I recently picked up the TX-SR494 and I’m glad I did — it’s a solid entry-level AV receiver if you want immersive home-theatre sound without spending a fortune.

I had to replace a sony that was a replacement of a nice denon i had a few years ago. The sony only lasted 3 years before it stopped reading the hdmi inputs. I was going to replace it with another denon and get a better one but then this one was on sale for so cheap i decided to wait a few more years to update speakers and receiver. So running my 10 year old polk speakers and honestly its a solid unit. My polks sound way better that the sony ever did and seems so far to be holding up well. Set up was fairly standard and no complaints. Honestly for the price of this im extremely satisfied.

Great value for the price! I needed something for my record player. I even went to Goodwill but it turns out they don’t check to see if those work. They only check to see if they turn on. Typically I would buy from Amazon but the staff were really helpful so I bought it. The return policy is just ok but the convenience of living 2 miles away beats online

This is an amazing receiver, sound is so good easily setup nice to look at , unfortunately it doesn’t have a phone input so the the sound had to be way up to get listening sound, ( not blasting sound still able to talk sound) so I returned it sadly. But for surround sound and cd players wow it’s amazing and price for what you get can’t beat it with any brand I have had all the pricy ones I am 65 grew up on the best rock and roll music. If you’re looking try this for anything but phonograph.

This receiver really packs a punch. The best value for home entertainment system. Simple to navigate setup on your TV screen. Plenty of reserve power to use with or without a subwoofer.

Would have given it 5 stars but the center, surround, and zone B speaker outputs are the cheaper spring-tab type connectors, not the heavier screw-in knob types found on the main two speaker outputs, and it is a bit limited when it comes to the on-screen display choices, but it is really good overall for the money. Great sound and real good choices for audio output levels, surround sound choices, etc. OSD is good for these basic settings. Replacing a TXNR656 that gave me problems with HDMI output until it just quit within the first six months. Sound setup was completed and good, so I just ran the HDMI straight from my DIRECTV unit to the TV for video. Been living with that setup for last couple of years. (Was not able to see or use OSD with this arrangement) This unit is working great, and I am very pleased with it. My wife likes the direct input change buttons on the front and remote. Bluetooth connection ability is a step up. Got it on sale for $100 off while on vacation in Mississippi.

Very solid investment for the price. Excellent quality for sound and performance. We have it running our surround sound with our TV in our living room and are extremely pleased with all aspects. Our sons are thinking about making the same purchase based on our review and discussions. We highly recommend this product.

Very diverse settings, plenty of features for hooking up devices to play through the unit. Has a sound mic to help the system balance output through the various speakers at the seat locations. Significant upgrade to our existing stereo unit.

We did the calibration & most of the speakers aren't very loud; only the sub woofer. I think we need to try it again. It may not have been placed correctly. I still can't understand WHY ALL brands have the darn all black units, & the lettering/numbers in very small dark grey print! There should be a back-light choice or something to be able to read them. You have to have a flashlight & magnifying glass in order to do so! It has some nice features, but I don't think we accessing them very well. Yeah, when in doubt, read the instructions! We did get a good sale price on it. I guess it's OK, but not operating up to it's real potential & that could be a "screw loose in the operator" somewhere!!!

This receiver worked great. Paired up with my new TV perfectly. Had an older receiver that worked, but had to use a sound wire and 2 remotes to get it all turned on. Now 1 remote runs it all. For the price, this us exactly what we needed

I bought this along with a 65" Class Sony TV. Now I connect my game system, Blue Ray, CD Player, Cable Box, EVERYTHING to this receiver, which has one OUT cable going to the TV so all my sound is controlled by the Onkyo. Great value, and sounds awesome.

After 20 years with SR 502 I had to replace it with this one. This one puts out sound I’m use to however I had to return it after 2 weeks as it was overheating and kept powering on and off.Best Buy replaced it with no questions asked.New unit seems fine no overheating. I am still an ONK fan not ready to kick’s to the curb.
