Use factory Setup
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Extremely good surround sound A/V receiver as long as you use the factory setup! Finding the setup procedure is another thing. Onkyo does not lead you to the Factory setup with its Initial Setup Guide. Setup the speakers using the provided microphone is your best choice.

Great receiver
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This receiver is a new addition to my home theater system. It is replacing a Bose Lifestyle system. It opens up a world of possibilities that the Bose system was unable to compete with. Love this receiver.

Sounds great. Has issues.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this for the HDMI 2.1 capabilities. Used Dolby Atmos with a 5.2.1 setup, and it sounded fantastic. Sadly, the HDMI CEC did not work. I tried it with 3 different TVs, and multiple sources that support CEC. Even purchased a new Ultra High-Speed cable. It only worked if the AV receiver was recently shut off, any time after ~2 minutes and the CEC "consumer electronics control" would fail to work. This led me to believe there is an issue with the firmware and how it controls the non-volatile memory. I worked with Onkyo support on this, and they assured me it should be working as expected. After replacing the unit at BestBuy and countless factory resets, I gave up. The item has been returned. I am now waiting for a 2024 or later model. I wanted so badly to keep the unit. It sounded great, but I wanted it to work as advertised. Another item I should point out. This does not have "full-fat" HDMI 2.1. It is limited to 40Gbps, not the full 48Gbps. If you were to purchase a TV that supported 4K @144Hz "looking at you LG 2024 OLED C4", this AV receiver would not be able to pass through the signal.

Old guy-not a techy
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I admit that I wanted either the Denon or Yamaha..Had an old Yamaha , that I loved, that got torched with a power spike...shame on me..can't believe I didn't have this one plugged into a surge protector..Have Denon in other room. But, both were back-ordered and I read the reviews on the Onkyo-particularly on CNET, which I trust. Bought last one of these in stock and hooked it up. Works like a charm. Had a litttle hiccup with my Samsung TV, but, a quick interent search resolved that. I liked the set-up process as well.

||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best receiver I’ve ever purchased. Got it for a steal from Best Buy. I paired it with Epson LS21000 projector. Looks and sounds like I’m in a real theater.

Good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Its a good buy for the price. Just that i dont like some of the presents that it has. They sound too echoing and not enough voice. I have tried adjusting but still the same.

Onkyo On Point
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really happy with this 7.2 channel Onkyo Receiver purchase. Compared this one closely with the Yamaha RX-V6A, and while I have owned Yamaha in the past, I could not pass up the price or THX-Certified experience of the Onkyo.

Had to return (horrible reciever)
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had to return this, horrible reciever, try to use bluray function no picture appeared on the tv, and i didn’t feel like i was getting the surround sound effect with this no matter what option i choose, calbration on this does not work. I never heard of this onkyo brand my Yamaha receiver was over 15 years old and I upgraded to this to keep up with technology advances because this has a bunch of hdmi in the back my old Yamaha was all rca only, never heard of the brand Denon im used to buying products like Yamaha, sony, but since this the onkyo didn’t work for me i tried the denon and im so happy with it, the calibration was better and easier and more detailed than the onkyo. I feel the surround sound effect i was looking for with the denon :)

Not what it used to be.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've owned 4 Onkyo receivers over the last 15 years and all within the same parameters as this receiver but with of course latest tech upgrades. This has by far been the worst ever. I played with it adjusting everything to make it come close sounding to my last Onkyo. It sounded so bland and powerless. I do 5.2.2 set up and even with 2 subs it made John Wick sound like an episode of Mr Rogers Neighborhood. Normally the bass would rumble to the neighbors house and now it would barely come through. I decided to start from scratch, rewire, and do setup again. Same thing and gave up after a week of frustration. After a ton of research (which is very hard to come by, recommend Forums versus online reviews as they don't seem to legit) I was between a Denon and a Yamaha ended up going with the Denon AVR-X1700H it had less watts than the Onkyo and previous Onkyos I had but it seemed like the safest bet as far as future proofing for the next 4 or 5 years. Highly recommend, very easy (although primitive) set up screen. Great and accurate Audyssey set up I barely had to adjust settings. Now for the same test John Wick. Night and day for sure, my Atmos speakers worked better than ever, bullet casings falling every where, the subs were on point as well. I don't want to bash Onkyo as of course I only ever buy mid priced receivers. My budget is key as I'm not an Imax, nor feel the need to go over my $600 to $700 max budget. That budget at times is even pushing it sometimes but I do like the added features and upgrades that come within that price range. Their top tier receivers may sound like what I was used to with their previous mid range receivers, but that also says a lot of who they may be targeting, audiophiles with deep pockets.

Txnr6100
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really wanted to like this receiver, but i knew from the moment i connected to my tv, it had issues. From the get-go, the on screen would go dark, come back then go dark, etc. Finally after it returned to setup menu, the test tones were so loud, i thought they would blow my klispch r620 woofers. When i connected my old school 300 disc Sony cd player to the optical imput, and run menus again, i would lose the cd signal (ugh)...Ive had onkyos in the past, NEVER any issues. Im currently running a entry level Pioneer Elite, and it sounds just fine, but i thought maybe, just maybe the Onkyo txnr6100 would be my last receiver. I know theres always lemons, but this receiver left me sour, pun intended. I may opt for the older txnr696, but to disconnect all my sources is a hassle, so i dont know. Ive read reviews that praise this receiver, so i think i may give that one a shot.
