||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This receiver says on the box that it is Dolby Atmos supported. Once I unboxed this and set it up, it did not have Dolby Atmos. The instructions actually had me go to a website and download an update. It required a certain kind of USB drive and the update File looked very sketchy. I did not have a USB drive nor did I want to go buy one and I sure as heck didn’t want to download that file onto my computer. Unfortunately, because of those issues, I returned the item if you do not need Dolby Atmos, then this product is fine. However, the major selling point was Dolby Atmos and DTSX which out the box did not have I hope this review helped.

Not a true "surround" receiver
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. No matter what signal I feed into it, it outputs only as all channel stereo. No discrete center or surround channels. When I push the button on the remote, or front panel to switch out of all channel stereo mode. It returns a "not available" message. I read online the solution was to update the firmware. When attempting to update the firmware, it errors out and terminates. That's after it was a pain in the posterior just to find the firmware update online. Clicking many search results triggers a malicious website warning in my browser. If it wasn't past Best Buy's return window, I would take back this piece of junk in a heartbeat. As it now stands, I lit $400 on fire. And am stuck with a worthless piece of junk that might as well be a door stop. I cannot in good conscience dump it off on a thrift store or used audio store.

Good luck trying to update the firm ware
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I installed it and found the vocals sounded very muffled like the high end sound wasn't working. I tried several times changing the speaker settings to no avail. I assumed it had the latest update as the latest one is from 2019 but no they didn't. I spent 3 hours one 2 different computers trying to format a usb drive to something the receiver would recognize to no avail. Apparently the usb drive needs to be formatted to FAT with a dos partition according to the web wehen looking into the error code. What a complete waste of my time

Short life-span
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worked great, but died within a year. Kept in a well-ventilated area, dusted regularly, never moved around. Just didn't turn on one morning.

Great receiver but missing some modern features
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For what it is, this receiver deserves a 5, but for what it isn’t, I can only give it a 4. Setup was easy and the sound quality is great across a variety of devices and audio formats. The auto calibration was spot-on for speaker distances. The issues I have with this receiver are probably just down to its age. Despite still being sold, it lacks eARC and cannot pass through 4K 120 FPS. For its price, it should be able to do this, and competing receivers from Denon at a similar price can. I got an amazing deal on one open-box, though, so I am overjoyed with the value for the money. Rating it relative to what I paid, easy 5-star receiver. But relative to its current list price new, 4 is the best I can give it.

Streamlined & Sleek
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Streamlined and sleek, this was the perfect replacement for a receiver I had for over 20 years that recently quit working. Easy to set up and use with older, larger, high quality, wired speakers that I refuse to give up, it works well and is easy on the eyes too.

Make update make sence
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pushes all my speakers well, just wish that the update for a better dolby atmos experience wasnt an impossible task to do. Also when i ran evrything through the reciever via through earc, the resolution would kinda flicker at times like it was in between resolutions but couldnt decide what one to stick with. Good clean sound and plenty of power though on a positive note.

Replaced old expensive home theater system.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Replaced a very expensive home theater system that was 25 years old and died. The Onkyo is affordable, has great HDMI connectivity and plenty of power to drive my large speakers. I run volume at 60% which seems high but there is still room to turn it up (don't need to). Good value a full of features.

Great entry into Dolby Atmos
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had the receiver for about 2 months. Sounds great and functions well. Setting it up was a breeze. Lot of good options built in. It's very nice that you can adjust the vocal setting. Only problem I have had is a lot of times when I am logging into and streaming app on my TV receiver will switch to the Blu-ray input. But I figure that's something I can look into and figure out why it's doing it

Good sound - eARC issues
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great sound, but having a real issue with eARC input from the LG OLED TV. I can get it configured and it sounds great, but when turned off and back on, it loses the connection. I even changed the cable connection to the TV and with that configuration - it lost the connection after a couple minutes, Very frustrating as the optical input isn''t as high quality as eARC.

Nice Receiver!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works great. There is something about the sound from Onkyo. Like it has something special that makes the sound more real. It's hard to explain but it just has a level of quality you have to hear to understand. I'm 100% satisfied and the unit works great! Also The open box quality was just fine. I always trust Best Buy on there judgement on how they grade there products.

Basic 7.2
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very solid, BASIC 7.2 receiver. The front display looks like it should be on a 90's washing machine. I'm trying to see it as "ïronically retro" LOL. Otherwise, it does just what it supposed to do. Sounds pretty good too. I'd say it's a fair deal.
