Very good receiver. Purchased this as a replacement for one that stopped working and was very pleased with the ease of installation. This is a great value with all the bells and whistles but at a mid-price. Would recommend

I bought this receiver because I needed a new one to pair with my 4K TV (75" Samsung Q80T). After hemming and hawing for too long, there weren't many options to choose from unless I wanted to spend $2000+, but I'm happy with this purchase. Installation and set-up was easy, but make sure you go through the menus and verify that things are set right. There's a lot of settings that I haven't looked at (for Alexa, Sonos, etc. cuz I don't use them) but overall things are pretty intuitive. One thing I thought was interesting was that this receiver has some kind of pre-set settings for Klipsch speakers and subs which are completely left out of the specs and info sections on websites. I have 2 Klipsch R-12SW subs (which are great!!) and will probably be getting some Klipsch speakers in the new year. Another thing I thought was strange was that this receiver has 2 HDMI Outs. What for? Well, it's actually great for my situation because I can run my PS5 through one port and into the one (and only) 120Hz port on the TV (HDMI 4), and then use the other receiver HDMI Out for the e-ARC to/from the TV (HDMI 3). If you are going to use both HDMI Outs, make sure you have the receiver settings for that correct or your devices will act...weird.

This is my 4th Onkyo Receiver. I’ve never had an issue with any of them, but due to changes in HDMI I’ve been upgrading them as things change. This one supports 8k passthrough @ 60Hz or 4k Passthrough at 120Hz. I use this as a 4k passthrough on my LG OLED C series tv. Latency is near non existent crom a gaming standpoint. CEC works great and the HDR10, eARC and atmos are great to have. I bought mine on sale at a 400 Dollar price point and its definitely worth that price. Wifi capable, Bluetooth capable, support airplay, chrome cast, Alexa (this isn’t great), and most major music apps. If your not an Audiophile but prefer 5.1/7.2 Surround to a sound bar this is a great option. Note that this is also compatible with SONOS so if you’d prefer wirless surround you can make it happen.

I owned a 7 channel Kenwood receiver for years that was absolutely great but eventually gave out over time. Different functions gradually stopped working but also it became outdated for today's technology. This Onkyo stepped in and did exactly what I needed it to do and more. It controls my family room a/v system with surround and also controls a set of inconspicuous speakers in the living room that I can turn on and off separately. I'm very satisfied with this unit.

Onkyo has long been struggling with HDMI issues, after my TX-NR 809 , i had read that Onkyo had overcome many of those problems, so when the oppertunity came up to by tge TX-NR5100, i thought it may be a better product, boy was i wrong, still having HDMI priblems, and now CEC and eARC as well, I literraly have to power reboot it every morning else the audio from both TV, cable and apple tv, goes into never land and does not come back until the TX-NR5100 is power rebooted (hold the power button for 5 seconds), sorry to say, I would not recommend.

Product is great, buying at Best Buy, not so much. This was my 2nd unit I bought open box and it was indicated that it included all accessories, which bumped up the price from the "good" and "fair" open box units. I could have saved $50+ buying one that did not include the accessories, but I wanted the setup mic and antennas supplied with the unit. Neither unit came with them. When I called Best Buy, they offered a $25 gift card. That doesn't even come to half the difference in price from "excellent" to "fair" condition. After wasting time, money the least they could do was provide the unit for the correct price. Best Buy doesn't care about customer service anymore and that's too bad. It's the ONLY reason they should still exist. As far as the receiver. It works good. The streaming functionality is wonderful and the ability to control it from the phone is even better. I have this setup to where I am only using my phone to play music with it now from multiple streaming services. It's all controlled through the app and it relatively responsive. Too bad Best Buy sucks now.

    I got a lemon

I will say at the least this receiver sounds incredible when it works. It is hooked up via CEC meaning when the TV is turned on, it also switches on the the receiver. Problem is there is no sound coming from the receiver. This happens every time. I'd have to unplug the receiver, count to five and plug in back in and then it will work. This became a real hassle after awhile, so I decided to disable the CEC function on the TV and receiver to turn everything on manually. That did not resolve the issue. Same problem. I'd have to unplug and plug it back in to work. I did a firmware update to no avail. This is unacceptable to pay this much money for a product that does not work properly. I must have gotten a lemon, because Onkyo is a reputable brand and the customer reviews are pretty good. Now I have to go through the headache of packing this up, pay for shipping, and pay for insurance to send it to an authorized Onkyo service center. I wish I had gotten Geek Squad Protection. Lesson learned.

Just bought this receiver the other day and it's been exceptional so far. Plenty of power, very clean and crisp audio output for bluetooth/streaming audio via Spotify. Connected to my tv just fine. I do not have it hooked up to a gaming system, yet, but so far it has performed exactly how I had hoped. I paired this with B&W floor speakers and center channel and it has more than enough power for them - despite them being power hungry. I purchased a KEF Kube 10b and for whatever reason, it seems weak and "flat" compared to my old subwoofer. Could be settings as I am still setting it all up but all in all, this seems to be a very powerful and capable receiver.

I bought this online as an open box item, shipped across the country. The price was very low for a supposedly "Excellent" product. First thing I discovered is that the setup mic was apparently not working. Worse, though, is that although the receiver could output test tones to my powered sub, I could not get it to output to the sub when actually playing content. The bass response to my front speakers also seemed weak. I thought this was some setup issue, but no changes to sound modes, crossovers, speaker setup, etc. could produce any change. I kept researching this problem and troubleshooting, unfortunately past my short return period. No, problem I thought, I'll make a warranty claim. Nope, Onkyo doesn't honor their warranty on products sold as open box or clearance.
