Customers enjoy the TX-NR5100's remarkable sound quality and ease of use, frequently praising its setup process and affordability. Great sounding receiver. Setup was a breeze. ARC worked intermittently and would seem to cut out a lot. What really turned me off from this receiver tho is the lack of speaker binding posts. Why a $500 plus receiver has only spring clips for speaker wires is beyond me.
I decided to exchange it for an open box Yamaha RX-A2A which is superior all around.

As a retired sound engineer I'm pretty picky when it comes to audio. I'm used to power hungry speakers and fat overpowered amps. I was forced to retire my amp due to size constrains as it was too big for the cabinet. I decided to take a chance on this unit just to see how far tech had come. All I can say is it's not your daddy's Onkyo. A lot of features in a small package and decent sound through good speakers. It wont break windows but it sounds great through my Veritas V2.4i.

Well, this is a great receiver. I purchased a $900 Denon immediately before this one, and returned it because it just didn’t have the sound profile that I needed. Once this one was configured with a microphone and a custom EQ I cannot believe the difference in sound quality for a much cheaper price than the Denon. I pair this with a 5.1 Polk speaker system. I have a JVC subwoofer on the side that I hardly even need because this produces such nice bass. If you were considering the Denon over this one, do yourself a favor and get this one.

This unit really does a good job at surround sound. All the hookups you could need plus 4K. The sound is great and the setup is easy. If you need a good mid-level unit this Onkyo is a good choice.

It sounds great. It would probably sound even better with better speakers. It doesn't have as many inputs as previous amps but i don't use that many devices anymore.
The volume is positive instead of negative, and the number displayed seems to be roughly the decibels, both of which I like.

The receiver has decent sound and is fairly configurable to the environment it's placed in. You can choose whether to playback for 7,2 down through stereo output and mixed modes in between - including whether to specify a channel for subwoofer exist or not. Drawback - no stereo line output to record or connect a second amplifier.

Input switching is slow. When passing 4k, the screen will occasionally blip out for 10 seconds then return. Started doing this after about 6 months. Still a pretty good unit. Not enough HDMI inputs. Will replace soon.

This was the best purchase. I initially bought the a much more expensive Sony, and works just as but setup with this device was easier especially with using the app.

Not a bad choice for a budget receiver but I found 3 things particularly annoying:
1) no usb on the front, have to get behind the receiver/rack every time you want to add music to your usb
2) bluetooth is terrible, constantly cuts out
3) speaker connections in back do not accommodate banana plugs
