quality sound and versatility at affordable price
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.first, the sound quality is exceptional user friendly set up and operation was my main choice because it has room to grow as i can afford more/better speakers, as well as, offering dual zone capabilities. very happy with this product

It talks to my CD player!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wasn’t in the market but my almost new Denon would not talk to my 6 disc CD player with only RCA outputs. Not only does the new Onkyo receiver work it has a Zone 2 feature that works with intuitive controls. The Denon also had Zone 2 but I was never able to get it to work when I needed it to work. This new Onkyo is user friendly like no Denon that I have ever owned. Musical quality difference is undecernable IMHO. Likewise features and benefits of both match up perfectly. The Onkyo is simply more functional do to user friendliness.

Can't beat the price and sound quality.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love this unit and the sound quality. I only wish it supported more wireless speaker systems. Great that it has 2 HDMI out ports. Powerful and good value.

Super easy setup, tons of features
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this to replace a broken low end Yamaha. I've only had it a couple days so far. The Yamaha HDMI ports were pre 4k, as well as not functional. I recently upgraded the TV from a 10 year old Panasonic Plasma to the TCL 6 series. (another awesome product) In my application - it's just running a simple 5.1 system with Polk speakers. No 2nd zone. Pros: ARC function works great Sound quality is great (to be expected) Setup menu on screen is easy to use and beautifully presented in plain English. Streaming capability and AirPlay support works seamlessly. Remote is not overly complicated. Cons: Won't bluetooth out audio to wireless headphones. It's moderately expensive. The included mic for balancing and crossover settings isn't really all that valuable.

Onkyo TX-NR696
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far so good. Sounds great and seems to have plenty of power for the speakers I am running. Only thing to note is that you get some noticeable relay clicking when it is switching from surround sound content and stereo/mono content. I know it is normal to do so but it is a pretty pronounced sound.

Decent for the $ but not premium grade
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really, this is a decent receiver. But I'm exchanging it for a higher end AVR. I was pleased with the sound, but my speakers deserve better control at lower volumes and my subwoofer sounds like a garbage disposal. Again, not the fault of the unit, I just mistook this for something that could achieve more clarity on a large set of speakers. Impressive virtual Soundstages, but short on features. Remote feels a little cheap. Couldn't stream video to built-in chromecast. Would recommend it higher, if it weren't priced $50 less than better units from other manufacturers.

Great upgrade

Great Product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great product. Easy to program. Love having 2 channels so can use for speakers outdoors for music and speakers indoors for a movie at the same time. Wish the app was a bit more user friendly.

An OK receiver -- nothing special.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A decent receiver, not very special. I bought it because of excellent reviews by multiple sources on the web. As a boomer, I needed the geek squad to help me with the digital setup. PROS: Powerful with all the extras. However, you don't need Dolby Atmos nor 7.2 because there are no sources available to take advantage of. Netflix, Amazon and Apple TV have no movies for Atmos nor 7.2 surround sound. I did set up the 7.1 hoping that the receiver could virtually produce the sound experience I was looking for - NOT. The sound was clear when playing Spotify and Pandora. CONS:The Bluetooth circuit was defective but I was able to use Apple Play to listen directly from my phone with Spotify and Pandora. Biggest disappointment were the surround sound modes. When compared to my old Yamaha, there isn't near the dramatic sound modes as in the Yamaha. I think the Yamaha sounds a lot better. If you're not an audiophile, any receiver would be adequate. I was attracted by the features but disappointed in the end. Lastly, I miss the days when you could compare AV equipment in the store. None of the equipment is setup AND the floor staff have no clue.

Could enjoy the TV without it
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My TV only has three HDMI slots. This has many more. I plug in DVD player, TIVO, Roku, Chromecast and I have a long HDMI cable to plug in my laptop directly. I can switch from one to the other easily with the receiver. Sound quality is great.

Best in class!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my 3rd Onkyo Receiver and they have not disappointed. Easy to use, excellent fidelity. My only issue is I wish I had gotten the 9.2 instead of the 7.2. Highly recommended for beginners or pros that want something thats hassle free and works.

Onkyo is awesoMe
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve had Denon , Pioneer, and Onkyo. The Denon was the price of a small vehicle but whenever I had Onkyos they were the only ones who could shine a light to the Denon. Ease of use, great sound, enough ports and options to have a respectable home theater
