchased had all sound posts with no alligator clips. I am not sure why the demo had one connection and the one I got had another. The box showed sound posts, so, if that is important to you, look for that. Setup was easy, sound is excellent. I have only had this a matter of hours, so I cannot comment on longevity, but I cannot imagine having long term problems. I would definitely recommend this product.

This unit works very well. I got it because the HDMI board on my old Onkyo went bad. Got this one mostly because of the wifi and app control. You still cannot control every aspect of the unit by the app, but you can change inputs and volume and many other things which is needed for me because the unit is not mounted line of sight. One bad thing is the center/surround/height speaker outputs are old school wire push in and NOT banana pins. Even though the front L/R inputs ARE banana pin. The other, wish it had, was 6 HDMI inputs instead of 4.

I purchase this a few weeks ago on an open box deal and it's been amazing. Great sound, a little on the simple side with features and tuning. But that keeps it easy to use. I'll be honest, I wish I would have went my normal route with Pioneer but I'm not dissatisfied with the purchase, just not a fan of Onkyo's choice of styling or display color. One issue, if you're going to make a receiver for gaming, then please include more connections than HDMI.

A nice unit that can power front speakers with a 4 ohm impedance. But it drove me nuts!!! With my SONY Bravia TV, no matter what the settings on either device, and there are many with these things, when using the eARC mode, when you turn on the TV the receiver always turns on!!! That drove me nuts! And when I called Onkyo tech support to see if there was a way around that, to be able to use the TV remote to control the receiver but avoid the auto turn-on, the reply was "you can't have your cake and eat it too." Unfortunately, he was not aware of the original version, used by the crazy Unabomber in his manifesto, that makes more sense. "You can't eat your cake and have it too."

The Onkyo - TX-NR5100 80W 7.2-Ch. with Dolby Atmos Home Theater and Gaming AV Receiver with Alexa Compatible - Black is an excellent receiver. The Dolby ATMOS and DTS X adds a great sound to your system at a price one can afford. This is my third Onkyo receiver. This one is in my living room and my older model is upstairs in my bedroom. You will be happy with your purchase.

Overall this unit is built very well. I decided to get this since I wanted to upgrade from my older Onkyo unit. While I like the fact it includes Dolby Vision I have some reservations on how Atmos is enabled. My older unit automatically provided Atmos; however, this new unit you are required to select it on the front panel. This is the main reason I gave 4 stars. I would think Onkyo would have kept the auto feature for Atmos. My thoughts only and others might not care one way or the other. Suffice to say, this 5100 does the job and though I have some frustration on the Atmos I believe this unit is outstanding in all other aspects and highly recommend it!

Excellent receiver. Easy to setup. Got at 10% off so made price a lot better and a better deal. Sounds great and no issues pairing with Hisense U7G. Took about an hour to set up. Calibration was simple using set up program and provided mic. Highly recommend.

The start lag on power up is a bit slow. The sound quality is nice. I know it's a mid-level system, but more DTS sound fields would be nice. I have been a Yamaha guy my whole life. I wanted to try something new based on Atmos and HDMI inputs to my TV and media PC. It has plenty of wattage for my Klipsch Pro12s.

Great sounding receiver. Setup was a breeze. ARC worked intermittently and would seem to cut out a lot. What really turned me off from this receiver tho is the lack of speaker binding posts. Why a $500 plus receiver has only spring clips for speaker wires is beyond me. I decided to exchange it for an open box Yamaha RX-A2A which is superior all around.

As a retired sound engineer I'm pretty picky when it comes to audio. I'm used to power hungry speakers and fat overpowered amps. I was forced to retire my amp due to size constrains as it was too big for the cabinet. I decided to take a chance on this unit just to see how far tech had come. All I can say is it's not your daddy's Onkyo. A lot of features in a small package and decent sound through good speakers. It wont break windows but it sounds great through my Veritas V2.4i.
