Many appreciate the image quality and find the projector to be a good value for its price, especially considering its 4K capabilities. However, some customers feel the brightness could be improved. The quiet operation is also a frequently cited positive aspect.

I spent months reading reviews for different “faux-K” projectors and this one got great reviews. I came from a 720P projector so obviously this one looks much better; but I am not “wowed” by the image like I was expecting. I haven’t had much time on the projector with full 4K content so I may alter my review in the future but as of now, I just feel it is “meh”

      Dear Pkpk,

I would like to thank you for taking your time in writing this review. We certainly value your feedback. We have forwarded over your feedback to our product management team to improve our customer experience. Please keep in mind the UHD50 is designed to be a home theater projector, ideally you would want minimal ambient light to ensure the image doesn't appear as washed out.If you have any questions or concerns with Optoma / NuForce products please contact Optoma technical support at 888-289-6786 Option 2 Monday - Friday 6 AM - 5 PM PST for further assistance. I have installed many projectors. Of optoma UHD50, I love the quality of the image and how it looks. It is very refined and professional. Fantastic projector that was perfect for my narrow theatre room. My room is about 15 feet wide and I was able to put a 128” screen in. Incredible value and picture, this is my first try at using a projector so at first I had it projecting on the wall which looked ok Simply can't beat it for the price at this time. The only comparable projector right now with a similarly long lamp life is the BenQ, but that one doesn't have good lens adjustments. The projector definitely isn't tiny, but is among the smallest currently available. I'm definitely not a projector expert, but to me the image is beautiful from sitting distance. Sure you can get up all close to it and see some artifacts from the display technology, but like I said, sitting distance it looks like a nice 4K image

Great picture quality but seems like projector lamps burn out quickly had two replace them twice. Has great resolution, definition, and can be used anywhere in your home. I recommend it but definitely purchase extended warranty for future repairs

    First 4K Projector

I'm coming from a Ben-Q W1070 which worked great for a number of years for me, but started having issues. I had just put a new fan on it and then a month later the lamp blew. Rather than keep plugging money into the Ben-Q, it made more sense to me to step up to a 4k projector. I had already been buying 4k discs for future proofing. I was thrilled as soon as I popped in the first 4k disc with the UHD50. I could definitely see more detail and the colors definitely popped compared to 1080p. It's also a lot quieter than the Ben-Q was, too which is great because it's right above our seating position. One note, make sure that if you run an HDMI cable over 25 feet you may need to get an HDMI repeater to help transmit the signal. My picture kept cutting out. Once I put one of those on it works and looks great. I definitely would recommend this projector for anyone looking for a relativiely inexpensive jump to 4k for your home theater.

This Optoma 4k Projector is Legit!

I am amazed what Optoma has been able to put "under the hood" on this projector - all at the $1500 price point. I have not seen a projector that is under $4,000 that does what this does. The contrast is fantastic. The clarity is wonderful. I feel like my home theater has just had a massive upgrade with a modest investment. Well done and kudos to the people at Optoma!

My first projector. Got it paired with a 120" fixed gray screen. This thing looks amazing from all sides. Unlike 4k tv's, you can stand on the side of it against the wall, and get the same nice picture. The blacks are great and the sharpness is excellent. No more tv's for me.
