    Best Electric Toothbrush

I've been using an electric toothbrush at the advice of my dentist for many years. I started with a very inexpensive one and went to a Sonicare to an older Oral B then back to a Sonicare and now back to this Oral B and the truth is the iO Series 8 is by far the best I've ever used. The time tracking feature to make sure you get the full 2 minutes is amazing. The pressure sensitive light to make sure you aren't going too hard is such a nice addition. The bluetooth app connectivity helps keep you on track and improve your dental health through reminders and goal setting. The brush features many different modes depending on what your dentist advises you to work on and even the most intense modes don't cause any sort of pain or irritation. If you need help with your dental health, this is the product for you.

    Excellent Brush - horrible app

Previously I used another Oral-B electric toothbrush and it has worked very well. Upgrading to this toothbrush I wasn’t expecting it to be so much better. I liked the intense mode for cleaning my retainers. Unfortunately the app doesn’t know that is what I am doing so it rates it as a poor cleaning. The Daily Clean works best for me for everyday brushing. Every time I brush it shoots toothpaste all over the sink. My other electric toothbrushes have never done this and it happens every time. Features: 6 Smart Modes: Daily Clean, Whitening, Gum Care, Sensitive, Intense, and Super Sensitive Smart Pressure Sensor helps to keep you from brushing too hard 2-minute quadrant timer comes built-in that pulsates every 30 seconds 3 hour recharge 2 year warranty The app is the worst part. They want you to register for an account in the app. I tried several times and received an error message (Error Creating Account). I uninstalled / reinstalled and tried again – no luck. I even called Oral-B and they walked me through everything I already tried. It still didn’t work. I asked them to register an account for me and they cannot do that. So I cannot register and save my data. Others have been having issues too and Oral-B admitted it has been a problem and they are working on it. The app has charts for Week / Month / Year that show: Coverage - your % of tooth surface coverage Pressure Brush Time Gum Guard – for tracking bleeding gums Additional Routines (tongue, floss, rinse) There are also Session Scores, Challenges and other information. The app will remind you to change your brush head and can also replenish brush heads through Amazon. Pros: Great cleaning Various smart modes Quick charge Pretty color Cons: The Oral-B app Not designed for multi-person use No storage case on charger for toothbrush head More plastic in design than previous Oral-B

The Oral-B iO series 8 electric toothbrush has been very solid in my usage so far. Particularly with the gum care mode that I typically use, I get a very real sense that I've gotten my teeth and gums cleaned well when I follow the timer or app. The motor appears to have plenty of power but doesn't give off any unpleasant vibration when using. The circular head is small enough that I was generally able to reach everywhere comfortably. The battery life is very good, and the included charging stand is small and unobtrusive. If you use the app, it tracks you around your mouth to ensure you hit each area of your mouth properly. In general, it works pretty well, but I have had a couple of times where it just didn't track well, Usually as you brush the app shows your teeth in each zone change from blue to sparkling white as you spend sufficient time in each zone. However, on a couple of occasions it just never did change, and as I brushed more and more to see if would detect, I ended up quitting and got a "you brushed too long" message instead! Considering that one of the appeals of using an app alongside your brush is to keep a record, a marathon session that doesn't show you actually did anything throws off the accuracy of your experience. And to be honest, in the morning, I don't want to get my phone out to brush my teeth. If you don't use the app, however, you can still get feedback directly from the small display on the toothbrush itself. Overall, though, I think Oral-B has a winner here in the higher end category of electric toothbrushes. It does its main job--cleaning teeth--really well, and the difference coming to it from a manual toothbrush is quite significant. The app, despite my occasional issue, is pretty handy for ensuring you do a thorough job brushing. An overall nice package.

This my first "smart" toothbrush and I'm not disappointed. The io series offers multiple brush modes, wireless charging, and convenient brush routine tracking in the app. Setup was a breeze, download the app and follow the instructions and you're all set. I've been using this for 4 days now and I'm really happy with the results. There's a distinct difference in the feeling of cleanliness that I get after each use. It's far closer to that feeling you get when you come back from a professional cleaning than it is from a standard toothbrush. I also like the way the app guides you during brushing to make sure you hit each "quadrant" of your mouth equally. There's also an rgb ring that indicates when you're using too much pressure - which is also user configurable. The different brush modes are, on the surface at least, useful, but if I'm honest I don't know that I can tell the difference between them. I've been using the daily clean mode, but I've also tried whitening and intense. The intense setting feels like a more vigorous scrub, but the rest of the settings are indistinguishable to me. I like the color screen, it's bright, clear, and very easy to read. There are only two physical buttons your on/off switch and your mode select which scrolls through the different modes. It's worth noting that if you set up a custom schedule in the app it will lock you into the modes you've selected unless you select "end journey" in-app. This is kind of weird to me as sometimes i want to try one of the different modes, but then I have to end my 5 day routine early in order to do that so I've just kept using it as is. Kind of weird that it locks it that way but it also makes it a one touch use type of device. Charging is straightforward, just plop it on the base and you're good to go. I leave mine on the charger all the time because why not right? No idea what battery life is like in this device as a result, but I did notice that after brushing one night the toothbrush had dropped to 90%. That's after brushing for 3 minutes. Seems like it's draining fast, but again I only ever use it for about 3 minutes at a time. In the box you get 3 of the ultimate clean replacement heads, the wireless charger, the brush itself, and a decent travel case for toting everything about. Those brush heads are very nice, and I really like how the app tracks it's usage and notifies you when it's time to replace it. Lifetime is about 3 months if you're brushing for 6 minutes a day every day (morning and night). Not bad. The only criticism that I really have with this toothbrush is with the heads themselves. If you're not in the habit of using an electric toothbrush, like me, then this may come as a surprise. The brush heads have a couple of openings in the back of them which allows you to easily rinse it out after you've finished brushing. Of course this is also allows stuff to leak out when you're brushing, so if you're not paying special attention to the angle at which you're holding your brush you'll have to change whatever shirt your wearing. A minor annoyance, but still I'm annoyed. I rotate my toothbrush in all kinds of directions in order to hit every surface of every tooth, I always have, but doing that with this model pretty much guarantees that I get a face full of toothpast/saliva every morning. I can't be too mad though because from what I understand this is just standard on these types of toothbrushes. Oh and it's pricey. Overall it's a great product and I would recommend it to anyone who's serious about oral hygiene.

State of The Art way to brush your teeth -- Better

I thought it was going to be a toothbrush comparable or perhaps slightly improved over my prior half dozen electric toothbrushes -- I was wrong! Oral-B has raised the bar and brushing effectively will never be the same. The key to brushing effectively is not missing any spots and not applying too much or too little pressure as you brush. It has never been possible to precisely do this until Oral-B developed the iO series of brushes where a bluetooth connection and precise conveying of coordinates when the brush is in the mouth of the user are combined with an extraordinary software app you load on your smart phone. As you brush, the app displays an image and shows where you missed a spot, or applied the incorrect amount of pressure. Simply wonderful, effective, and valuable. Additionally, the brush has a small footprint stand that facilitates it always being charged with ease. Simply place the brush on the stand. The brush itself has multiple modes of speeds and angles that the user may choose from to be most comfortable. The actual brushes that are available offer choices to facilitate rigid, soft, ultra soft, etc. Bottomline: This toothbrush is a game changer and as the number sold rises and the price comes down, all electric toothbrushes will have to chase this technology to match it's brushing effectiveness. Kudos to Oral-B!!

That thing I never knew I needed

I preface this by saying I’ve used an electronic toothbrush from a competitor for years and always thought it was a great product. It wasn’t until I saw all the connected features (and persistent coaching) of this Oral B that I knew I wanted to make a switch. Connected devices are pretty pervasive in my home and I never thought I’d be looking at a connected toothbrush but here we are and it’s pretty cool! The app offers a lot of interesting features, the most useful of which is a “guide” that makes sure you spend enough time on each part of your mouth. Rather than vibrate in your hand to tell you to move on, you simply glance down at your phone and see the teeth in the graphic start to fill in. This is all great minus the fact that no matter what I do i can’t get one area of my mouth to ever show enough, because i am missing one extra tooth there due to a wisdom tooth damaging it. I’ve tried pretty much everything but the toothbrush protests that I must do more. Other than that one disappointment i see myself never pulling my old electric out again. The unit came with 3 replacement heads which will get you through the better part of a year of use and the various modes and pressure levels will leave your mouth feeling great.

Oral B Io is a winner

This electric toothbrush was recommended by my dentist. I enjoy the timer to let you know how long to brush each area of your mouth, the light system that tells you if you are brushing, too hard, too lightly or just right and the easy charging.

I really wanted to love this toothbrush, I really did. Upon opening the package I liked the color a lot. Sure purple isn’t a lot of guys’ favorite color, but it’s a dark metallic color and it was something different than the white everyone else seems to be doing. The brush has Bluetooth and an app and I was excited to see what cool things OralB had come up with. That’s where the disappointment started. First, the app doesn’t really have much to it. It seems to be mostly thrown in there so they can call it a smart toothbrush and try and get you on a subscription program, so you buy their replacement heads instead of a cheaper third party. Its most related feature to brushing feature is that it says it will monitor your brushing and help you improve either from direct suggestions or through gamification to try and encourage you to brush more. The problem is that it can’t tell what you are doing. It obviously tries to guess what you are brushing based on the angle of the brush, but I guess they didn’t test this well enough because it thinks I’m brushing the bottom right side of my mouth about 75% of the time even though I’ve brushed all my teeth fairly evenly. I’ve tried to hold the brush with different hands and at various angles to get the app to work right with moderate success, but even when I get it to work it can’t tell if you’re brushing the front, back or chewing surface of your teeth, making the app pretty useless in this regard even if it did get what part of my mouth I was brushing right. Also, after 2 min. of uniform brushing it says I did a good job on the brush itself, but the app says that the 75% of the time I spent on my lower right just barely got it clean. Apparently, the app thinks you should be spending around 12 min. brushing your teeth. If the Bluetooth and app was the reason you were going to select this brush over a different model, go with the other model. Now to the brush itself. I did like a few things about it. The base is cool. It’s a flat magnetic base that just feels high tech. Again, the brush itself looks really nice and different than ever other brush out there. There are multiple brushing modes which might be really useful, although I only use the basic setting. But if you have really sensitive teeth or other needs, you may be able to find a setting that works for you better than another brush with more limited options. It also has a very clear display panel that lets you know exactly what’s going on. You can tell how much battery life you have, can easily select your brushing mode and has a helpful timer so you can tell exactly how long you brushed. When you’re actually brushing it has a vibration that goes off every 30 sec. to help you get a benchmark and tell when you may need to move on to a different part of your mouth without having to pull the brush out of your mouth to see the time. However, if you are using the app at the same time it turns off this tactile notification and I guess they are assuming, you’re staring at your phone so you know when 30 sec. has passed. This about covers all the pros of the brushing experience. As for the cons, this brush head is probably the most annoying one I’ve ever used. First, the head is huge. Anyone who’s used an electric toothbrush knows you have to be more careful about keeping your mouth shut if you don’t want to have it through your spit and toothpaste all over your bathroom. Because of the size of the head it is much harder to brush without having your mouth open. My lips actually hurt trying to force them closed around the brush to keep from making a mess. Which leads to the next issue, they added this “feature” of holes in the brush head so you can rinse it out and clean inside the head better. This was a horrible idea. Instead what you have is a multi-hole straw sticking in your mouth while you brush. The result is that the entire time you are brushing, the brush head is siphoning all your spit and toothpaste out of your mouth, along the brush, down your arm and all over your sink and floor. You can’t seal the brush head and you are constantly trying to suck spit back into your mouth and are getting mouthfuls of air instead of a nice seal around the brush. After a week of use I was able to not make such a big mess, but it should never take that much effort to keep yourself from drooling all over the place. I’m hoping that a third party will make a cheaper replacement head that will fix some of these issues, or maybe OralB themselves will realize this mistake. This brush does have a few nice features but they should have cut back on a few of their “upgrades”. It will get your teeth cleaner than a manual brush so its not a 1-star, but in the end I think the useless app and brush head design flaws make this model a miss.

    Battery degrades

Was better than the sonicare but after replacing twice the battery didn't get past 60% and just shuts off with no warning. The battery degrades too fast and after 70% i have to guess when it will fail and show zero! Last things it went from 61% to zero after two 30 second cycles. If you have $250 to spend every year or so after the battery degrades then it is the best toothbrush! Started keeping track it got so bad and life is far too short to have to do that! 93 89 83 77 71 67 60 54 48 42 37 Dead 38 33 28 22 12 Dead about 25 seconds in 79 73 ? 60 ? Disgusting

Completely disgusting. The toothbrush would be great if not for the holes in the brush heads that collect spit etc while brushing then turn it into nasty goo. Even if you change the head regularly it gets into the toothbrush itself.
